remains to be seen who the mystery 3rd man is then.

Remarkably naive appointment by FSG
you might want to remember you said that. i reckon rodgers will be a big hit up there. he plays football the liverpool way and he will be backed this summer. he might not make an instant impact on the prem table but i reckon in a couple of years tops they'll be playing arsenal style quality football...

We do not have the players to turn around such a run
And you'd have said Wigan did before they did it? I wouldn't have.
Nope but Wigan dont have any bad eggs in their side and want to play for the manager we have players who love to get pissed and don't care what happens to the club
If Martinez were to take control would he be able to do much more than McLeish did in regards to these players. He does not look like the disciplinarian type
MON got the best out of them by giving them loads of time off to get pissed in. not exactly discipline there either, more 1970s clough style man management.
the point with RM for me isn't what he does with dunne and collins and crew. it's the type of performances he could get out of gardner, herd, bannan, albrighton, nzogbia, ireland, lichaj, carruthers, johnson, grealish, stevens, clark, baker...
if he can get them playing at a good level, all of a sudden our squad looks very different and not "weak" as AM has labelled them.

I think that most people appreciate the info posted by the likes of MM,Gazton,Julie B & trees, I hope they continue to contribute on here.
absolutely, valued more than the noise on twitter for me! only reason i keep coming back here to be honest is from finding out a few things first on here via those sources.
otherwise, 90% of the posts on here would have you reaching for the razor blades whilst running a hot bath...

Ah the guy that said OGS was our new manager. Done and dusted. Then he deleted the tweet.
I think we need to accept that OGS had a change of heart. Anyone who had ITK on him had good reason to. I don't take OGS's last minute change as being any proof that the more trusted ITKers are full of bull.
How can anyone have ITK that it is a done deal. How can it be, if no contract was signed?
I accept OGS was probably our 1st choice and I believe he was probably offered the job. It is the "done" bit I query.
Well he did state that if Villa make him an offer then he will leave.
If the ITK then got intel that we were going to make it offer, people would then assume it's a done deal.
to be fair i could assume given "intel" by someone that the world is a giant pie floating in a sea of HP sauce. i woudl still be wrong.

