  1. My dad was a Villa supporter, so that's where I get it from.

We left Birmingham when I was 8 (Luxembourg) and because I was a kid, removed from the city, I remember not really getting the local rivalry then. I told my Dad I wanted Birmingham city to do well because they were from the same city and he laughed and said I wasn't supposed to say that - so I got it eventually.

I have weird memories of supporting Aston Villa because I couldn't go to games and there was no sky - like writing to Graham Taylor with some tips on how he could improve the  team! (at age 8) One was letting dogs on the pitch to chase away the opposition (I don't think I really got the nuances of the game :-))

I live in Sydney now, so the time difference is an arse - I go to games when I come back and have seen some memorable ones. (Gary Cahill scoring scissor kick against the blues was probably the highlight). But there are actually a fair few of us out here (We all go for sydney fc out here as well as the Villa, it's not quite the same)

  2. The problem with selling Benteke is showing weakness from manager and club. Yes it happens all the time at every club.. but after 10 months is a joke. Lambert could possibly have other players who star and do the same. He needs to stamp it out and use Benteke as a lesson to other players who even consider it.

Reject anything under 30 million. Stick him in the reserves for a few months until he shows some pride and apologies to Lambo. Make sure we give him a bit of a scare for his world cup campaign on the brink.

The rest of the players will take notice that Lambert or Villa will not be **** with. Im sick of these players constantly doing this to our club over the years. Time we made a stance. We can always sell him in January or next season and still get good money for him.

Yeah I'd back this - there has to be some sense of honouring your contract and if the club just let him go then it sets a precedent.

Incidentally what do people make of this:

Can report unrest from within the Benteke camp, I'm hearing one advisor taking the other to court for £90,000 over his Villa move!

I know he's the SSN reporter but is what he says generally reliable or is he like a twitter version of the mail?

This doesn't hurt anywhere near as much as losing Jimmy that's for sure.

Very true - I still remember him showing off his new Citeh shirt - it was like seeing the ex who's dumped you parading around with someone else.

Think some people need to get a life. James Milner had what? 1 Excellent season for us - 2 years (and a loan spell in total). Dont get me wrong - disappointed to see them all go, but do yourselves a favour and wake up - they are NOT interested in us!!

Jeez sorry for caring...um I have a rather nice life thankyou very much, ten minutes from the beach, nice gf, nice flat, nice job - doesn't mean it's not gutting when your best players go and the club has to rebuild.

This is my favourite quote from the Swansea thread:

"Other fans, like me, and I'm not the only one, only grudgingly accept we have to sell him because we think he has such great potential, and of which his crossing accuracy is only one aspect."

This thread is **** hilarious - I'm sitting at work sniggering uncontrollably while getting odd looks from everyone else.

:crylaugh: Great to hear  Thevillanofoz - I hope you warn them all too, to duck next time a Bannan corner kick taken from right here in the UK comes crashes  through your Aussie works office windows. :)

Con will submit & forward all relevant hoof charts & heat maps to you accordingly, following it's orbit & trajectory, & you can also pass an accompanying .gif to your works gaffer so that you don't get fired & he can claim for all the damage on the insurance policy cover providing ofcourse that the loss assessor  doesn't get to realise it's all  a complete...........................Con! ;):):P .

Con will also claim wee Barry thought he was playing for Sydney FC and it was actually a brilliant piece of world class skill.

  6. Given our skittish defence and an unwillingness to actually try and head the ball during set pieces last year - I don't care if he's six foot, anyone who's prepared to sprint and launch themselves into a flying header against another player  with zero hesitation  gets my vote.

why do people believe the cr-ap they read on social networking sites? especially twitter, its all bull, however did we cope before twitter, shocking

"Because people have too much time on their hands..."

Because it's may and what else are we going to do till mid August

  9. Just to get back on topic - I listened to the original interview in French - it bares zero resemblance to the Flemish quote (he basically says it s up up his agent to deal with any transfer talk and that's pretty much it) - he does talk about his career but it definitely feels more like a long term thing. At no point does he mention Arsenal! He just needs to stop talking to sports journos!

  10. I can't see him staying at all.. He clearly wanted a London move & supports Arsenal & on top of that can you really see Randy turning down a half decent offer for any of our players? ...Coz i can't... He's all about the money after all!

Shame as he is our best player by a country mile... but then that's another reason he won't be here.. We always sell our better players so he's as good as gone.

This! Remember that furor a few months ago about him wanting to go to Arsenal and thinking Villa was in London...I listened to the original video and it's not good - the etranslation is this:

Question: it's June, there are the two Manchesters, Chelsea, who would you pick?

Answer: Arsenal - blah blah I love them...

The damning part of the interview is in the question - the tone of voice of the journalist and the speed with which he answers - he s asking 'imagine all these big

    Clubs

Wanted you, where would you go?' and the speed and tone Benteke answers with sounds like somebody who's been asked 'what's the dream?'. There's no - ooh I love aston villa andwant to build this team. There's no question of IF he would leave at the end of the year just where he would go. Benteke clearly wants a place in either a CL team or the club he supports. Unless the club refuse to sell him, like they did with Barry, round 1, he will not be here next season. It sucks but we just have to try and get as much cash as possible.
