  1. I don't really care who wins, as long as it isn't Germany.........I think if they win then when we look back on the 2014 World Cup in 20-30 years time it will be remembered for a very controlled, sterile and solid Germany win, rather than the following-

Netherlands winning their first ever World Cup, destroying the current holders 5-1 in their first game, crazy penalty shoot-out keepers, and Villa having a World Cup winning captain in their ranks.

    OR

Argentina winning the World Cup on their arch-enemies soil, with Lionel Messi proving once and for all he is the greatest player of all time (in my opinion) by dragging a weak Argentine team through the competition.

    OR

Brazil winning their own World Cup, after losing their star man with a broken back in the quarter final, and battling through despite fielding arguably their weakest team in World Cup history

It might just be me, but I like a bit of 'romance' with my World Cup and it has definitely delivered so far, and any of the above happening will add to it. Germany winning it would take a lot of the romance out of the whole tournament, and make it less memorable as time goes on.

I want the Argentina scenario so we can tell kids, grandkids we watched the best player EVER lift the World Cup.

  2. What car is it again? What model and engine exactly?

    It's Astra CDTI 1.9

the 1.9cdti engine is notorious for power issues. Its actually a Fiat engine but used in Vauxhall, Saab, Alfa and of course Vauxhall.

Common problems, in order of likelhood... 1) EGR block/stuck (easy bolt on / off part, cost about £120 from dealer). 2) Boost sensor clogged with carbon (really easy to remove and clean if you google it), vacuum pipes split (check all the rubber pipes under the engine bay, they are prone to splitting and leaking air), full DPF (a pain if this is the problem, dealer can replace at 000's or you can get it removed by a third part company), turbo on it s last legs (bad news)...

I'd actually bet money, if you have not fault code it is probably 3) (split hose). If you start the car have and good look at all the rubber pipes. Ask someone to rev it and see if you can hear any air escaping.

Vac pipes probably is something they would have to have disconnected during dropping the gearbox. If there's a definite (not just 'this feels a bit different) noticeable power difference before and after, then I'd agree a split hose or something vac related is the cause. They can't claim they did nothing to any of that stuff as (I don't think) the CDTi with a DMF can have the DMF changed without splitting the engine and box, which is a fairly intrusive job (hence the labour cost).
The engine maintenance light came on and I've got it booked at the same

garage that changed DMF and clutch to look at it tomorrow. It's clearly been caused by something they done but there is just no way I can prove it.

You should invest in 2 things, 1) a Bluetooth OBD connector (less than £10) and 2) Torque Pro app (about £3).

Now whenever your car gets a fault you can scan the ecu for codes yourself and diagnose faults yourself saving a fortune.

Really? Thanks for that. First time ever seen engine light come on.

  4. It's just a confirmation nothing is imminent. Nothing will happen before the season starts. Unfortunately he doesn't say that he intends to give Lambert funds to survive next season. Had he said that, we'd all be happy.

Well he was never going to say that, no owner would tell you what funds the manager was going to have.

IMHO he's basically said that his initial timeframe for selling up when all things Villa would be put on hold (other than a few minor or pressing matters) has passed and that now he is going to get back to ensuring the club is run in the normal way and not on hold pending a sale. Had he sold then all of those decisions would have been for the new buyer but as he hasn't he now has to sanction stuff again or confirm the club's available resources and let the management team do their work.

To me it lends weight to nothgin being close as if it were i wonder whether he would hold on a bit longer with the current situation.

I expect (or hope) two or three signings to come in but as always, nothing that would set hearts racing. I think we'll be looking abroad again in the hope of finding a real pearl.

    That's my guess

I hope he realises that if we go down then selling will be harder than it is now..................on the other hand he has`nt realised that if we were in the top 6 selling would not be a problem..............Back to square 1.

Selling for the price he wants will be impossible. But I actually think there would be more potential buyers if we went down but Lerner would have to take a massive loss.

  5. This is what I don't understand. We have managed top 6 finishes in the past without a Billionaire owner. I know football has changed but does the revenue a club like Villa generate only allow for a relegation battle year after year?

  6. Well no, it's not, is it? It's your opinion.

You're right! It's my opinion that, if Lerner had bought from a previous owner who was actually liked instead of hated, and we'd done what we've done under Lerner's reign, he would have faced large protests to try to force him out.
So it's not fact and is purely a hypothetical musing then?
You don't think it's played any part in the patience fans have had with him?
I do Jonah. I think that he's been very lucky in respect of the fans not openly showing their displeasure towards him.

