  1. Oh yes, I have that, it's fantastic. SW says he considers Storm Corrosion, Heritage and his solo album Grace for Drowning to form a "loose trilogy", and I can see what he means.

2012 was the year I belatedly discovered SW/Porcupine Tree, and I have become a BIG fan (not so keen on Blackfield or NoMan so far, but give it time).

I only got into PT because they were one of my youngest son's fave bands and I'm so glad I did. Saw them live a couple of years back ( The Incident tour) and they were fantastic. Wilson is a genius IMO. I do actually like NoMan, I find it very relaxing tho I can see why people would find it boring and Blackfield are a bit hit and miss really, with some decent moments such as "Waving". Steven's solo stuff is utterley brilliant, Grace For Drowning is one of my favourite albums of the last few years.

  2. I suppose if the ball's down the other end it's less likely to go in the Villa net!

It's what you do with it when it's down there that counts and at the moment we're suffering by not taking chances, including some gilt edged buggers.

  3. Forgive me if someone else has mentioned this, but for me it was when Sir Graham took the England job. I often think how far he could have taken the club in his first stint, everything was there and falling into place nicely, just a shame that left, especially when it turned out such a bad move for both parties. I also think that John Gregory leaving for the Wycombe job was another "what if" moment for Villa. I always thought he was a better coach than a man manager, which he proved when he started to p!ss certain players off.

  4. Anyone else enjoy the mix up on Soccer Saturday today?

Jeff Stelling announced the last minute Blues goal to make it 2-0 proclaiming Clark would be a happy man on his return to H'field. A couple of minutes later after a break it turns out the Press Association had made a mistake and it was 1-1 :)

Would love to have seen a few noses get that piece of news. :)

I heard that some noses in the ground heard that they'd gone 2 up and started celebrating!! :D

  5. For the past 20-plus years and up to 3-ish years ago, managers have come into the club, done well, hit the VP wall and been sacked. Lately managers have been coming in and doing sh!t and the squad has been weakened, weakened, weakened. And the common denominator has been RL.

Randy, just sell the club to someone who knows what they're doing, simple as.

  6. In the late 70s, early 80s, the rivalry was pretty intense and there were some cracking games between the two clubs. Mind you, I think a lot of people hated the Albion for a particular reason back then, ie the 3 Degrees. I can remember the shower of fruit that greeted Laurie Cunningham at the Hawthorns back in 1978 (Hugh Johns on Star Soccer commented that supporters were "throwing missiles" onto the pitch. It wasn't just the "R" word though, the fact that they were a bunch of dirty b*stards helped too, particularly Ally Brown who was responsible for breaking Alex Cropley's leg amongst other things. They were a tough team to play against back then.

BTW, I'm not condoning the racism that was directed at Regis, Cunningham and Batson, I'm just saying what went on.

  7. there was a time not so long ago that our academy was said to be the best in the league, well to look at man utd for example, their kids really need to not only cut the grade, but they have to tear it a new a**hole as well, they have extremely high expectations, theyve let go of kids that we can only dream of having here, what im saying is yes, the bar should be raised and we should expect better from them, if not, sell them to walsall

The difference at Villa now is that there are no experienced senior players for the young lads to look up to, unlike Manure. What would we give to have a Giggs or Scholes for the kids to learn from? When Barry came into the side he had Southgate to play alongside, who can Baker or Clark look to? Each other, that's who, mainly after the opposition have just scored, but it's not all their fault. If we still had players of the calibre of Barry and Milner at this club I'd think you'd find it would follow that the youngsters coming through would be of a higher quality and would be allowed to develop more naturally as players because there'd be less pressure on them to dig us out of the sh!t we're in.
