  1. This thread seems to take more turns than than a wheel and after 212 pages, we still **** all.
  2. You serious?! For the record, I weren't. But judging from the posts on here, it's almost as if people expect us to get a manager in now that will get us challenging immediately.
  3. I am guessing if we do get Martinez, our title challenge for next season has taken a massive blow?
  4. What suprises is me is that after all the comments about hammering the board, mainly Randy. Nobody has hammered him for sending a letter to Dave Whelan. In this day and age, he could have faxed, emailed, text or even rang!!! Can't believe Randy does not embrace technology, we all know how shit Royal Mail is. RANDY OUT
  5. To summarise - we still don't want McClaren because he done shit with England but has done a good job at club level and won stuff. Some fans don't want Martinez because he has won nothing. So basically we are after John Barnes/Bill Shankly type of manager
  6. Bang on the money. We are a club that haven't won anything (except Intertoto and the peace cup) since 1996. Loads of teams in England have history but it don't mean that you attract massive names, give the guy a break before he has even got in the job, maybe have a bit of faith that this guy can do something with the right resources.
  7. As much as I have a passion in football and follow it religiously , I haven't the first clue about being a football manager and I am pretty sure that nobody that posts on this board has an idea nor have they experienced it a professional level. As a fan, how does this make us qualified to decide they are not good enough in their profession which they have done the graft, got the badges and spent their professional life in the game itself.
  8. So to summarise some of the posts of who people want going by majority 1. Ancelotti - Big european manager, can walk into most jobs which he knows he can - Villa don't fit that bill. 2. Moyes - Won't leave Everton, clearly waiting for the Man U job, understandable. 3. Hughes - Has walked out on 2 clubs aswell as national team manager, up sticks whenever he thinks the grass is greener, which does give Lerner good reason to think this is a stable appointment. Good eye for a player though. Who we don't want 1. McLaren - was assistant to Fergie, took boro to the uefa cup final and had 1 very poor season at boro but took them to their best position as a club ever, was awful for England. Went away though, Won the Dutch title with Twente which was their first ever. Didn't work out at wolfsburg 2. Rafa - Managed 3 massive clubs in Inter Liverpool and Valencia, made dodgy signings at Liverpool but also brought in some good players. Won 2 La Liga's, UEFA cup final, 2 champ leagues finals which he lost with valencia, won champs league, FA cup. 3. Martinez - up and coming manager, plenty to prove, can get a bargain, does well with limited resources and plays good football 4. Coyle-pretty much the same as Martinez. So apart from the managers who we can't get. What are we actually expecting as fans if we don't even want managers who have actually won things.
  9. I actually agree, great manager. For me, him and Martinez are similar and both have the same philosophy and both have done well given their resources.
  10. I think we have two camps of fans here. 1st camp Because we are Villa, because we were successful in years gone by, because we have a large fanbase, rich owner - we should be appointing the top brass manager. In all fairness, Randy appointed Houllier who lets face facts, has had relative success in England & France, created a strong base for the Liverpool champ league winning team - so he brought in a manager who had won stuff. Given our success over the last 10 years - what have we done? Ye europe a few times, semi final and a final, but off all that we haven't got anything to show for it? Not much. Yet, we are still expected to a big name manager. 2nd camp Fans that understand and can see a managers potential, appreciate that a manager has to be given a chance with more resources to achieve their potential, even thought they are not a glamorous name. Appreciate the club have to curb their spending to some extent and bring in a manager that can work within this. Will put their faith in someone that has displayed his qualities in a restricted environment. As you can tell from my post, I fall in the latter category. What ever happens, will you be a fan and SUPPORT your club regardless of whether you agree with the decision or not or get on the managers back before he has chance to do implement his ideas and style.
  11. Martinez is a good manager, he laid foundations at Swansea and left for Wigan (understandable). Has a vast footballing knowledge (especially good young technical players in spain) and anybody that has seen the players he brought into swansea on next to nothing. Brought great young players in McArthur and McCarthy and developed them (McCarthy) more so. Who knows, we may end up with N'Zog & Rolladega. Clearly he has the passion and inspiration, Wigan were dead and burried and one point and he turned it around. He needs a club with the resources to fulfil his potential and we will give him that chance. Get behind the board for once and give the guy a chance, then judge. I for one will give the guy my full support.
