I just calculated the net spend of loaning Januzaj off Twitter with Cleverley in the squad............

Great day Sunday.Got up after finishing nightshift and put the game on to find we were causing the upset of the round by actually scoring. And what a goal. Then my son asks whats going on with Delph, something about a new deal.Unbelievable Jeff.I'm still in good form and I'm a moody so and so.
Echo this all the way
Id forgotten what enjoying being a villa fan was all about a little bit. This week I am loving the smiles on villa fans faces when i say "Gil" or "Delph"

Its also worth noting he didnt really get the chance to get eased back from his injury, just thrown in at the deep end. Maybe I am just finding excuses for the lad but I suppose I'll cut this bloke more slack than the others. If Kozac was about Id give him a run, fair enough, but as others have said I dont much rate the choices we have after him tbh.
I totally agree he looks out of sorts

not knocking the criticism of his performances sbs, just caught up with the weekends posts in this thread and there were a few calling for him to be dropped, even sold etc.
Just my way of saying i think thats insane with an obviously misplaced attempt at humour
Confidence in yourself after a bad injury is a weird thing. affects some and not others

I suppose i was one of the few people on here that thought we might regret not signing him if Delph left. Yesterdays announcement sort of instantly changed my mind on that stance
Still wouldnt mind him on a free if he actually wanted to be here.

nice to see some sanity back in here by monday morning
I wouldnt underestimate the injury guys. hes been back playing about 10 weeks hasnt he?
and his first touch has ALWAYS needed to improve. We're probably noticing it more as we're not pumping it up to him to win in the air most of the time.

At the end of the day, a squad which includea Guzan, Cissokho, Hutton, Okore, Vlaar, Delph, Westwood, Sanchez, Cleverley, N'Zogbia, Agbonlahor and Benteke should not be struggling. Whether he has spent 100m, 50m or 10m, the squad we have is not one which should be worrying about relegation!
Really?, I mean honestly?
What is more probable?
A: that all those individual players are all individually and collectively underperforming for various reasons week after week because of external influences (including the management)?
Or
B: that one persons opinion on the relative ability of all these players is a little overrated?
I personally think that that list of players looks like a recipe for a relegation battle. With the exception of Hutton Cissoko and Cleverley who played for better clubs before us and Gabby who finished 5/6 a couple of times all these players have ever done in the Premier League is basically fight off relegation. Add the rest of the squad to the list and it doesnt improve any Richardson, Weimann, Lowton, Herd, Clarke, Baker, Bacuna, Thats a list of players whose Premier league careers have been spent fighting off relegation.
Who do we have in our squad that you cant really say that of? Given usually played for teams that finished higher than this and he's 38 and Joe Cole. And he's 33. And crocked.
Its all an opinion of course and I dont want to come across all ranty but seriously why do people think we're better than we constantly show we are?

maybe the manager feels he needs 100 games in 'mans football' ..........

now then, Alex Fergusons old AM couldnt be a bad thing for us could it?
As soon as I read that Phelan has left Norwich I felt compelled to come here and type something along the lines of this guy Paul, this guy

from the U21s I think Seigrist, Watkins, Drennan, Burke, Kinsella and Cowans

Best forward option we have by a long long way. Still needs to improve his first touch and positioning but I thought we all sort of knew that anyway. On top of that Its about 10 weeks hes been back from a long injury lay off which could be why he still looks a bit raw. Even without any support from his midfield hes managed to grab a couple of goals in that time. We all know what hes capable of. He, more than any other player, has kept us up over the last 2 years. Calls for him to be dropped are imo the most ridiculous thing I have read on here in a long time.

