I remember in MON's first season when we bought Watford's best player, also a 22 year old he turned out to be a pretty useful tool in our survival against the drop.
Who quite a few of us had heard of and had quite a buzz around his name, hence the price tag that came with it.
Signing this kind of player to try and develop is great, but signing them and throwing them straight in the first team is just ridiculous, and isn't going to help us in the relegation battle that we'll no doubt be facing in the near future.
Right: I only want players whom people on Villa Talk have heard of.
How many people were up on Neil Taylor, Ashley Williams, Nathan Dyer, nd Angel Rangel before Swansea bought them?
-
Sorry, but I'd take Doyle in a second for the right price--no more than 4 or 5 million. Whether Wolves would sell for such a small fee is another question.
-
Kone for Wigan looks good...... why didn't we buy this guy?
Because everyone on Villa Talk ridiculed him when we were linked.
-
any conspiracy theories on why Ireland didn't play today ? - is he offski ?
I wouldn't read anything into it. Lambert frequently changes the lineup around.
-
I hope we don't loan Lukaku. I think he's got great potential but if there isn't an option to buy after the loan I'd rather we didn't go in for him..
There is no chance -- none -- that Chelsea will sell Lukaku. He will go on loan somewhere to get playing time, and at the end of the loan, will return to Chelsea. He's going to be a star.
-
If we don't bring in another 3 players at the very least I'd be shocked.
Ideally I would sell Nzog - £10m - buy Matt Philips for £7m - the remaining £3m (+ money from any other player sales) I would put towards a new keeper.
I reckon we'd sell N'Zogbia in a second if someone offered £10m. Problem is, no one's going to offer £10m.

The point of the story about Yoshida is that he might've joined us if Vlaar's transfer hadn't happened. I wouldn't expect him to come to us now.

Fiorentina have just signed Valero: http://it.violachannel.tv/dettaglio-comunicati-ufficiali/items/borja-valero-in-viola.html

Agent itk tweeted that we are leading the race for lukaku. Usually fairly accurate
I sure hope not. I hate loans. Are we Wigan? We shouldn't be a training ground for other teams' young players.
-
Just been tweeting Mat Kendrick and he seems to be under the impression that we are definitely choosing to adopt a sell to buy strategy after the first few signings due to wages more than anything else.
Must say i'm disappointed with this as if nobody wants to buy our rubbish we're pretty stuck
I feel you, but it's a reasonable approach to take for a team in our position.

Two things:
1. Carroll, please no. Overpriced, and I can't think of a worse partner for Bent.
2. Berbatov would have zero interest in Villa.
-
Would like us to take a look at Berbatov. I've always likes him and looks like he could be leaving United. He could be the player we need to link up with Bent.
Even at 31, he will be looking play at a bigger club than us.
This.

Daily express (probably on banned list but as we've got twitter comments I hope we'll be fine) claims that we want Bertrand and Scott Sinclair also that we spent £6m on lowton and kea
Looks nailed on for Sinclair. His Wikipedia page currently states the following:
"Looks set to secure a 5 year deal with Aston Villa as they and the player are in talks"
Wittingham must be just about to sign for us really soon now as well, cause his Wikipedia page said something similar a few weeks ago
I would bet good money that it's @mini_beest editing these Wiki entries.

Apparently QPR have also agreed a £7m deal for Ki Seung Yeung of Celtic, another player who i'd like at VP next season.
They really are hitting the Korean market hard this summer. Interesting tactics, maybe they have Korean silent investors?
Or maybe they just think Park and Ki are good?
-
I really, really want to like Fabian Delph. I even got his name on the back of last season's away shirt. But he was poor last season, even before he got injured. He could hardly make a forward pass without it being intercepted.
-
From The Times: "Tongo Doumbia, the Rennes midfielder, is set to a move to the West Midlands, but Gary Jacob, our transfer expert, says it could be West Bromwich Albion or Aston Villa."
According to a few French websites, he is off to West Brom--e.g.: http://www.sport.fr/football/ligue-1-rennes-doumbia-file-west-brom-270890.shtm
-
So it begins.
As a Villa fan, I get utterly embarrassed every transfer window when the Milner rumors begin. It's pathetic. He is gone; get over it. Full stop.
-
I wonder who we will go for as a Left back now then?
Long shot but... Kieran Gibbs?
Please, no. He can hardly play two games in a row without picking up an injury.
-
It has already been said that Bertrand is staying at Chelsea.
It's just as much speculation as saying he's going to leave.
Not when you factor in common sense.
-
Surely Bertrand will stay at Chelsea. I can't imagine that he wants to leave or that Chelsea wants to sell.
-
Although
--------Ahmadi--Makoun
Nzogbia----Ireland-----Barnetta
--------------Bent
Looks nice.
Barnetta will sign for Schalke as soon as they offload another player (and they'll do so soon).
-
If PL doesn't want him he won't sign, this is the same as Bradley we had a fee agreed but AM decided he didn't want him.
Thank god for that. He was terrible.
Not sure how you can determine that based on the little time he played. He had a blinder in Serie A this season and, it appears, will be sold to a bigger club for a good chunk of change.
-
I would happily take Snodgrass and Phillip. No to Holt, and I don't know enough about Ayala.
-
Madness. By the second-half of this season, he wasn't even starting for Wigan.
And the reasons why? Keep up Reg
Yeah, I get that he missed time for the ACN. But he didn't start when he returned. As for the reasons why, Wigan fans are split in their opinions. Some think that he's very good; some think that he isn't. Here is one of the latter opinions:
"Diame didn't start in the team from Feb onwards because of the form of McArthur & McCarthy . . . I'd rather have Diame in the squad than not & you're right that he is technically gifted. As I said though IMO his laziness cancels out that talent all too often & the fact that he's been in & out of the side every since arriving to me indicates that our manager feels the same."

Wantyourmama said summer that he turned down Villa last for Celtic because he wants to win trophies. He won't be coming to Villa.
