  1. Aston Villa are reported to have targeted Everton goalkeeper Richard Wright, as Stefan Postma looks set to depart to Spain.

The Dutch shot-stopper's agent confirmed he has received interest from La Liga, leaving Villa short of serious competition for Thomas Sorensen for the number one jersey next season.

RICHARD WRIGHT Postma's agent Pietr Buter said: "There is a club in Spain who are serious about signing him but there are some things to be sorted out."

Wright has endured a frustrating time at Goodison since his £3.5million move from Arsenal in 2002, with injuries and the form of Nigel Martyn restricting him to just 43 Premiership starts.

Should he move to Villa, the 27-year-old will hope to succeed in keeping Denmark international Sorensen out of the side - something that Postma has failed to achieve in the past two seasons.

Villa could face competition from Midlands rivals West Bromwich Albion in the bidding to sign Wright.

EDIT : Already linked, see I was a little late.

  2. Taylor: Elliott not for sale

Hull boss Peter Taylor has warned suitors Aston Villa, Charlton and Portsmouth that star winger Stuart Elliott is not for sale.

Reports have linked the Premiership trio with the Northern Ireland international.

But Taylor is adamant that not even a bid of £3m would persuade the Tigers to sell the Ulsterman.

"If clubs think they can get him for £3m, they are wasting their time," said Taylor. "When you look at the market, he's got to be worth more than that.

"I know Stuart is very happy here - and we're obviously very happy with him," he told the Hull Daily Mail.

  3. Ok, only gone back a few pages in this thread but has David Villa come up yet? Striker at Zaragoza, just called into Spain squad - scored some goals, they only finished 12th last year....

And just linked with a move to manure who have apparently told his club they want him

  4. Real Madrid have released Portuguese international winger Luis Figo, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.

The 32-year-old fell out with coach Wanderley Luxemburgo near the end of the season after being used as a sub as Real finished second behind Barcelona.

"The way they treated me when I was dropped wasn't right. They didn't tell me I wasn't going to play. It really hurt my pride," Figo told Marca.

The former World Player of the Year had a year left to run on his Real deal.

Figo has been a long-term target of Tottenham, who are in the market for a right-sided midfielder after selling Simon Davies to Everton for £3.5m.

Real's director of football Arrigo Sacchi had admitted on Punto Radio that Figo's future at the club was in the balance.

"I don't know whether he will stay. He's got a contract with us and I hope he stays because he could still be a great player for us and he is a great professional," said Sacchi.

"But I think his future depends more on him than it does on us. If he continues to feel down about his situation then it won't be good for him or for us."

Figo joined Real from arch-rivals Barcelona for a then world record fee of £37m in a sensational transfer in 2000.

Stop laughing long enough to post thoughts on this as a possibility. Two years out of him for a free transfer may invigorate interest in us as a club and attract better players than are within our current reach

  5. A possible goalkeeping replacement for the Postman?

Manchester United have released goalkeeper Roy Carroll.

The 27-year-old Northern Ireland international is one of eight players to be let go by United, with keeping colleague Ricardo also on his way out.

Carroll had regained his first-team place at United by the end of the season and played in the FA Cup final ahead of American Tim Howard.

Ramon Calliste, Ben Collett, Daniel Nardiello, David Poole, Lee Lawrence and Paul Tierney have also been let go.
