  1. NOBODY IS TALKING ABOUT BENT AT 5M !!!!!!!

I said risking 5M above his asking price at around 10M would be a gamble, which means 15M.

My point is; who are we to judge his value before he has ever played a match for us?

United paid 28M for Rooney, a kid that wasn't even better than Lee Hendrie at the time.

Absolute bollocks this is mate. Don't even think about Darren Bent being a world beater and why pay £5m more than his value? Gago is going to Real for £13m. £5M is a large premium for us to pay when ou turnover is around £50-60m.

You will know that price is determined by supply and demand, for £15m there are much better players around than Darren Bent. He could well be the next Michael Ricketts! Who?

  2. Next few seasons? Surely that is a bit long term. With regards Gabby he has been our best player this season and that is why he has played every minute, the guy is worth more than £10m now.

    sorry mate...10m is dreamland!!

    1.5 to 2m max!

Talk of him being called up by England, been the find of the season for many. If Dave Nugent is being talked of as being £5-6m I think it is safe to put a near £10m valuation to take him off MO'N.

If we can sign players as good and fast as Gaby for £1.5-2m then please name them and I'm sure that Ian Storey Moore would be very interested, in fact he may be out of a job.

  3. would offer bad value for money at the moment.

F*ck value, you are not the one to judge value when he hasn't even played one game for us.

What if he goes on to score 15 goals every season? What is 5M in 2006? What is 5M

    for a "big club"? Nothing!

£5 for their best striker? You are having a laugh! That would guarantee relegation and missing out on the TV deal wind fall next season. Seeing that economics is the study of choice and I'm an economist I think it's something I know a little bit about to be honest. We would be better offer paying £7m for Defoe than £12m for Bent which is the fee that I would expect you would need to pay.

With the £5m you had left you could get Bale or Young, that should help result in more points accrued by the end of the season.

  4. All the rumours seems to link us to 3 stars quality players. Where are the five stars players :)

I would like to see us sign more hungry 4 stars players. I think we still have not aim for higher standards of players.

Thats all very precise but only really works when scouting on Champ. MO'N will surely be thinking more along the lines of:

Is he better than what I have?

Do I need to strengthen that position?

Is he good value for money?

If all three then he will try and sign them.

  5. Given time you will get your wish with no.4! Im sure you will see an upsurge in half season tickets before the deadline but with so many false dawns at the club some folk take slightly longer to be convinced.

General, you were one step ahead of me when I requested that we invite Ron Saunders back to the club, so I now have to think of another guest that you could have at VP. HRH Prince William is a Villa fan and while I have seen his brother at Arsenal I can't remember him attending a game at VP, even though his dad opened the Trinity. Surely this is something that would seperate us from the crowd annd give us the royal seal of approval.

I'll second that, have always thought HRH needs to get himself down the ground!

Claret is a very regal colour!

This is a fantastic idea General it really is ,,, I wouldnt be surpised if you had already invited him to VP.

How ironic that after making the Ron Saunders return request to the General and then the General making it public that I couldn't get a ticket because I needed the funds for my half season ticket before pay day. Not happy about it after 15000 that werEn't at Bolton will be there cos it's Man U.

Fingers crossed I will get a couple of tickets from Tom Ross, otherwise it will be the TV in a city centre pub for the game and Youtube for Ron Saunders on the pitch.

  6. i'd rather see tom hanks here tbh in a villa shirt coming onto the pitch 8)

and he could do some free marketing for us in america

    (another famous villa fan apparently)

He is a Villa fan but that is only because he likes the name, apparently we sent him a signed shirt and an open invite to a game, he aint been yet I don't think.

  7. Whats it like being on the Stretford End Rocafella?

I dunno, you have probably been to Old Trafford more than me.

Edit: And pardon my recent posts, not trying to offend anyone. I was just trying to point out what Reo-Coker might feel if he evaluated Villa over West Ham. Not neccessarily the same as you guys.

Not been yet but will be do a lot more aways in the near future.

  8. I have just purchased a half season ticket, shame i had to sit in North stand with my free ticket yesterday though, would have much preferred my season ticket seat in the Holte especially as the Holte was so empty!! Look forward to seeing you at the Man U game General, mines a lager if your buying!

I had a similar experience Ginge, I was put in the Upper Trinity and my half season ticket is in the Holte. Whereas my mates mum was in the back of the Holte with her mate, Sue. How the chavs trembled!

  9. Don't know about Bardsley, he hasn't excelled at Rangers as expected. He is better than Hughes though, much better at passing the ball and being available for link-ups. He has been nurturing from the imfamous Gary Neville :P

Curtis Davies I am all for; he is strong and a good header, and Wenger wanted him before he got Gallas. Not a bad review....

But Randy Lerner; if you know anything about soccer you should buy David Beckham, or at least make an attempt.

He would solve the right-side crisis, the low attendance-crisis, the set-pieces and everything. It has been a long while since

we had a real hero at Villa Park.

If you know anything about Randy Lerner you will know that MO'N will pick who we buy. Had enough of Manure rejects who won't cut the mustard! Whats it like being on the Stretford End Rocafella?

As for Davies, he is so good that he has been relegated and is now captain of a team half way up a shit division 1, £8m my arse!

  11. Never a truer word said general, but over the season we will get what we deserve. I just hope that we can keep the momentum going until January.

Are yourself or Randy going to the Charlton game on the 30th? That is a really important game for us to win.

What do you make of the growing takeover talk at practically every club? Do you think some of the groups linked are just trying to get involved of the new TV deal? Was the growing amount of takeovers something that Randy and the board expected when you took over?

  12. Good afternoon General!

Will be going to Villa Park this afternoon as a season ticket holder for the first time, I always said I would purchase a season ticket when an individual departed as chairman.

Went to the Villa shop in Birmingham to book my ticket yesterday and was told that they didn't sell them there even though that was what I was told on the season ticket hotline on Wednesday. Luckily we were able to call the number from a mobile and we were told by the manager in the shop which seats were available.

I do think though that this is something that needs looking at in future what with so many people only being able to get to the city centre shop in the week.

Hope you can watch todays game on ESPN etc.

  13. But what is value in 2006?

Sure no player are sold for 50 - 100 any longer (well, it could happen with a few), bit it's only years since every newspaper had the "who is the first to be sold for 100M"-competitions all over the place.

Sheva - 30M, for a 30 year old, who has failed so far! Where is the value? There is none, but will they regain the title? Sure!

Carrick - 18M, for a player I wouldn't have paid more than tops 12M for. Value? To whom? United can carry 18M easily.....

Villa must up the prices and up the wages, or else we are doomed. When playing FM2007 you see the differences. Our best player is paid like 30K-a-week or something, whilst United, Arse and not least Chelsea pay around 70-100K for many of their players!

Utd have paid £14m for Carrick so far and the other £4m is based on success...so they will only pay £14m for him. He still aint worth it though!