I also think that his timing is right for the sale. Because, I believe the fans would have turned on him this next season, if it turns out to be another struggle and he hadn't already made known his intentions to sell up.

The thing is Doug was at every game so the fans protesting would have impacted him. Lerner wouldn't have cared or probably wouldn't have even known.

  7. I was looking at the line ups for the Netherlands v Argentina match in world cup 98. There is simply no comparison between the two Dutch sides. The 98 team was so much better in every area. If you had to do a best XI of the 2 teams it would be 9 - 2 to the 98 side. I guess it shows what a great job Van Gaal has done.

Good point. You could argue Messi aside the Argentina team was a lot stronger too. They had that Quarter final in the bag until Ortega lost his head.

  8. I think Messi and Neymar will really thrive with Suarez in the team. Aside from his goal scoring his intelligent movement off the ball is a nightmare for defenders. This should free up a lot of space for others. Barca sign a few defenders and they will take some stopping next season.

  9. It's just a confirmation nothing is imminent. Nothing will happen before the season starts. Unfortunately he doesn't say that he intends to give Lambert funds to survive next season. Had he said that, we'd all be happy.

I'll never be happy while Lerner is still in charge.

  10. He probably has lost money but it almost seems that we talk about him funding everything. Surely Aston Villa football club as an ever present Premier League team is capable of generating revenue.

How did we cope all those years without Lerner?

  11. Not the statement I wanted to hear but at least he has communicated to the fans that he is still focused on Villa. What that actually means only time will tell but I honestly didn't think we would hear from him again until a sale was done.

Hopefully the club can some how convince Delph and in particular Vlaar to sign new contracts.

  12. Last few weekends keep getting upset over my ex.

Know I should think about the future and not the past but it's just so hard... Sigh

It is the worst feeling ever and like things will get never better but they do. It just takes time. Best advice I can give is try and keep as busy as possible and your mind on something else. I know easier said than done.

  13. I've spent stupid money on my mrs over the years, she's had four cars(we've only been together 5 years) I've paid some debt off for her. I remember once we had a big fall out which resulted in her smashing up my cds, anyway I'm off to cyprus she says. I was like wtf, anyway she arranged to go and work in cyprus for 6 month, up until she was going we made up and it was decided I should go with her. I had no choice but to say yes because it was over if I did not join her, anyway the plan was to join her out there about three weeks after she had arrived there. Now listen to this, she did not even last a week out there because we were having phone sex every other night and she was using the phone in her hotel room. As you can imagine she had a huge phone bill which she could not afford to pay, they were threatening her with the police so I had to send her some money over to pay the bill. Luckily the experience of it all made her want to come back so I had to pay for her flight back which wernt cheap. She's cost me a bloody fortune over the years.

I'm going to be completely honest with you here mate and give you the best advice possible.

The very best investment you can make in a woman like that is a hitman. That will cure all of your problems and will, in the long run, save you money.

Or you could just leave them?

  14. Assuming we can get relegated and then come back up again is a very dangerous plan. Sure some come back but there are a lot that don't. Much better to struggle in the Prem and rebuild within it..... plus for those of us that live in other parts of the world. Watching Villa on TV would be gone.... actually it has been torture watching recently so that might be an augment for going down!!

Relegation can never be part of a plan but if we have new owners with money and a long term plan then it wouldn't be a complete disaster. If we get relegated with Lerner still in charge and still no takeover that is when I would really fear the worst for the club.

Obviously all hypothetical as we may stay up regardless of who is in charge.

You have to treat relegation as a disaster, until it happens. Otherwise, it'll happen all the more likely. Presently, it hasn't happened yet, so it's a disaster.

Should always be prepared for a disaster.

  16. As a society we feel good times are impossible without drink drugs sex etc. To an extent it's probably true but non of that is sustainable. I actually envy those who found their happiness and become content through other means, i.e. Religion, spiritualism etc.

Easy to say in hindsight but if I could leave my life again I would have taken that path.

dude I to envy people like that, if someone finds happiness in preying to god everyday fair play to them. Other people find happiness in music, walking etc. I love roy's character off corrie, I always say to my missus I wish I was more like that because he's just so simple on the surface but so interesting at the same time.

Maybe it's something that has to be learnt at a young age. Or maybe others just 'see the light'. I can probably do a couple of weeks of clean living max before the downward spiral begins again.