We have got more of a chance of getting AVB than we do OGS.
OGS wanted to come and we stalled.
AVB i doubt would want to come to villa. love to be wrong, but i can't see it somehow.
-
reports over here are that all that is missing is signature and it's a done deal for zeman, didn't know AVB was over here!
avb would be more suited to a job in italy i think though at the moment and then go for a crack at the big time again after getting his stock back up. he could try and do that with us but he wouldn't have the resources or squad that he'd have had with roma so would be a lot more difficult. then again if he got us top 6 and playing decent footy he'd be in demand again from the big names.
we really need our own zeman though! someone a bit enigmatic and mad, who plays crazy entertaining football we'd fill VP every week!
-
well, the man i really wanted (never would have happened) zeman, is off to roma in a few hours it seems.
in a way it's good they are taking their time with this, although if they'd have struck quickly i think we'd have got OGS, because hopefully they are soreading their net a bit wider and making sure we get the right man.
at least i hope that's true!
-
re: OGS, yup it is odd that he basically said "come and get me" and we played it cool because we were speaking to other candidates. would really like to know who they are.
-
Glenn Hoddle is today's mover then
Christ, what must have Villa fans been in a previous life??
ahahah.
not keen on hoddle, it's not the 90s anymore.
-
For me it's now between Martinez and Lambert. Out of the two I think Lambert is the most lightly. Randy needs to be in the faces of these guys making something happen.
lambert firmly stating he is staying put and martinez who is in talks with liverpool?
-
You know we might all be missing the obvious on this one, particularly after events of the last couple of days.
very cryptic! what would the obvious be?
-
Domingos Paciencia is interesting!
AVB, no way would he want it. luis-enriquez. hmmm. plays a nice brand of football, totally mentally lost it though trying to handle a difficult set of players at roma. resigned saying he was too exhausted to carry on. not sure if he'd be up for villa to be honest and wants a break from football.
-
really hard to tell who they are going to go for now.
young, enthusiastic and vibrant.
out of your list MM that woudl appear to rule out...
Ranieri
Hoddle
KMac
Bielsa
..for age.
then a few more for vibrancy...
Southgate
Grayson
Bradley
Clarke
then Lambert says not going anywhere, Martinez turned us down last year and in talks with liverpool.
doesn't seem to be a lot left!
zola would get us playing possession football and with steve clark be a good pair but wouldn't go down too well with the fans because of his record as a manager.
OGS has ruled himself out after no offer from teh club when he'd basically asked to be given the job.
young and vibrant and italian, there's devis mangia. sacked at palermo last year who started pretty well and is still young. not sure where he is now! there's walter mazzari who's 50 but has just won the cup with napoli and more than likely wouldn't be interested.
bilic? wouldn't be able to have much of a preseason as will be at the euros.
deschamps? very doubtfull.
blanc? ditto.
who the f*ck is this young and vibrant manager?
-
The names being mentioned really are a bag of uninspiring dross.
condiering you have badmouthed every manager or link since Houllier who do you think should be manager?
Every manager since Houllier has been Alex McLeish - I'm sure you were very supportive of the appointment, his work as an Aston Villa manager and the fruits of his labour.
OR LINK
to be fair i've never seen a Pilchard comment that wasn't along the lines of "oh no, bollocks, rubbish, idiots, dross, crap pathetic"
so, who would Mr Pilchard have as managaer of AVFC?
-
big shame, seems like we didn't move heaven and earth quick enough to get him. he was making all the right noises and if we'd have gone for him we'd have got him.
soooo, who is this young, vibrant and enthusiastic manager that the board have passed up on solskjaer for?
-
Oh FFS what is this Defeatists Anonymous?
you win
hopefully OGS is doing the decent thing and telling Rokke that he wants to go face to face....
...the where is faulkner question is the one to solve to know what is going on surely?
if faulkner is in norway, then you'd have to think it was a done deal.

Can some betfair Whizz explain this to me, if I had €10 at 34.0 on OGS & then laid of the max possible at 1.3 would Id be able to take 1133 on him not getting the job yes? Then when he went back out to 1.85 back the max possible on him again what would my overall profit be was he to get the job?
you can work out your position on the site if i remember right. at least you used to (can't see it anymore as i'm in italy). if not google "arbitrage betting calculator" and you should get a load of stuff to help you out.
basically back high odds and laying at low odds means you lock in a profit, regardless of outcome.

real men don't count calories, they eat them.

dont get the headline, is it a pun I am missing?
champs league final 99
-
i think the fifa 2012 thing is being blown out of proportion a bit. depends how he uses it and what for. if he uses it as the be all and end all instead of actually doing some research then it's a problem.
i doubt that though, he prob uses it to illustrate his points to the players, in which case it's a good tool i would think.
-
has someone had a word with you thetrees? have you had your wrists slapped? shame if so, you should be free to say what you see out of your window in your own time on a free footie forum surely?
-
just for the **** of it OGS, could be an inspired choice. lambert as second prize is a very good second prize though imho.
General Next Manager Topic?? (everything other than Lambert)
in Villa Talk
Posted
why the hoofball talk?
lambert can play direct footy like MON, but direct doesn't mean route one. having a target man doesn't mean long ball either. look at how chelsea used drogba for years, or ibra in italy.
lambert won the EC as an important member of a technical footballing side, did his coaching badges in germany, you think his only way of playing is to clog it? really?
the comment abotu us not having the players to do anythign else is just plain wrong as well. yeah collins isn't a cultured european style technical CB. so the **** what. we have clark and baker. a decent manager with an appreciation of decent football would be able to put a side together with our current squad that would play better football and get a lot better results than the shite we were served up last season.
give that same man some backing and who knows
lambert wasn't my number one choice, but i'm not picking and lambert is by no means a one dimensional hoof it and hope coach.
