He has been atrocious. Especially given his price tag.

We can’t afford too many Diaby’s in transfer windows. We need more Rogers types. Good players.

If he's been atrocious, then words don't have meanings.

  2. personally would prefer a trophy. But in this hypothetical being discussed, getting CL qualification would put us in a better position in the medium to long term to consistently challenge for trophies. It may never happen (see: Spurs), but even now they still have an excellent platform to do it with their financial standing. The flip side is Leicester (maybe not a good example because they won the league), but you could win a singular trophy and still have that PL 'also-ran' status, and always run the risk of relegation or stagnation. I want to ultimately see Aston Villa fight for league titles and the UCL, and while winning the UECL right now would be amazing, if given a straight choice I feel I should go with my head rather than my heart and pick CL.

23 teams, hard to keep track 😃

I also could only watch dodgy hesgoal streams at best, so probably never watched us vs them those years, at least at Ipswich.

hesgoal, fancy :D. It felt like 90% of games I watched were a stream of some other guy streaming the match on FB. I won't sugarcoat it when I say my favourite part about getting promoted was being able to watch every single one of our games on a proper broadcast.

Loving all this, thanks fellas. Got Goldeneye working, got two N64 USB controllers landing in the next week or so.

How easy is it to set up a Raspberry Pi emulator? I've never used RP.

For Retropie, it's as simple as installing a pre-made image. The tricky part is putting ROMs onto it, as you can't just copy them onto the SD card, you have to use FTP if I'm not wrong.

  5. His passing stats are even better than Pau's.

Funny looking at Pau's fbref, and the 2 most similar players to him are...Ezri Konsa and Mario Hermoso  . We're trying to collect them all

I use Mame but it’s a bit of a ball ache getting arcade roms that work fully. Still decent though.

Downloaded Project 64 yesterday and downloaded a load of N64 roms that I obviously own officer, I promise.

    So far seems pretty good.

I put retroarch on my snes classic and it’s brilliant.

MAME and Project 64, oh man you're taking me back to like 2004. My potato computer could barely run them but it was better than nothing as I didn't have many games as a kid.

  7. I really don't want it to go to the last day. I just know that Palace game is going to go the way this Brighton one went. We'll be gassed, and overwhelmed by the atmosphere at Selhurst Park as we always are. My heart won't be able to take the inevitable goal that goes in at the home end, with the fans bouncing etc. Then looking over to Spurs and seeing they're up 4-0 on Sheffield United. Please no 😭

  8. He was great. I've been critical of him, but that was a performance to hang your hat on. If Emi is still injured, I'm a lot less anxious now if Robin keeps performing like that.

I don't think that's an era thing (he's only 4 years older than Martinez), but it's definitely not something he's been asked to do in his career so I do understand where you're coming from.  As I've said before, the drop off is huge.

Yeah I would say Martinez was the same. Like Emi under Smith and Gerrard and Emi under Unai are almost worlds away. Before he was extremely good at the fundamentals (shot stopping, claiming crosses etc), which I would say Olsen is pretty decent at. But since then he's added the sweeping, and ability to play under pressure and Olsen just doesn't have that. The worst part is he's trying, which sometimes makes things worse (like the 2nd goal). He's not wrong, but he's wrong. Idk it sounds weird but it really pains me watching him. I almost feel for him as much as I do for the rest of the team. He's like a fish out of water out there in Emery's system.

I think that's a bit harsh.  The defence has completely bailed leaving a striker 1-on-1.  Olsen comes out to try and get the striker to act quickly rather than giving him time, but he manages to get a header across the box and finish smartly.

I wouldn't say that goal was particularly his fault, but like a lot of the discussion around Olsen it does highlight one of his deficiencies, in this case the poor starting positions he takes up. Or maybe they're not poor because we're so used to Emi, but it can't be a coincidence we concede so much when he's on the pitch. Everything he does looks panicked and reactive.

One theory I have is that he, like most current keepers is from an era where keepers didn't need to be so proactive. Our entire platform as a team is built upon this pillar, and if it's even a little bit shaky, we crumble. Before keepers just needed to be solid at their various duties, as and when it's required of them (like Olsen generally is). The ones who were proactive stood out from the pack (ex: Neuer), and as the game evolved more keepers started to play this way. Emi made the transition beautifully, Olsen just doesn't seem to be able to. Limited game time doesn't help of course, but his weaknesses stick out like a sore thumb in Emery's team.

I’m not a goalkeeper, but I don’t see how he was that bad for the second goal? First seemed worse if anything.

He just charged out with no conviction, giving the striker the opening to finish under him. Kind of like Raya for Watkins' goal at the Emirates. Just made up his mind for him.

Not sure why that Roma kit has the 2000's badge, unless they had a recent rebrand? Looks smart though. Wouldn't mind that in claret and blue next season.

    Guess his finger 'slipped'.

What a weirdo. I'm a single guy more than a decade younger than him and I'd be embarrassed if I was caught in 4K like that.

That's just our 21/22 kit again, without the interesting (and controversial) shoulders. One thing I know for sure is that badge has to be golden on the kit. It would look so amateurish with the neon yellow.

  15. Surprised he hasn't been reported to play a PL2 game yet. This time last year I think Carlos was making the bench, and Timber seems close for Arsenal and they got injured later in the season he did. Same goes for Mings tbh. Doesn't look like we'll see them this season unfortunately :(

Barca fans think we might be interested in Kounde.

He very much fits the profile of RB we might be after, can also act as 5th CB as well.

Ohhh now that would actually be a great signing. Seems absolutely perfect for us.

  17. If Carlos wasn't 4th choice this season we'd have absolutely crumbled. Same goes for Lenglet being 5th choice. Our fantastic depth has led us to not being severely hampered by what was otherwise a very lengthy injury list. You don't ever want to be in a scenario where Chambers (or someone similar, not singling him out) is starting half a dozen games in a row or more, just to save a hypothetical 50k a year on wages. I'm sure the difference between finishing 4th and 8th more than makes up for the difference.

Had a lot more to do with Carlos losing his mind for a moment.

He lost his mind because Olsen was charging out of his box, but was nowhere near the ball. He had to clear it, he just executed it wrong. That wouldn't have happened with Emi. Either he'd have already headed the ball away himself, but more likely in that scenario since the ball was so far away, he'd have stayed in his box and waited for the header back/back pass.
