Don't really get the stick. He has limitations as a player which is why he's still here. However he's proven time after time to be an important player for us.
He's also been completely changed as a player over the last 4 years. He showed he was a good striker during the time under MON, getting called up for England. Since then he's been moved around and asked to be a different player, partly because every manager since MON has struggled to utilise the squad to get decent results and performances.
Yes he's earning a fortune, but that's not his fault. He didn't hold the club to ransom, he didn't complain in the press. The club agreed to give him a good deal and he took it.
I don't think he's ever not tried, just because he doesn't run around like a headless chicken doesn't mean he's not trying. There are games where he struggles but the majority of our current squad are at a level where they struggle most games.
He's not a club legend but he will be someone I think of and remember fondly when he's time here is done.

So is this player in the diame mould or is he similar in shape to our current midfield players?
-
I think Westwood is a good player to have in the squad just not good enough to be a key midfield player

Delph has lots of qualities thats why people rate him. Westwood trying to take people on wouldn't make people rate him more.
I know and Delph hasn't got his passing ability that's the point
Westwood hasn't got the ability to take people on like delph. So if you create a chance and that person doesn't score it's the creators fault? Westwood is the only decent passer we have at the minute. People love Delph yet he doesn't create much. I think if Westwood took people on instead of passing it he'd get more recognition! He has to up his game this year but if as a passing midfielder you have zero movement up front you'll never look brilliant.
Westwood has lots too and they're different to Delphs yet some people rate Delph a lot more. My point is Delph looks a more exciting player because he goes past people where as Westwood keeps things ticking over. If you look at their stats there's nothing in it.
Which is why stats can show a different story. Delph is more exciting, more important to us and a better player. People appreciate delph more because of that.

I really do feel its the right move to start him. It will make senior players realise there's competition for places, it will reward a player for performing well and it will actually give us a better chance of winning. He's an attacking player, full of confidence and playing well.
-
So who do you suggest? We paid what? 800k for him? Who could you get better than Westwood for a few million in our current situation?
I'm not moaning at the way he tries to play. He is a capable passer of the ball, I just think we need and can do better.I just don't understand some fans mentality. We moan about the hoof ball we've been playing under Lambert, but still slate Westwood when he's one of the only ones that tries to play football the right way.
Well we seem to be after Sanchez and were after ki. We've signed Cole and we have Gardner coming through.
I think we can try different midfield combinations. The only one who should be an ever present in it is delph.

I think Westwood is the one to be replaced.
Delp is our best midfield player. We look to be signing a DM and we have Cole and nzogbia who can play as an attacking midfield player.
I think Westwood will play less minutes this season due to others taking his place.

Thing is, we were 9-13 for almost all of last season #justsaying
I can see what you're sayinf but that really doesn't matter when you end up with 38 points and barely surviving again.
-
We were a team that clearly struggled to create and take chances last season. We looked poor going forward in plenty of games. Westwood is not someone who created lots of clear cut great chances.

All these chances created yet zero assists from open play. Not sure why people keep rolling that stat out. Someone on here clarified that the statistical definition of a chance was just a pass leading to any attempt on goal no matter how far out or off target. His figure was clearly bumped up by the fact that he took all of our set-pieces and he is a poor set-piece taker at that.
Yes, there's little point just relying on a specific stat.

Like with all stats I'm reluctant to just judge using them. Westwood has his good points but has also been a weak point at times. Needs to continue to improve to continue being a regular starter.
-
Not sure I'd describe the defence as great but on paper it looks more solid than it has in recent years. Yet to see if Lambert can organise it correctly though.
-
He deserves to start the season. After that the club can decide how much he plays.

Just getting back from secret cinema and seeing back to the future. What a great film, watched it loads and still enjoy it.
On a sidenote I highly recommend secret cinema, it was fantastic.
-
Would look like a good signing, can't say I know too much about Sanchez.
-
Why not start him? Reward him for being better than other during pre season games. Give him that incentive to keep performing and keep his place.
We look poor going forward, he could be a surprise addition for opponents and make a real difference.
-
Last summer really was poor. I was pretty excited signing these unknown players but it was awful.
-
I don't think their contracts are down to Lambert at all. I'd imagine he wants all of them signed up as soon as possible.

He's played less than 3 hours of premiership football. I'm surprised anyone can say he looked good or bad during such a short spell.

whereas I think it will make a difference. I know from your previous posts you really don't think it'll make a difference especially under the current regime but I really do and the problem is you'll likely never be able to tell because others will get the credit. For me it's one of the key positions in the club and obviously in any business whether in a thriving business but more so in a struggling/restrained business, that's when good CEO's can make a real difference.I don't get the excitement over who the new CEO could be. It will make little difference to the club.
It's never going to be exciting like signing a great player or an exciting new manager comes in but I am very intrigued/interested who the next CEO is because that will, in my eyes, affect the future of the club.
Will it though? It most likely is a short term appointment until he manages to sell the club.

So he's tiny? I was hoping for a bit of an enforcer.
