  1.

we can only have 2 premier league loans...

    And we only have 1

is Holte & Bertrand not 2?

Holt is from Wigan, who are in the Championship. We definately can take another on loan, not that I expect that to happen. It'll be Hoolahan at the last second (once Norwich buy a replacement)

  2. I think Chelsea will line up a move for Shaw either in January, or in the summer. We have 4 months to convince Bertrand Villa is a good place for him to develop. Im happy with this signing. Just an AM now (even if it is Hoolahan) and I, for one, will be relatively happy.

  3. Didn't Lerner vote for FFP??

What a tool (as the other chairman were too). He now has a declining asset that nobody in their right mind would want to buy as you cannot invest to get back up to the top. I would say it serves him right but some day he'll be gone whilst we are all left to pick up the pieces

IIRC Villa, WBA and another team actually voted against it.

    Fulham was the other team.

  4. Genuine question, what score would you give, on a scale of 0-10 of satisfaction if our January business were:-

    Holt - 6 month loan

    Hoolahan - 2.5yr contract £1.5M
Danny Rose- 3.5 yr contract £3.5M

    Bennett OUT - Loan

With the promise of more activity in the summer for our big signing.

Do you think that would keep us up this year? Plug the gaps? Add experienced bodies in addition to a better, trainable, LB.

i'm intrigued to hear your opinions.

EDIT:- Just realised Naughton is RB not a LB. Used Danny Rose instead as a representative sort of LB i think PL is after.

  5. Btw, that's not to say I don't think he will do a good job there, he will keep them up (new manager bounce) before they sack him him 12 months in search of another out of work freebie.

    Couldn't agree more

Cant help but get the feeling they were clearly snubbed by a fair few managers to end up with this guy after so long.

  6.

The fact that people are moaning about this hypothetical bid is actually hilarious.

    For 750k....I can't see a single negative.

    A) He arrives for 750k-1M, he instantly goes into the first team, our form improves as a result = success

    B) He arrives for 750k-1M, he becomes a squad player who starts against certain opponents and offers us something different off the bench now and then = success

    C) He arrives for 750k-1M, he doesn't have an enormous influence on the pitch, but has some effect off it = partial success

    D) He arrives for 750k-1M, he looks useless, he doesn't have an effect off the pitch = Ah well it was only 750k-1M anyway! Worth a punt! Sell him on for 500k-750k in 12 months time.

Jesus wept. We've had plenty of experienced players in their 30s who have come in to do a fantastic job, Berger, Ronny Johnson to name a couple. Cost hardly anything, filled a gap.

And the fact that some people are MOANING about us making a mid makes me realise, sincerely, that some of you are unpleasable, Utterly thankless task running this club. I thought my grandad was bad.

    I think most were saying

    E) We bid 750k, a derisory offer, Norwich refuse to go any further with negotiations and we miss out on him because our offer was taking the p***. If we could get him for that amount, brilliant. It would be a steal.

I think £1.5 million is closer to getting him. If that's the real bid and he has put in a transfer request we might be in luck.

How do you know 750k (if true) is derisory? When you play FM, do you make an educated judgement on a players worth, bid that, or do you do what 99.9999% of other humans do in that instance, bid less than that just in case they accept. Norwich will negotiate our bid anyway, might as well start low. For this sort of player, most teams have an option, even the crap teams, so I can't see there being lots of competition.

The negative being we cant afford another player whos gonna do f**** all what ever the cost, we have nearly a full team already!

We have no-one in that no. 10 role, our bench looks shockingly short of game changers at times. At least this is someone who could come on to actually affect a game.

I remember game in the early MON days...it was Watford, £5 in. We were 0-0 I think against a stubborn Watford team. He stuck on Patrick Berger for Angel on 72 mins, much to the disgust of the crowd (me included in fairness). Within 5 minutes we were looking more effective at breaking them down, we won the game 2-0. I see Hoolalan being the equivalent sort of player. He won't play away against the sky 4 where we rely on pacey counter attacking. He'll be used at home, as an option, against your Crystal Palaces, Stokes, Albions..

  9. Whose in @ WBA then ?  WM say an announcement tonight or tomorrow - Mendlibar + Mackay favourites - but Stuart Pearces odds tumbling by the minute......interesting...

That guy who always get linked to us..Chico Flores? Or Jol are my two bets.

Jol - as they might think he'll be a Hodgson-like experienced manager, or Chico Flores as they'll think he's like the Southampton guy. Mendilbar has a terrible record tbh, Mackay isn't wanted and is still owed a payoff and Pearce...I just can't see it.

Whoever it is, I guarantee you will be sacked within 2 seasons anyway. Those lot are quite deluded after hitting their glass ceiling, and I can't see any manger getting them to 8th again, unless they stumble across another Lukaku-like freak loan again.

  10. Finally got into this.

For the first time ever, having a go with Villa, normally start much lower.

Beat Barcelona 5-3 in preseason, then beat Baggies 2-0 first game. Been up and down since.

How do you get your team used to a formation. I've got 3 different ones I go between in the tactics screen but they are all still fairly low on that blue bar. I've got 'Team Cohesion' set as my main training focus on high but not having any affect. Anything I can do to rectify this?

Been going with a 5-2-1-2 with wing backs at home and 4-5-1 away, but seem to be struggling no matter what I try recently.

Change your training focus to 'tactics'...i normally start the season slow until this bar hits max, then switch to team cohesion, then the form lifts.

