  1. Can I ask an honest question in the hope of getting an honest answer? What is exactly attractive about the Villa job at this moment in time?

Are you actually flippin serious?!! :x

Engage your brain there for a minute and you will realise that we are in the top 30 biggest clubs in world football both by revenue and wages.

In England we have the 2 Manchester Clubs, 3 London Clubs and Liverpool who are ahead of us.

Outside of England the top 4 in Spain, the top 3 in Germany the top 4-5 in Italy and the top 2-3 in France.

The Villa job is a massive job in club football. We just need our board to sell it right.

But what players have we got Given, Hutton, Dunne, Collins, Warnock, Ireland, Nzogbia, Makoun, Gabby & Bent. The majority of people on here want the back 4 gone so that leaves us with Given, Ireland, Nzogbia, Makoun, Gabby & Bent and a few kids. Ive no doubting that the villa job is a huge job but we are in right trouble of going down at the minute without an overhaul of the squad, we simply have not got the quality we used to have. Its not so long ago we had a back line with Mellberg Laursen Bouma. A midfield with Young Barry Petrov Milner. What have we got at the moment?

Given, Hutton, Dunne, Collins, Warnock, Ireland, Nzogbia, Makoun, Gabby & Bent…….All of these players are internationals and would all pick up contracts at Premiership clubs.

Any decent manager should relish the chance to work with our squad of players. Get the best out of the ones he thinks he can work with best and move the rest of them on.

That's absolute bullshit! You honestly think that another Premiership club would actually pay Villa hard cash for the services of Alan Hutton??? You've been out in the sun way too long today.

  2. what do VT'ers think of Glenn Hoddle being Villa manager? Technically and tactically astute, young-ish, and perhaps looking for that next "big club". Not sure how he well he would control spending etc......

Hoddle is 54. He's older than McLeish. No. Just no.

He's been out of management for a long time. Many vacancies have come and gone at various levels and he's got none of them. There are reasons for that.

As Manager no chance, but as Coach yes definitely, he's a class act

  3. RDM woukd be OK. Turned around Chelsea's failing season & won them the FA Cup & the CL?

Hmmm. Should be good enough even for the "mighty" Villa. :winkold:

Sums it up really, the state we are in we would be lucky to get a manager who has just won the european cup.

But some would rather put a bunch of conjecture on it to criticise what he achieved for some reason. All the more confusing considering the hysteria over solskjaer, a guy who has done nothing in management.

Really don`t understand what di matteo has done wrong to turn people against him.

Its the boring factor if you ask me.

FWIW I totally agree with you but..

RDM, RM, Rafa, PL, KMac etc (albeit some ppl want some of them) - are boring because we are aware of them. There obvious. OGS on the other hand, is totally different so is quite exciting.

The thought that some people (including me) are turning their nose up at two european cup winners, is, when you think about it, ridiculous given the size/state of the club.

And those that scrutinise the way RDM won it - probably dont give it two thoughts that our 1982 win was one of the flukiest in european history.

Errr, there was absolutely nothing flukey about our European Cup win in 82. Villa were already League Champions and became European Super Cup winners not long afterwards. Was that all a fluke?

  4. Why do we think David Moyes is totally out of the question?

RL went for him after O'Neill left, wasnt put off and went for him the next year after Houlier left. Yes everyone says he wont leave Everton. Well I would have agreed with this in the past but i think this summer might be different. Rumors are Everton are trying to get him to sign a new contract. He may be thinking its time for a change as his hands are tied there.

Who knows how much RL might give him to rebuild a shocking villa squad. We are only guessing at talks of 8 million being available. Wouldnt be much of a chairman who would tell OGS this in a first formal chat. We are starting to get the wage bill down O'Neill left us with so who knows.

£8m???? Not even Jesus Christ as the Villa manager could keep us up with the squad we've got, and so little to spend. That MUST be pure speculation or a wind up.

£8m and 50% of players sell on fees was talked about on here last Saturday when OGS went back to Norway. I really hope it was rubbish.

Well if it is then we're doomed already

  5. Quote from OGS tonight:

Solskjær to Nettavisen: Aston Villa wanted to have further discussions, but we decided that this was not the right time

So to me that sounds like he was told he was wanted to be the manager

When Mark Hughes was at Blackburn, he was touted as a possible future Man U manager because he was arguably over achieving at the club. Obviously it all went a little askew after that for him though....

RM is often said to be over achieving at Wigan. OGS would obviously want the Man U job one day, but what is classed as over achieving at Villa? Living in Dubai, I'm surrounded by Lots of different clubs fans and it's amazing how little most of them know about us. Tell them we've scored more points in the PL than Spurs and most will cry foul.

Anyhoo, could it be that the financial constraints will still be pretty strict next season? I was hoping and almost assuming that the purse strings will be loosened, but perhaps not. Looking at the untalented lumps in the squad, is there the possibility that the opportunity to over achieve with us is limited and, the better option would be to wrap up a couple more titles in Norway before moving to England with an even bigger reputation?

I hope that RL realises that not only does he need to make a good appointment, but that chP needs some serious funds to revamp our team.

Let's wait and see what happens tomorrow night, kick off at 6pm, home match (disregard all the handshakes after the match and before) there is more to this than we know. :?:

Care to elaborate on that statement?

  7. Anyone else ever thought it might be because of our own thetrees we don't have OGS as manager? I'd he hadn't told the world Randy's private plans they might have had the time and privacy to do a deal

I think you'll find the leak came from within Molde Fk and photos from Norwegian press of Randy's plane, The trees had **** all to do with it apart from leaking it to us before the media.

That is something that was apparently going around on Twitter earlier.

Perhaps that's the case. I am not sure that the Norwegian media would have picked up on the aircraft arriving.

Stan Collymore has apparently had something to say about it on Twitter also, but that made me feel better, not because he is a vile woman beater, but because maybe we saved from the club entering into a contract with a man whose personal circumstances made his heart lay elsewhere. We have had too many instances in the past of people signing generous contracts and not fulfilling their part of the deal. Collymore's was one of the biggest examples.

    Here here..

  8. It could easily be steve bruce, they hired mcleish, brucies c.v looks world class compared to his.

Mcleish took blues down and they managed to convince themselves he was a good option, do not put bruce past them.

I wouldn't want him within a million miles of VP, but Bruce hasn't done a bad job over the years, and is certainly better than some of the names bandied about.

I agree, i don`t want him either, but i wouldn`t be suprised at all if they went for him if they can`t get lambert or martinez.

Don't think so! He would not fit their criteria. If they cannot get Lambert or Martinez I’d imagine they will approach the likes of M Laudrup, Koeman, Poyet, Zola, Steve Clarke etc.....may even Philip Cocu

I'm not convinced that the Board even know who those managers are..

  9. anyone that has noticed the picture with OGS, the plane and silver merc, that if u see the plane stairs you see a mans lowerbody but someone has edited out the upperbody. very strange. theres nothing hindering the view of his upperbody so it must be photoshopped out. wonder why :?:

Oh please, the pic hasn't been photoshopped. The person coming down the steps of the plane is obscured by the fin of the wing.

I can't believe you think someone in the media changed the picture before releasing it worldwide  Or maybe you think the General used his CIA connections?
