  1. Newcastle were the better team today and deserved their win. Showed more quality on and off the ball. I'd have given them the penalty towards the end too (Though stream not the best guide).

Must say that for a premiership team, our passing verges on terrible at times. No surprise our possession statistics are often poor. Just hope we can improve as the season goes on.

And Weimann needs to be dropped. Can't understand why Lambert perservered with him so long today. He's not shown anything this season thus far and little again today.

  2. I'm throwing out my "only watch Villa" rule now.

From the threads, I know there's a few non-US people watching streams of the NBC coverage. I'd be kind of curious to know what they think of it.

Well, there was plenty of Rebecca Lowe leg in NBC's match of the day. They don't get any of that in the English MOTD!  :P  Just Alan Hansen's quivering lips when he watches Liverpool try to compete in the modern game..

  3. Kind of surreal hearing the lovely Rebecca Lowe* do a read for the NFL (of course, as noted, NBC's NFL games thus far have featured promos for the PL).

*: I don't know if it's anglophilia, but the accent and the football knowledge push Rebecca from a 7 to an 8. She has rocked the same black dress on every PL broadcast thus far on NBC, though.

That's funny. When their broadcast began, I thought to myself "I bet Lehi fancies her" :P

Yes, better coverage than fox. Much more build up, show us a bit more of what's happening at other grounds. My only complaint of the days coverage was that they were a little late for the 2nd half kick off in certainly 2 of the 3 games (maybe all 3, I cant really remember with the Liverpool game now). That's a bit poor for me.

  4. And some Stole fans are creaming themselves over that performance ?!?!

    "Lively game at Anfield.
    We play football(!)
    New Stoke.
    So PROUD!"

"Really, really promising stuff from Stoke - overcame their nerves and were right in it second half.
We are going to have a really good season."

Ermm. What?? You players could barely string 2 passes together!

  5. Not long to go now! So excited to see Villa back in action.

Hoping for the best, in team performace and NBC coverage..

"And it's a corner to Villa. I understand Villa like to employ the WDFAFC tactic when they win a corner" (yeah, i know its going to be English commentry thankfully)

"Westwood floats one over and Benteke climbs brilliantly over Mertesacker and its....time for an ad!

Arghhh, bloody NBC and your #### ads!#$@! :P

Yea, even they wouldn't do that to us (would they? :o ) Awful amount of ads in much of their programming though.

Here's hoping you do us proud Villa!

  6. I'll be skipping it this year, was very disappointed with FM13.

Was also very disappointed with Fm2013. Also I think my time with the series has come to an end now. Must be 3 decades of playing most of them, but just play them less and less with each release now and soon get bored with it.

  7. How would you rate the managers in the Premier League? I based them mainly on what they've done in England, and admit i don't know enough about a few of them. Some in the lower half are young and not had time to prove anything yet and i'm certain will go on to prove better than some of the old faces who have achieved little but are higher at the moment.

But would be interested to see how you rate the managers

    1. Jose Mourinho (Chelsea)
    2. Arsene Wenger (Arsenal)
    3. David Moyes (Man Utd)
    4. Martin Jol (Fulham)
    5. Paul Lambert (Aston Villa)
    6. Brendan Rodgers (Liverpool)
    7. Andre Villas Boas (Tottenham)
    8. Sam Allardyce (West Ham)
    9. Roberto Martinez (Everton)
    10. Pelegrini (Man City) (no nothing about him so put him in the middle)
    11. Steve Bruce (Hull)
    12. Mark Hughes (Stoke)
    13. Alan Pardew (Newcastle)
    14. Michael Laudrup (Swansea)
    15. Chris Houghton (Norwich)
    16. Malky McKay (Cardiff)
    17. Ian Holloway (Crystal Palace)
    18. Steve Clarke (West Brom)
    19. Mauricio Pochettino (southampton) (again no nothing - but had no time to prove anything yet)
    20. Paulo Di Canio (Sunderland)

  8. Sadly they dont really seem to care about improving things.

I remember the General being taken to task on here many years ago about AVTV. Nothing seems to have changed with it. It's been about 4-5 years since I was a subscriber to it. Poor commentary with little idea what goes on in the games, many broadcast failures, you're better off reading live text updates or the match thread for a better idea of whats going on! The General's reply to the complaints about poor commentry? "He seems like a nice guy"(probably their thinking with Alex McCleish too! :P). Never renewed my subscribtion after that season, I knew they were happy with the substandard service.

  9. Good to hear he's staying on for now. The lad is easily talked into things though. Around agent, he does agents bidding. Soon as he lands back at training, he does club's bidding. If i was a salesman, i'd feel quite positive knocking on Christian's door.

Still, i'll never be able to look at him the same way again after reading this thread. Why did someone have to mention those little alien ears, i never noticed them before! It's all i see when i look at him now!

  10. Anyone else spot the Villa flag/banner on yesterday's stage 9? It covered the windscreen of one of the campers/rv's (whateever they're bloody called! :) ) as they were climbing one of the mountains.

Froome for the win it seems! Shame Nibali isnt in this one, he dominated the Giro and might have offered some interesting competition for Froome. Though still would back Froome for this year's tour.

  11. Thanks for the info Levi. I guess when i saw Premier League World on NBC, i had high hopes that the other Sky programs would soon follow (Sky Sports News, Premier League Review Show). But as you say, there's a chance SSN may get aired on the new Fox channels. If not, I'm sure i'll soon get over it! :P

I shall keep my eyes and ears peeled to news about the extra channels NBC will make available. Despite the negatives I had with FSC, they did a good job of covering many of the games in the Premier League and more often than not, you could view most of Villa's games (live or not). Just hope I have no problem adapting to NBC's coverage and can watch the beginning of the new Villa boys careers with us.

  12. Shan't miss Fox. For me they just got worse and never had any real idea about what they're doing. The likes of Fox Football Fone in was good at the time, because it was run by real football fans. But they quickly ran from that and had no idea how to replace it. Now we just get repeats and repeats of chumps lge games. As for Fox Soccer News, i stopped watching that years ago, just got sick of listening to people who had little to no idea of the sport they were covering (whats the point of listening to them!?)

As for NBC, I wait with some trepidation. I watch the cycling and Formula One with them. I attempted to watch the London Olympics but was appalled by their coverage and quickly got an English IP and switched to the BBC.

My main probs with NBC is the amount of bloody ad breaks they take (especially in a sport like F1). But that shouldn't really be an issue when show premier league football (surely they wouldn't take a break during play! or would they.. :P )

Also the promise of streaming every premier league match online, I hope they show more than one match on the actual tv channel. i have read some of people who follow other sports who have had trouble logging in online and just cant see the events they want. So hopefully, they'll show more than the one game during the main match days.

Yes, i see they have started showing Premier League World. I really hope they will broadcast Sky Sports News. Thats the one show I tune into every day on Fox.

Which brings me to the last problem with NBC, their schedules can be way off some days if your not tuning in to watch a live show. I suppose it's understandable if they are covering live events, but a few weeks ago, I had to wait 1hr 50mins to watch the show I was waiting for.

Anyway, just my little thoughts. Hope they prove to be good for football!

  13. "I’ve never played under anyone like him and I’ve played for some of the best managers around,” said Bramble. “Steve Bruce, Roberto Martínez and Sir Bobby Robson."

    Poor, poor Martin..
