Have no idea about the validity of the rumour, but you do realise that every game is filmed and broadcast live for the international audience? - not just what the UK market gets on Sky or BT.

I do realise this, yes. Not sure what difference it makes though. As it happens, the guy who told me this tells me that the situation should be OK now. He works for a company who hire broadcast staff and equipment to independent and foreign broadcasters and occasionally Sky and ITV when they're at capacity.

  2. Rumour now is that some games (including ours) may get canned due to a shortage of outside broadcast equipment and operators, as they're required for the funeral. If Sky can't arrange a crew to cover a match on a Friday night and then another event 3 days later, I'd suggest they're in the wrong business. If I was Villa, I'd be telling Sky that come what may the game will be going ahead - if they're not there to cover it, tough titty......and we still want paying, by the way.

    How do you know?

Club have been mailing out notifications this week....apparently I'm only 15310 in the queue, so just another 3/4 stadium upgrades to wait.......alternatively, if some of you existing season ticket holders would be good enough to catch something nasty that would also help.

It absolutely kills me when people say “he can down tools for the season now”. He’s come from the favelas of Brazil to become an elite athlete on the global stage. Imagine the drive and commitment needed to do that. Why would he then just down tools because he’s got a free transfer in a year? Even if he was that unprofessional he wouldn’t be so stupid, since the better he plays the better the move he’d get on a free / the bigger the contract from Villa. It’s just nonsense, players don’t tend to perform any worse in the last year of their contract whatsoever.

...especially in a World Cup year.

  5. This is the 'we're keeping the lights on at Bodymoor Heath' signing, despite the fact that he passed his medical about 4 hours ago and is probably cracking one off to the porn channel in his Belfry hotel room....

It will be funny, in a way, when Gerrard goes and it’s as if the players magically learned how to play again.

A squad assembled north of 200 million that can’t do the basics or a manager so out of his depth that he’s got them in an awful system that hampers them?

We had a lineup of Watkins, Traore, and El Ghazi as well as Sanson, Mcginn, and Luiz in behind that had more fluidity than the current setup. And somehow it’s the fault of these much more talented players?

    Rubbish.

As over half of the squad are the same players who managed to get the previous manager sacked I'm not sure your theory holds much water....

I suspect that to be so, we need to remember, many of these got Dean the sack......He said last night " we are asking them to do things, like close down, be first the ball etc,etc and they are just not doing it.....Their running stats are generally poor, are they incapable?

Cashs defending at the back post is scandalous, who can legislate for that, Martinez has gone back to the form of why Arsenal released him........I thought Watkins was in Hyde park, in his own passive world......This lot will get any manager the sack, playing like they are.

Fully agree with you - for all Gerrard's faults (and there are a few) a manager can't legislate for so called professional footballers who can't even do the basics right. The number of 5-10 yard balls that go astray is a joke at this level. People not tracking runners, caught out of position etc......blaming it on tactics is the easy way out for the players. Elite level sportsmen should be taking responsibility for their performances, at the moment its all on the coach and these jokers are getting a free ride.

Don’t get me wrong  Moura is a great player on his day and improves the squad…. Just that’s it’s not the level of ambition I guess I was expecting.

I think that's what Moura's telling his agent....

Does anyone genuinely think that players with even a bit of ability will come to us tomorrow with the manager about to be sacked. It isnt iff , its when now. He looks broken and clueless to do anything about it.

Spot on - no one's coming to join this circus any time soon....

I don't think the problem is the players arguing with each other. I think some dislike Gerrard and are not happy with how he had treated some of the players. So you have a split where some will be on board with his tactics and others will not buy into it as they hate the man.

You're most likely right, if the rumours of 'bomb squads' etc are true, it doesn't bode well. I still think there might be remnants of the captaincy debacle lurking in the background.....both Mings and McGinn are big characters, it would be natural if some players gravitated towards one or the other ?

In the same way that managers enquire into the character of prospective new players, it's only natural that players would ask anyone they knew, what the dressing room is like.