i understand why people wanna vent some anger and frustartion. Matt Kendrick included. Chanting you dont know what youre doing at the manager after XXX home games and no goal is exactly what everyone has the right to do.
Believe me Lambert got that. he heard it. whatever he's legally and professionally restrained to saying in any media interview he understands our feelings towards the present status quo

personally i accept his limitations. He is undoubtedly our best midfielder at present. His control and movement on the ball is exemplary. His shooting is generally woeful. And while he can turn over possession ok, all to often after beating one or even two players his final ball is found wanting. Not enough through balls, crosses, goals or assists to be a villa great for me but a good player. Classy at times and we'll be worse off without him for sure.
I have doubts on him being our best midfielder at present.
Knew I should have put an IMO in there

Yep, you might as well appoint a scout as manager if that's your recipe for success. Buy players and hope it works.
You might have just hit the nail on the head there in summng up Lamberts reign. And/Or any other managers who prefer to be less hands on in training

Brett Holman was better
thanks for that. Winter can be so depressing and I needed a laugh

are we allowed fractions? I mean can he wear the number 1/6th on his back?
-
I take it all back. We have actually signed someone and I am a little bit excited about it.
-
I really hope Benteke buries one past mignolet in the first 5 mins
-
wow. we actually signed him
Welcome to B6 Carles. We've only had Bannan and Tonev to compare you to in the last few years so im sure you'll do fine -
but i honestly think those of us that are still cutting lambert enough slack to stay in the job are just a little bit more realistic about AVFC
Rubbish.
No that really is what I think

i can see you all think we're mad and I can see why you'd think that but i honestly think those of us that are still cutting lambert enough slack to stay in the job are just a little bit more realistic about AVFC, The Premier League, Lerner, Lerners divorce, The fact that we're up for sale and the management of the club throughout the last 7/8 years. Its pretty obviously boring after 5 years of saying the same thing but it doesnt mean the problems have gone away.
Its easy to hate the guy. All these unwanted records and all that. It seems logical when youve grown up watching managers 'get sacked for less' all your life. It becomes more personal when you sit through the crap that was served up against Leicester. But seriously if you aint used to it by now guys......
Villa lose to bottom of the table team shocker!! last chance we had a sniff at the title we blew it by losing away to Oldham ffs. Its what we do
pessimism is sort of ingrained in us from an early age.
No one can deny we need to score goals - not even Lambert. but I think my viewpoint stems from the fact that pre season I expected us to be in that group of 'any 3 from 7' to go down and thats exactly where we are. The ONLY thing that I think will help us climb out of that group of teams and start competing with the likes of Everton, Stoke, Southampton, W.Ham, Swansea again is better players than we currently have.
we're a good RB, LB, CM, 4x wingers, 2x ACM and a Striker away from having a really competative squad in my eyes. at our current rate of spending its gonna be a few years yet until we can look at that trip to Stoke without feeling a bit like the underdogs.
Do I like that? Is that good enough for the pedestal I put my Villa on in my heart? - Of course not.
Is me having a tantrum gonna change anything other than possibly forcing the hand of a disinterested owner into making a decision he really doesnt want to on something he has a proven track record of ineptitude? spending yet more money on managers when Its so glaringly obvious we need to invest in better players?
Seriously guys be careful what you wish for, coz for every Pulis there are a fair few Shearers, Dowies and Magaths.
Simple as that for me! UTV and we really do go again.

The 8m (if that's what has been agreed) fee applies to the player with 11/12 months left on his contract. Whether people feel we could have got around 8m for Delph in the summer with 11/12 months left on his contract is something we can all disagree on. But you cant compare the Delph situation now with the Cleverley one then. As far as I know through the media there are options over this loan where Utd could take him back or we could complete a full transfer in January. Not sure if legally we or Utd are really allowed to prevent the 3rd option which is Cleverley runs down his contract, avoids signing for us and sees where the free transfer market takes him in the summer. But the 8m fee has nothing to do with there being 6 months left on his contract.

Im really not that fussed about how he plays for anyone else.
Kept us up when we bought him. The times he played under Lambert he was pretty poor imo. I can understand why he was stripped of the captaincy and dropped after Soton away in Lamberts first season.
