  1. My dad got prostate cancer at about the same age as your dad. He found out the day before I got married and told me the day after I got married. It sucked. It really sucked. But he's survived and been clear for five years. So your dad can crush it, too. Good luck, for real.

  2. I was just thinking though...

Put Messi in Hull or Crystal Palace. Wouldn't he also appear as a bit on and off don't you think? Superb when on, but would go missing. Due to team he plays for that is (the way the play, how much they can risk when going forward, how OFTEN they actually do etc.), not how good he is. Not saying that young Ryad is the new Messi, but talking about the principle. Sochaux is fighting relegation every season.

(not sure if principle is the right world, but you get it)

Naw.  I'm fairly certain that Messi wouldn't go missing.

  3. It's gotta be a number ten.

But I'm not holding my breath for another signing till we shed Ireland, Bent, and Given. And even if we don't sign a number ten, I'll still be happy with our business this summer.

  4. Tonev because barring the odd one off last season we didn't have anyone who could score from distance.

We scored quite a few from distance last season.  In fact, I can't remember the last time we scored more from distance.  Lowton, Benteke, Vlaar, and Holman all scored some cracking long-range goals.

I voted for Okore, because who doesn't want to see a repeat or two of his performance against Chelsea in the Champions League?

  5. I know nothing about Bacuna apart from what I've read in the last two or three days.  And from what I've read, he sounds a lot like Reo-Coker: great energy, box-to-box, and not great technique or passing.

  6.

Am I only one who thinks we might have a bigger player to be revealed during the kit launch?

or a bigger player renewing his contract?

    Or both? ;)

Every summer, people speculate whether a new player will be magically revealed, to great dramatic effect, during the kit launch.  And that has never happened, at least not while I've followed the Villa, so I don't expect it to happen this season either.

  7. I don't quite know what people expect from Lambert. Look at our squad: it isn't exactly overflowing with quality. I reckon he's done a solid job so far, especially when you consider the squad's age and the relatively little time we've had to play together. Benteke, Westwood, Lowton, and Vlaar were all good buys whom I expect to do plenty of good for us this season, not to mention the seasons after that.

Today's game against QPR and Tuesday's game against Reading were poor, that is true. But we're in a better spot now than we were 6 weeks ago.

  8. We need someone tall to play with him though. Or a good jumper. Herd springs to mind for me - thoughts on Bannan/Herd CM pairing?

Why does someone tall need to play with him? He and Westwood looked OK together on Saturday.

This goes against popular sentiment, but I'll say it anyway: Herd is terrible. Just terrible. He's the quality of player who starts for a team in 17th place. Which is what we are. But we can't reasonably expect to move higher in the table with him in the starting eleven.

  9. - We missed Ireland a lot.

    - We missed Weimann's movement and work rate which would free up space for the other striker.

    - Bannan is our only good corner taker.

    - KEA didn't do too well in the role he plays, I would play Herd next game.

    - Bent needs to start.

    - Holman's work rate is exceptional, his technical ability is getting better too.

    - I don't think we can play with just one winger, either no wingers or 2.

Bannan is our only good corner taker? I couldn't disagree any more heartily. Albrighton put in peach after peach from the corner today. It wasn't his fault that no one got onto the end of them.

  10. Mat Kendrick ‏@MatKendrick

The ball is in Genk's court, #avfc have made an improved offer on their original one and would go a bit higher, but won't be held to ransom

If We have an improved offer and Kendrick knows we are prepared to go higher then why would he make it public. Clearly Genk won't accept our current bid now!!!

Because he's a reporter, not an employee of Villa.
