If you're necking stuff that can kill you then that's your fault, not the game.

The game is to neck a pint. Not to do something that'll kill you. It's no more or less dangerous than any normal drinking game.

If the odd person takes it too far and does something stupid then that's their fault.

So you think something which encourages young people to video themselves drinking is a game. Fair enough we're all entitled to our opinion but as we've already seen something like this very quickly gets out of control when one wants to out do the other and that has resulted in a death.

Did you see the news last night where the family of the young lad that died pleaded for this craze to stop? Try telling them that its just a game and I suppose if any teachers agree with your above post what does that actually say about those who are employed to set an example to children.

Yes, it is a game. I'm not sure how else you'd describe it, even if you don't like it?

Drinking games aren't new. I have sympathy for the guys who died and their families. But I would say their death is way more to do with them being moronic about what they were drinking than the game. The game isn't to down pints of spirits or anything else that can kill you.

Blaming the game for their deaths is like blaming the inventor of the motorbike because someone died trying to jump the grand canyon on one.

Nice dig at Stefan at the end there. Classy.

The problem with your 'game' Stevo is that it has very quickly lost it's original identity and escalated into a dare scenario of 'chicken' all over the social networks whereby one party tries to outdo the other and it's that escalation that has finally caused someone's death.

One of the main social networks in Ireland has now banned your 'game' and not before time.

'Your game'? What? People neck things regardless. People egg each other on when it comes to alcohol regardless. Blaming the game here is ridiculous.

Again, I need to ask, was there any need for your ridiculously over the top, inappropriate dig at me?

It was very appropriate in the circumstances which have already been explained to you in another thread. If you want to make further comment then I suggest you take it to pm.

Not this shit again Morpheus. You are about the only one who thinks that Lambert's signings record has been poor. Or maybe the only one who can't take the whole picture into consideration. To state that this ratio of successful signings has been poor as some kind of fact is ridiculous and a bit pathetic.

I actually think it far more pathetic for someone to fabricate statements just to have a dig.

Swansea are about one third the size of Villa.

Sounds like he got fed up rather than anything else.

Right so when another team's manager isn't 'doing well', it's the clubs fault.

But when our manager isn't 'doing well' then it's all his fault.

    Sound logic to be fair.

There was nothing at all fabricated in that post.

You took a completely unnecessary and stupid dig. Then you call other people out for doing the same. Slightly bad form is it not?

Yes it would be bad form if what you are referring to was unnecessary and a stupid dig. It was neither. You liked a post which condoned a social network game in which a young person died. Someone who has a profession which by it's very nature should lead by example should not be doing that.

Staggering that you can take any sort of moral ground regarding anything.

Yeah well we all have our little crosses to bare Stefan don't we.

    What a very strange post.

If you look throughout this forum I really don't think i'm the only one who thinks that Lambert's signings have been poor. I have also consistently said that i'm not oblivious to the financial restrictions that the manager has had to work under.

My main criticism of Lambert has always been the imbalance in his transfer policy which very nearly relegated us.

Furthermore I don't think it's a pathetic statement to criticise his ratio of successful to duff signings due to the team's performances over the last two seasons which speak for themselves.

I actually think it far more pathetic for someone to fabricate statements just to have a dig.

  7. The best business we could do is get him to sign his contract.  Brilliant news for the club if he signs

Would you have given McLeish a new contract?

I do not see how it is 'brilliant news for the club if he signs' because he has done nothing yet to be worthy of a new contract. Indeed Lambert's performance and the performance of the team under him has been more worthy of the sack.

I think when judging a manager you have to sometimes look at the players. Are the players he has, playing to their potential? Are they giving the team 100%.

In my opinion I think the players ( apart from maybe CB at times) are all giving 100% and playing to their potential.

    They always do.

The players he has bought (we are not buying class A eggs-omelettes) - some have been excellent and others not so good.

But overall the buys have been good, Benteke, Vlaar, Okore, Bacuna. Gabby seems to be thriving too.

Then there is the tactics. Counter attacking is definitely our best weapon.

However, if he continues to play Holt I would like a new manager. ( seriously I can't watch this guy, he is doing my head in)

I mean other teams have players like Hazard and Suarez and we have Holt. Even 3 years ago when he was more mobile I would have cringed if he played for us.

But Lambert in my opinion is doing well.

