  1. At a guess I have seen Villa around 250 times since supporting them from 7 years old back in 1982 when I think we beat Southampton 2-1, Keegan scoring their goal.

    Loved the Villa ever since.

  2. What you have to understand is Villa supporters have had more false dawns than any other club I can think of - the likes of Atkinson, Gregory, Little, O'Neil all built teams that put villa on the edge of becoming great again - then we just never move and the whole thing falls apart. We are like a yo-yo club that doesn't get relegated.

Having got fairly close with O'Neil and his approach - it has made many distraught to see this approach abandoned - and a low budget team assembled.

My own take is that mess rs Houllier and Mcleish never really had a strategy - 2 those 2 years were wasted - our best players sold - and what budget we had with the exception of Darren Bent was largely squandered.

Now we have a new manager - and he's a complete rebel when it comes to building a team as per the rule book - Hunger and youth it seems hold much more sway then premiership experience. Of course youthful players cost less to buy and pay - this leads some supporters with some justification - to feel short changed - we are a big club - and not unreasonably they want to see big names. Sensibly can we get a level of performance from player costing £2.5m and earning £20k per week - when a fee of £8m and £50k a week is the norm ?

My own opinion is that the most important person at the club is the manager - and currently I beleive we have a very good manager - who can defy the super finances of so many clubs - lets hope so. However - people care, people worry and have different views about how to make us successful - when things don't go right on the field they are so much quicker to despair......

Lets just hope performances and results swing upwards over the coming week.......I am sure they will

I loved reading this, my only fault is who you said is the most important is wrong, imo. Randy Lerner is the most important person, he says how much we have to spend and basically buy. Obviously second is the Manager, imo.

We do have a good Manager, but there is a lot of pressure on him right now, if we lose v Newc tomorrow I can only imagine the pressure on these youngster will be immense...not good management nor good ownership.

Let's hope we stuff the black and white tomorrow and get moving as the great club we are.

    Please.

(That please is in act of desperation by the way!)

    UTV!

  3. At least you have plenty of teams to choose from if you still fancy supporting a team...

Man Utd, Chelsea, Man City maybe Arsenal will be ok for you.

Supporting a football club is not always about winning, it never is never will be.

I love Aston Villa and will always support them regardless.

  4. The defence just needs to work harder,

Defence is the easiest part of the team (tell your budding football son's this (if they don't wish to be a goalie!) midfield and attackers/wingers have the hardest job in football, hence the reason why they tend to get paid more. A great defender MAY match their wage and sometimes transfer fee.

I guess what I am saying is if Villa's defence was to work twice as hard then maybe results will come more often if we play attacking football.

Also it's not about seek and destroy...

  5. Just because Liverpool spent £37M (?) on Carroll doesn't mean he is worth anywhere near that! If we signed him for £5M i'd be happy, below that he's a bargain, above £10M becomes silly money.

Him and Bent together? Yeah, maybe! Just maybe...

  6. Fair play to the tax dodgers, thieves and crooks amongst them

small point but if they are legally avoiding ways of pay tax , then how do they become crooks and thieves ?

As it was in the news today it reminded me , but whenI had my new kitchen fitted the other year I paid the Plasterer , electrician and the fitter in cash ... I suspect that not one of them declared that income .. so that IS theft ... what these other people are doing doesn't appear to be breaking any current laws , other than maybe a moral one

Ok my electricians couple of hundred quid isn't in the same league as few trillion but I bet when he went down the pub that night and told all his mates that he had a result with a cash in hand job I bet they all said "Nice one mate" rather than pointing out the laws that he had broken and going into outrage mode on the interweb

I'm guessing he used that money to buy a few beers for himself after a hard days work, then maybe the next day a nice pram for his unborn daughter/son (it is extra money after all).

He certainly didn't buy a yacht or a super sports car, or a Villa in Spain where he will only visit once every year...when he is bored.

    At a guess anyway!

  7. Apple Sue Samsung over phone technology just because they can...the main reason for suing Samsung is to delay their products so Apple can sell more whilst it takes about 3 Months for the judge to tell Apple they are idiots for suing Samsung over such trivial matters.
