Yeah I was thinking of him as well (used to always get our programs from him) - and also thought of the one real injustice of Ellis's reign - Tony Barton. I really hope that at the least when this is all finally resolved some sort of memorial to him can be established. If ever there was a need to show our thanks to a man at Villa, it isn't Mr Aston Villa Ellis, but Mr Aston Villa Tony Barton. Jas - I know mate that somewhere all the great holte enders will be looking down and enjoying this day as well!

My partners Father is one of those - we paid for a paver and everytime we go to VP we visit it and take yet another picture of it. We both wish he was still here to see the changes going on today.

I'm a big fan of JF, but he had no place at today's press conference and it was right that he was refused entry. If JF was allowed in, I should be allowed in. It won't be a popular view, but JF is more effective when he's not trying things like that. I agree. JF is a very articulate man who doesn't need to pull 'stunts' in order to get his opinion across. No offence intended...... And one of the few times I can agree that JF shouldn't be allowed in there when it is a press conference. I have the greatest respect for all he has done, and is still doing but on this occasion I do believe it was a bad call on his part.

I don't know if anyone has seen Ellis in the pitch side interview on the BBC (http://tinyurl.com/n6qgm link) - ignoring most of the rubbish from Ellis - the very last question is: Reporter: "Will this be the last major signing as Chairman of Aston Villa?" Ellis: "I don't know......But I'd hope so!" Okay so Ellis has strung us along before but I was surprised he said that. Usually I would have expected him to either dodge the question or go on about how he can still play tennis with the young 'uns!

A couple of weeks ago I would have completely agreed with you. But now.... I think its gone too far and I don't think even Ellis would dare not sell now. Some pretty heavy players are now in the frame with as much gile and craftiness and more than anything Ellis could muster. I accept it might not happen, but *I* believe its now in our favour.

Can we trust him? I reckon so. I can't remember an occasion where he has said something without some substances behind it. Of course, others might have done - I can only say I've never known him say something like that without a good reason.

But the sad fact is that HE IS!!! :shock: How do we know this? I really don't think it will be more than months before Ellis is out and a new owner (I think its between Lerner and Still) is in control. Why shouldn't it be any more unlikely now with so much interest in the club from at least 2 very likely heavy players in Lerner and Still? I think that Ellis is on numbered days now.

It is known from here that his jet arrived at Luton this morning. So the assumption is that Lerner or his close associates are back in the UK.

No they were Leaner's chaps We don't know that for sure..... or do you know something else? We don't know for certain your right Denis_B - all we could do was guess and some reckon they are Lerner's lot having another look about. Of course, without a declaration of interest from a party, we can't know for certain.

There was very little trading the other day as well - only about 3 and all happened late on in the day. It might just be there isn't going to be any movement - but then again, it could be a sign of something more happening.

Maybe not, but he might have assurances in place to perhaps bring in on loan until January allowing time for the takeover to be sorted out, but also getting the squad strengthened. Obviously we won't know unless we get something happening before the transfer window closes or that question is answered if MON does come in tomorrow as it appears he will.

The problem is until there is any firm confirmation, which if there is any bid even to at the contemplation stage by AV we aren't going to get because of the laws governing takeovers. We all know something is going on and meetings are taking place. We can all speculate who the meetings are between and what is happening. But speculation is the best we can hope for. Even those with sources (the media) are likely to be on very slim pickings at the moment because the rules are so strict and are using their own take on a situation when reporting it much like we are here. Some will be closer and more accurate in the speculation, many of us will be way off the mark. So we are in limbo - and on the boards desperate for news and discussion on all of this (well most of us are anyway). :winkold:

I agree, the current quiet is really very, very exciting Absolutely - If this is a direct result of the legal procedures AV have to take then (As I suspect it is) it means at least some bids are being given serious thought if nothing else. We can only keep repeating that the takeover rules are really strict - in that no information can be released once a bid is offered and/or contemplated it is secret and only those on a strictly need to know basis are allowed to be given the details. They even have strict guidelines in place for any information that must be printed! So from a mass of information, the two consortiums who we know are well into the process (Still and Lerner) are also the two who we haven't heard a thing from! It could also explain these 3 mysterious Americans being shown around the other day - If there is a bid from Lerner being contemplated, AV have to keep it secret - so by denying they are to do with Lerner, they can achieve this. Of course what it doesn't stop is speculation that they are part of Lerner's group - and how accurate that is we will have to wait and see.

With the Padfield interview he did say that he had been in contact with Rothschilds - it was AV or Ellis who they hadn't been in contact with and he was surprised by that.

Well the Sun don't really tell us anything we don't already know and are simply using the 5live interview with the Padfield comments.

I am not to sure though Padfield would have broken the rules ...... yet. My understanding is this that information has to be secret only once a bid has been made or is being contemplated. AV06 hasn't even approaced AV with a bid - so it isn't even being contemplated by Villa. That means at this stage, I would imagine they can talk about it if they wish.

I couldn't agree more - I can't imagine Still coming into this without some really serious money behind him. However, we don't know how much would be loans and how much investment by people. I would hope mostly the latter - but until the full details of any bid are announced we won't know and its merely guesswork and speculation on our part.

Nope I think its partly the board. My message has posted but in my other window where I originally wrote it, I am being told it is still posting! Sometimes happens especially when there have been problems with the board today (I assume the boards hosted on a shared server)...... so can cause these delays and you hit post again - whammy double post occurs!