  11. Worst owner in the league IMO. Would even rather have Vincent Tam in charge. Even he could persuade a manager with experience only in Norway to take the job.

It was probably the £2M/year + £2M bonus as well as better timing which convinced him it was worth the move. If all things were equal...Villa + Lerner outcompetes Cardiff + Tan every time.

  12. Btw, managers quotes taken out of context. anyone who thinks he wouldn't want to lead Villa to FA cup is off their heads. But he doesn't want a Wigan - win it and go down! That's the point he was making - premier league survival main priority right now.

I think most sane Villa fans know this, and rolled their eyes as soon as they read such. Guess with the midlands teams in general being a bit....beige, the local papers don't have much else to sensationalise.

They can't wait to stick the boot in at any given moment, I get the impression Lambert isn't appreciated in the media circles due to his demeanour, and the fact he isn't their 'mate' McLeish or O'Neill.

I hate the way this will be a stick to beat Lambert with in the foreseeable future should we not put together a good run. If we drop down the league, they'll all hark back to the false FA cup comments. Tosspots.

  13. Can someone clear up,

I listened to the 2nd half on the radio (having watched the 1st half on a stream) and it sounded like we missed a few chances at the end.

Watched MOTD and besides Albrighton's relatively long range effort and Benteke's goaline-cleared chance I saw no evidence of the "sitters" Radio WM banged on about.

Were the radio commentators over exaggerating? Or did MOTD just not bother to show such presumably key highlights? It sounded like Albrighton should have been slated for his misser according to the radio :S but it didn't seem that bad on MOTD...hardly a 'sitter'. Loved the MOTD "Villa got lucky with the offside" comment, literally minutes after Suarez's equivalent was declared as a "good decision".

    Anyway...my match rating and review...rating: excitement = 8, tactics = 7, opposition = 4,relief 10^9999, MOTM Gabby.

  14. above post.

wow, how different to mine...in my 3rd season with Villa, Jordan Graham and Weimann have both helped propel me to my first premiership win!

Both playing on the wings in a 4-2-2-2 kind of formation.

For those interested, my standard team in season 3 is:-

    .........................Mitrovic...................

    Grealish..........Januzaj (L)...........Graham

    .............Medel........Romeiu..............

    Luna..... Okore.....Baker.......Corchia

    .....................Guzan..........................

Subs:- Vlaar, Emerson (Santos Wonderkid)/Lowton, Fellani (Loan), Harkes (Regen ex-Boca Youth Wonderkid), Tomas Martinez, Weimann, Agbonlahor/Kozak.

Season 1:- 13th + Early exits from cups

Season 2:- 8th + Relatively early exits from cups

Season 3:- 1st, CC Final and FAC Semi.

Ove 3 seasons I've spent about £20M, reclaimed about £70M in transfers.

The 50% (Rising to 65%) of available funds from sales is a bit delibitating

I got lucky shipping the likes of Given, Hutton, Bent, Ireland for small fees to get rid of wages and N'Zog and Delph have been shot of finally in S3.

Bosmans and Loans have massively helped...I signed Wijnaldum for £0 and sold for £7.5M. Plenty of young squad fillers around which you can sell on for profit. Helenius went for 10M ish, Lowton is attracting offers of 8M now, Sylla went for 3.5M to Lyon, Okore is wanted by Real/Barca now, Benteke wasn't missed, Luna was POTS in S2, Kozak is a reliable backup. Mourinho, Pulis and Clarke are my enemies!

As a 25y.o FM addict since CM2 (Red cd with commentary and Steve Bull/Cantona playing)...FM14 my favourite in a long, long time.

  15. If you notice though. No individual photo for him. Absolutely gutted if true, and confirmation of a crap weekend.

(p.s. i'm not in the panic camp, I'm more than happy with the preceding 3 games and am encouraged by our potential goal threat)

  17. Villa Talk Relationship advice thread, where everyone is a relationship expert.

    ;)

On a serious note though when you like a girl and she does not feel the same, it does hurt alot and consume your thoughts for every waking moment, but as others have said time is a good healer. You may end up finding someone better in the future and then you look back and think, thank god she wasn't interested. Thats what happened to me anyway.

The way I see it, it's a thread for people who have been there and done it to provide their own wisdom to people currently having a crap time of it and who will in the future probably pass on such guidance as well as their their own for future losers :P

It's actually probably better than receiving advice from a close friend or family, as you lot can be much more objective and not feel the need to soften your opinions which family tend to do so as to avoid hurting feelings...also I know that the experiences of these guys is real so they wont just be providing an ideolised version of what someone should do.

Oh, and in relation to the last part, I really hope you are right..my first goal was to start to look for the chinks in her..to look for the facets I'd struggle with anyway. Thanks again.

  18. Can I just add that my comments are from experience.

I've been there. Deep in the friendzone. I even got the girl for a while then lost her and went BACK to the friend zone.

Looking back, I don't know what I was thinking and I'd love to go back in time and tell her to shove it when I had the chance.

much appreciated mate. Usually people who end up in the friend zone don't have it rammed down their throat every day so it's easier, so I'd deluded myself that there was probably another way to deal with it. Plus it had a major dent to my confidence/self respect....luckily just seeing it happens to other decent/non-loser people in a similar way has helped immensely.

I've also tried to use the kick in the balls as a catalyst to get into the gym and improve myself...not to win her back at all, but to help improve my ego I guess. Oh and I'll use every single lesson learned to land myself a stunner :)
