  1. If the card works with programmes, food etc as well then yes, it would be good but just for getting in they're a total waste of money- all the clubs I've been to they're no quicker, like I've said they break down and I know people who've got in on under 16 tickets who are over 40.

Anyways, I don't mind paying with cash- on average, in the ground I spend about £5, foor and a programme. Why would using a card make it quicker?? Cash point would be a good idea though.

  2. I continue to believe that the key to more fans is consistent winning on the pitch.

Agree 100%. Over the 3 years we had O'Leary, when things were going well (at the end of 2003/04 season) crowds were huge- 37,000 against Blackburn and Man City I think, over 40,000 against Newcastle and a sell out on the last day. That was because there was a push for Europe and we ended up finishing 6th. But, at the start of that season, we had a few crowds under 30,000 and attendances were probably worse than this season so far- we were in the bottom 3 in December 03, but by the end of the year our average attendance was 36,500, showing that when performances pick up, people come.

The year after that as well, we had out highest average attendance for 30 years (37,700) and no attendances below 30,000. This was due to a really good finish the year before, which got more S/T holders and the season itself wasn't too bad, finishing 10th.

We'll always have our core 25,000 fans whatever, but the next 5,000 that come down want to see a decent team, preferably against premiership opposition, and the next 5 thousand after that want to see a bit more quality etc etc. Basically, get Villa in the top 6 every year and crowds will knock 40,000 every match, as we managed 37,700 under doug and finishing 10th.

Oh and those swipe cards are crap- they all have 'em. Leeds, Man City, Blackburn, Arsenal, West Brom- they're a right waste of time, they broke down when i went to see Man City- Villa and at Arsenal in August it took ages for them to work. Stick to what we've got now- it works.

  3. General...

Just wondering what position Steve Stride has at the club now- can you tell us if he is likely to be there in the long term future?

And also, the Chief exec, Fitzgerald I think his name is, is he actually in the job now? Just asking because I didn't see his name in the programme under "who's who" at the last few matches.

  4. I'm a Daily mail/ Sun man myself. Can't beat them.

Here's a question- who knows what the best selling paper is in the UK?

Not only is the Sun the best selling paper in the UK, I believe it is also the best selling paper in the world.

Doesn't mean it's quality, though. In fact, I think calling it a newspaper is disrespectful to proper newspapers. Rubbish gossip and half-naked women (if I want porn, I use the internet thanks), populist views and sensationalist "journalism".

The fact that it's the best selling rag out there, speaks volumes of the mothern day consumer. We're after fast information, quick entertainment and catchy headlines. Tragic, really.

I believe the News of the World is the best selling paper in the UK.The Sun is nowhere near the top selling paper in the world. Some Japanese papers sell over 10 million copies on a daily basis

Its the Sun for Daily but News of the world (the sunday version of the Sun) sells even more.

And the Sun is the best selling paper in the English speaking world, so technically Michelsen is right.

  5. Yeah its quite surprising how many Guardian readers there are.

The other villa forums i go on (one's been mentioned already) are very very pro BNP and right wing.

Most of the views on this site are very lefty I think and not to my taste at all, but I think all the views are worthwhile and not many people talk out their behinds.

I'm a Daily mail/ Sun man myself. Can't beat them.

  6. So if I was to do the accountancy route straight from school, I'd be looking at around 5 years to be ACA qualified?

Whereas, if I did Uni first, I'd be looking at around 6 years?

    Cheers for all the advice.

Assuming you pass the exams on schedule that is about right. The only issues with it are the size and location of the firm you wish to work for. I know the one I currently work for do not take school leavers anymore.

Yeah i think its hit and miss in Brum, some do some don't take people on. Think they all prefer graduates but hey.

  8. Out of my group of 4 best school friends I was the only one that left at the end of the fifth form and didn't follow their route to Uni. They all now have dull jobs their very bored with whilst I have a rewarding job and earn nearly twice as much as all of them?

They reckon they did have a great social time at Uni but I think this is a myth as I also had a fantastic social time in the same period at my life and don't feel like I missed out on anything by not going?

My personal opinion is it's a complete waste of time and most grad's I've met haven't got a clue about real business?

Do you mind me asking how old you are?

Just wondering because you sound like you've 'made it' without going to Uni, so wondering if you chose the 'non uni' route years ago or recently.

Thanks for all the advise lads.

    I'm 37 next month.

My first reaction was to say that I haven't 'made it' as such as this sound brash and aloof, which I'm not(at least I hope not?), I just have a fairly well paid job I enjoy that takes me to places I never thought I would go and class as work. When I thought about it, I guess I have 'made it' in the sense that I am happy where I currently am in life but this can mean many different things to different people. :)

By 'made it' I mean you've got a bit of money, you're comfortable, and obviously happy, which is what i want in years to come.

Uni just isn't my thing really- If I do go, it'll probably be because I need it for a specific job, not just to do anything.

Spose it'd help if I knew what i wanted to do really.

  9. Where's the option for "I plan to go to Uni"? :)

Looking to get a master i Political Science, and will commence next fall.

Ah well spotted, just put yourself in the I'm at Uni option.

  11. Just wondering what everyone else did/ doing/ plan to do.

I'm at sixth form at the moment and most of my mates are planning on going, but I don't really fancy it myself.

Would you advise going? Bearing in mind I don't know what I want to do, don't wanna be in debt, but got pretty good GCSE's (A*'s, A's) and will hopefully do ok in my A levels.

To be honest I'm thinking about just getting a job straight from school, Accountancy or similar.

    Cheers.

  12. General Krulak here:

GREAT WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OOOOHHHHRRRRAAAAHHHH!!!! I LOVE IT! MON AND HIS CLARET AND BLUE ARMY WERE SUPERB!!!!!!!!

Why did Randy buy the Club? Well, for one reason...so he could be with you today and watch a good Team, managed by a superb leader, go to someone's home pitch and win!! Randy is a business man but he is also a Sports Fan. He went to school in UK, worked with me in UK, has always loved football...and what better Team to be with than Aston Villa with its tradition and ethos. He is not here to lose money and with his savvy, he won't. BUT, the fact is, he does love the game and he loves Aston Villa. I know it is hard to believe that it can be that simple, but you are dealing with pretty simple people...people who wear their emotions on their sleeves and who love the game and OUR Club. You are just going to have to deal with us crazy Yanks.

    Semper Fidelis, General Krulak

What a great post. What a great result. Things can't be any better for Villa fans at the moment.

  13. Good evening General:

Can you please thank Mr Lerner for paying for our coach travel to Chelsea- couldn't have afforded it without him!

Also, can i ask a question I've been wondering about... What is the board planning to do about ticket prices for the coming seasons? Season tickets, will they go up dramatically?

    Thanks and Welcome.

  14. As no-one answered before I'll ask again...

Are they JUST buying Ellis's shares?

If so, does he get ALL of the £64m??

If cuddly agrees to sell his 33% (c£21m), then they are obliged to extend the same price to all other shareholders.

So £64m is for all 100% of the club, cuddly will get £21m, his family £3m, JP £13m, and me thruppence happeny.

    Thanks mate.

  15. £2.5m for a player that has a scoring rate worse than 1 in 4 is very good I think.

Especially as he only has 1 year left on his contract.

He struggles to get into double figures evey year- Why should he be worth more than £2.5m??