Thats a pretty poor ratio of success from 18 players but we'll just gloss over that.
Fair enough but I think, that Lambert bought some players knowing that they will improve. Helenius, Bennett, Lowton, Westwood, Luna, Tonev, Kozak, Steer and even El Ahmadi, Are you including Guzan and Bertrand in the 18?

Bowery was a long shot. Holt for experience.

If he adds two quality players each year on a shoestring he's doing alright, maybe that's just gloss for you.

Bennett and Luna have been dropped because they have been consistently poor. Tonev has shown nothing to suggest than he is going to improve. Lambert signed the great Holt instead of playing Helenius which says a lot. Lowton has also been dropped and Steer when he plays doesn't exactly exude confidence in anyone. Bowery has been a nothing signing except for the wheelchair gif. KEA has been poor to average in that order.

Guzan I don't classify as a Lambert signing and yes Bertrand (loan), Vlaar and Benteke have however been excellent while the jury is still out on Kozak.

Overall as previously stated his ratio of successful signings has been poor as is his overall result record with us.

Just dropped that Charlie Wyatt who did The Sun article a message on Twitter. He seems to believe we are "definitely" looking to sell despite what Faulkner said. Just needs someone to show him the money.

@CharlieWyett Whats going on with Villa then? Every other press outlet saying we are not for sale, which is opposite to Sun's claims.

they are reacting to claims from ceo who would never publicly admit. Lerner employing a us agency to find a buyer

@CharlieWyett Hope your correct & he finds right buyer. There had been a lot of murmurings that he was looking to sell, so makes sense.#avfc

he definitely is but in no major rush so think club will end up in safe hands

I don't know how believable this is, but his claim we will be ending up in 'safe hands' because Lerner takes his time is BS. He takes his time because he wants to find a person that will suit HIS financial needs, not the AVFC.

    Maybe he means HairyHands?

  12. Yet when Bent was with us the consensus of opinion was that Bent's style was that of a dinosaur and he couldn't play with Benteke. Lambert has now signed Holt who apparently is another dinosaur and couldn't get into the Wigan team.

You also remember that the manager did award Bent the captaincy which is a strange thing to do when you are going to get rid of a player due to his wages.

  13. Necknomination......a reason to end my fb Account

    It's pretty annoying.

But I did get "nominated" and, sadly, obliged yesterday.

But that wasn't because I like it. It was merely for the fact that it's effectively daring me to down a pint. And I'm not one to turn down a challenge like that.

But generally it's not just a pint is it Stevo. I've seen much younger than you taking a lot more than that and hasn't someone recently died by doing it.

I only became aware of this yesterday when my fiancée showed me two young guys who work with her doing this and I was absolutely disgusted with it.

Any dare like that on a social forum should just be ignored and if enough people do it even those that should know better then this latest craze will eventually end and not a moment too soon with a young life already lost.

  14. Bent moved on because stylistically he couldn't play with Benteke. We then replace Bent with another target man similar in style to Bent who couldn't play alongside Benteke for similar reasons. Kozak picks up an injury and guess what, we sign yet another target man who can't play alongside Benteke for the same reason.

    Excellent stuff.

  15.

We got rid of the " Why Paul Lambert should get the sack" too early imo.

It's all the same story, we get a good result and then in the following games we take 2 steps back.

How is this progression? These next weeks will be crucial for us!

    West Ham (h) 1 pt

    Cardiff (a) 0 pts

    Newcastle (a) 0 pts

    Norwich (h) 1 pt

We are relegation condenders, I can't see us picking up many points in the upcoming games. I thought Lambert where on to something, but yesterday he really showed he's true picture.

We played defensively against a top 5 team who struggle to break down tough and organised defenses, if Lambert had reacted appropriately to how the game unfolded second half, we would have come away with 3 awesome points. Alas we didn't, one Vlaar mistake and a wonder goal later, we lose.

We won't set up in a similar manner against those sides, possibly Newcastle, but I've not really watched them this season and don't know how they play.

For West Ham, we'll most likely set up with the diamond again, similar to WBA, and we'll win, as long as Nolan is dealt with.

As for Cardiff, don't let a win against Norwich fool you, they're piss poor, they hadn't won in 7 games before yesterday, and with their squad, I can't see them suddenly going on a winning run. We'll probably set up like Plop, close down quickly and try beat them on the counter, I imagine Gabby should be back by then, and I think we'll rip them to shreds, as we did for the first half v Plop.