  12. Prem Rumours is full of shit tbh, less credibillity than a Journo Yeah, looks like it. Looking back on his timeline it says Rafa is flying into England on Friday for face to face talks, but as far as I knew hes actually based in England at the moment. His 'source' earlier said McLaren was manager and now it's rafa - can hardly see it being a joint effort.

  14. RAMOS!! Now thats a name not mentioned!!!
  15. Moyes won't happen, can't see it at all, If an approach was made for Moyes it would have hit the press in some form. When you look at the remaining candidates it has to be Benitez. Forget the Liverpool connection and look at this record in football, he has managed 3 big clubs - you don't get appointed if you are that shit. What he did with Valencia was so underated and has since not been done in Spain since. As much as Benitez made dodgy signings he made some good ones, you can't discredit him that. You got to take stock of where we are as club, Benitez left liverpool and went Inter the season after tjhey won champs league, for him to come to us has to be seen as some kind of coup. The closest we have got to anything since Randy took over is 3 6th place finishes , a semi final and a final - so we haven't actually got that cup winning title challenging pedigree. When you look at this as an unbiased fan, which is hard - you have to recognise what a good signing this would be. Cue the Benitez/Liverpool haters.
  16. Can I ask, for the people that are crying that we have not got a manager yet - what is the rush? 1. We can't sign any players until July 1st 2. Majority of players are on holiday anyway 3. The season has only just finished 4. The owner, ya know, the guy that sorts this is only back in the country today 5. It needs to be a thorough process not just a case of looking at him going "ye he will do". Some of ya sound like punk ass lil biatchs!
  17. No you cant. And there isnt a bar in the Villa Park boardroom. Nice try though. I thought in light of this thread, with the outlandish stuff I have read already it was maybe worth me adding my complete outlandish claim for the guys that believe everything they read.
  18. I work in the bar in the Villa Park boardroom and I can confirm Jose Mourinho is one of the candidates.
  19. Not saying it is them but Hughton and Curbishley are under the radar.
  20. Out of interest, re Hughes. As it stands we can't get him till the 1st July as he is serving his months notice, but is it possible that Villa could negotiate a small fee with Fulham to waive that clause? Not saying they would, but is it possible that it could happen if Villa wanted him right away.
  21. I think whoever we appoint whether it be Moyes/Ancelotti/Benitez - not every fan will be happy and will still moan about the board's poor decision and call for Lerner's head.
  22. Hi General, Appoint me as manager, I managed to win the champions league for 4 years running, club world championships, the league 5 times and the FA cup aswell as league cup. I don't think you can discard my football manager credentials. In all seriousness, I trust that the board has our best interests at heart....but if you are struggling - drop me a PM!! Regards Blaineyboy
  23. How can Lerner have a terrible record of appointing coaches since? MON wasn't a bad appointment for us and Houllier didn't work out, it aint he hasd appointed 6 managers in since he has been here. Without Randy's money we would not have the expectations we have, Randy has got us there which I think a lot of fans do not appreciate. Lerner is the best thing to happen to our club in a long time. I would rather have an owner like Lerner that the Venkys at Blackburn. judging by your post maybe you would prefer the latter. He may be referring to Randy's record in American football, which I have know idea about really but understand the Brown's have made some questionable appointments. Personally, I don't believe that has any bearing on our situation. His only appointment at Villa is Houllier and I personally don't see it as a bad appointment. Even if it's in relation to NFL, it is a different ball game to the premier league, quite literally! Plus, I think I am right in saying that Faulkner and Lerner did publicy state that they would get a footballing consultation when appointing MON's successor who I belive was Graham Taylor amongst others.

  25. That was Si - a pre-adolescent boy, who thinks Hiddink will come the Villa and Hughes will go Chelsea
