  1. Was too young to witness Yorke at villa but it’s pretty incredible when you think about how he was signed by chance whilst Villa were doing a pre season tour….in a world with all this scouting data at an analyst’s fingertips it’s quite incredible to hark back to a time when being in the right place at the right time in front of the right person presented an incredible career opportunity

  2. Really looking forward to it aswell, will finish work a bit early and go straight from there to b6 then chill in the midlands for the weekend. I think that Ajax and Lille were the best teams and we played them already so I’m hoping we can rack up a bit of a buffer in the first leg making it a bit easier for us fans a week later!

  3. This evening game has the potential to really cement us into that champions league spot and show everyone how far we have come in the almost 10 years to the day since we were stinking out the league season after season and when Lampard broke tambling’s scoring record at VP not long after we had embarrassingly lost to them by a huge amount the previous fixture! Come on Villa let’s do this!!

  4. An extremely knowledgeable man, I’ve seen him on Bloomberg a few times and you can see how he came to run money and build up fortress, a very analytical and strategic mind. As mentioned upthread, his long term approach/patient capital will Reap rewards in multiple industries, notably Aston Villa!

cheers for this . I'll defo get down there for our next televised game

Lots of midlands accents and plenty of Villa who have been down here a while too! Good choice of booze and decent prices too, under £6 for a lot of them, pretty strong too!

  6. Went to feed the yak tonight in south London, absolutely brilliant atmosphere. Only way I could catch the game was if I went from my workplace in Surrey to London Waterloo and then to elephant and castle and the short walk to the venue. Really glad I went as met some top people and the atmosphere was as loud as anything I’ve seen recently at VP tbh! Will be sure to get back there for any away games I can’t get tickets for

Not a player but Lambert is on Under the Cosh this week, I wonder will he say much about his Villa times

I remember near the end of his time here, you could see on his face how much pressure he was under and he had gained a lot of weight. Saw him talking on tv a few weeks back and he looks a million miles healthier now 9 years on which sounds crazy but it must be stressful struggling at a huge club with the expectations it entails