Newcastle, tough to say how we'll play, and they're almost as inconsistent as us, I don't know how we'll set up against them but i think it'll hinge on their next two games, if they hit form again, we may set up defensively, try nullify Ben Arfa, if they continue to slump, I reckon we'll go for the throat.

Norwich, I imagine Lambert will desperately want to win and we'll really go at them in that game, and i think we'll set up either with the diamond or go for our 433 from last season.

I think we'll set up in the ways I've outlined above, and that will get us between 7-10 points, possibly even 12, although that is a stretch.

I don't think yesterday showed Lambert's "true picture", he set up in a way that stopped Everton, it worked, but he made poor decisions in the second half which cost us inevitably. We have good enough players to deal with the teams around us, but aren't quite good enough to deal with teams above us yet, hence the more defensive formations.

You can't approach every game in the same manner, if you're not world class, you get quickly found out and exploited, you need to tweak for each game and sometimes even play completely different systems to counter teams.

You can only play different systems with players who are good enough to adapt. We don't yet have enough good players to do that.

  16. We got rid of the " Why Paul Lambert should get the sack" too early imo.

All those games are winnable, even the game against Newcastle who have been severely weakened by losing their best player.

I assume financially and I guess that's correct and if we had more people turning up and spending money we would be able to compete with the evertons of this world.

More people turning up we could compete with Everton? you do know when we had comparable seasons relatively recently in 07/08 when they finished 5th and we finished 6th we averaged over 40,000 they averaged under 37k. In 08/09 when again they finished 5th and we finished 6th we averaged just under 40k they averaged under 36k. In 09/10 when we finished 6th and they finished 3 points behind us in 8th they averaged under 37k and we averaged just under 39k. Even over the last 3 or 4 years when we have dropped like a stone and they have stayed in and around the top 6 we have still had comparable attendances.

Lack of support isn't the reason we have spent the last 4 seasons for the most part in or around the relegation mire.

I'm going to steal the last line of your post Mark.  :D

  18. Thanks for the explanation.

What has disappointmed me in Lambert is that he seems to stick with his favourite players, and doesn't give chances for own youth players...similarly like MON. I can't believe that Carruthers and Grealish would be possibly any worse than "Atomic Strike" Tonev.

I don't understand this at all. If Lambert is sticking with his favourite players then how come Weimann kept on getting game time even when he was in bad form? Delph has been a stalwart in midfield for us whereas El-Ahmadi doesn't appear all the time and Sylla barely features at all. Likewise Helenius has got hardly any game time. As far as I know most of our youth players just aren't ready yet.

Tonev doesn't appear much for us anyway.

Maybe because Delph and Weimann are his favourite players? Tonev has gotten game time but not lately though, that is true. I'd say sticking with Weimann when was horribly off the form shows that he is one of his favourite players. Delph has been our best player all throughout the season so drobbing him wouldn't make any sense.

What does that say about the majority of his signings though?

  19. Away from home we are reliant on one player in terms of the way we play and that is Gabby. If he was fit yesterday I think we go in to the game with a completely different approach.

As soon as he picked Grant Holt to start up top alongside Benteke then the writing was on the wall. Soak up the pressure then when we do get the ball lump it up front, hope it sticks and we could get Bertrand and Bacuna bursting forward. It didn't work though as aside from the goal as an attacking threat we were non existent.

The bottom line really is that our squad is very weak and when one of our main players is out - Gabby, Benteke, Delph, Vlaar it has a way bigger impact on the team than it should do due to the fact the standard of the replacements are simply not good enough.

The squad lacks strength in depth and had gaping holes before the window opened and those same holes remain now - no creative midfilder, lack of a decent defensive midfielder, quality cover at centre back. I think the reason we didn't bring those players in is simply because we didn't have the financial clout to do so and I find it shocking that as a club we did not have the finances to bring in at the very least a centre back that would be an improvement on Baker.

The club has been doing things on the cheap for way too long and has just about gotten away with it so far. Eventually though we will pay a heavy price if we continue to act like a small club no matter who the manager is.

As usual another cracking post Mark but the financial restrictions won't be lifted until we get a new owner and let's hope that comes in the summer.
