  1. He’s fine for now Cashy but there are elements of his game that really need to improve. If he doesn’t improve them, he will get replaced in the next year or so. The same could be said for Targett too.

Just wanted to flag up this post from @M_Afro in the pre match post. Have to copy it as can’t quote from a different locked thread. It inspired me to have a very rare bet. Went for 2-1 with Watkins and Buendia any time goal scorers. On another day what could have been! Couldn’t be happier to have lost my money! Hope you won a couple of quid mate. UTV!

It’s my son’s seventh birthday on Sunday. He was born in Leicester on a weekend where we actually played Leicester at Villa Park. We went one down and all the nurses were giving me stick because I had bought my son a villa baby grow and they were all Leicester supporters. We can back to win 2-1!
That’s gotta be a good Omen. Get your money on 2-1 Villans. UTV

Ha ha. That’s so unlucky mate. In all the excitement of my boys birthday I forgot to take my own advice and make the bet. I did have to pop out and pick up a takeaway though and ended up watching the last 10 minutes in a local pub surrounded by Leicester fans. It was most enjoyable!

  3. Have they changed the clear and obvious element of using VAR to overturn a decision? There’s no way you can say that it’s a clear and obvious mistake. It’s way too subjective. It’s also a decision that should not be decided on a freeze frame. They should have played it in real time.

Having said that, we have been poor. Big improvement needed in the second half or we will lose this.

No it’s not… it’s sensible for a team that supposedly aiming for the top ten, top eight…to have two quality strikers on the books, I don’t think that is recklessly extravagant re the “profligate” you are saying.  It’s almost less risky given the options Ings gives us, the goals he will score, already scored, the pressure he will put on Ollie to keep at such a high level and also if Ollie is injured.  He could help us nick higher league placing or a further run in the cup and all the money that brings.  Villa fans have got to stop thinking small time that we can only have 11 players.

Nobody is thinking that Nick. Spin it like that to suit your narrative if you like but it’s not representative of the reality

  5. I have just watched a YouTube video of his best Villa saves. What a keeper. He’s the best I have seen in a villa shirt and he’s certainly earned his corn over the past 18 months! He just seems to get us as well. He loves us and we love him! He’s worthy of a new contract in my view.

Honestly it shows how small time some of our thinking has become with this idea that we can’t have two good strikers at the club.

Look at the side Man City put out and the names on their bench during their “injury crisis”. That’s ultimately the level we’re aiming to get to.

Man City can afford to carry these players because their income is so much greater than ours. We have to be smarter with our expenditure otherwise we will fall foul of FFP. We have to box clever. I’m sure we would all love to keep Danny Ings around just in case but can we really afford to be so profligate? It’s not small time, it’s sensible.

This is his time to shine.
I'd go with Ramsey, Luiz and McGinn against Leicester with a view to giving him another 30 minutes. Same goes for the Liverpool match and then I'd expect him to be starting, or certainly fit enough to start against Norwich.

It's still too early to tell, but I think he'll be a decent player for us if we can keep him match fit.

Surely you can’t drop Marv. He has been superb and is key to our upturn in form. I would go for the same three as Wednesday to start. Great to have some options though!

  8. I think we should keep Chuk in the 10 role. He is perfect for the position. He also brings a bit more control and physicality to our team, more so than our other 10’s. He may well develop into a great 8 but for now, if we are going to get him minutes, it should be as a 10. If he can get a goal I think we will see him really progress quickly.

Bailey is a crock too, always getting injured and his performance against Everton aside he's done f all since he's joined us. Same with Buendia who once again has been shite.

Buendia has actually done some good things but he then messes it up by being incredibly sloppy. So frustrating

I was all for this last summer, but wonder now if that’s the role Ireogbunam will take over. Think there’s only 18 months or so between them, but agree he’s a very good option if young Tim doesn’t make it.

I didn’t realise they were so close in age. It looks as though Tim is 2.5 years younger. Maybe have Doucoure for a couple of years with Tim as the successor. Then hopefully sell Doucoure at a large profit.

  11. I hope we may renew our interest in Cheik Doucoure. He is exactly what we need to play six. He is so good at winning the ball back, he’s physical but he can also play. Still young too. If we could sign him and McKennie the energy in our midfield would double instantly.

Well he was arrested on suspiscion of sexual assault. Investigation ongoing.

Maybe not as bad as a rapist / nonce but not good either.

Was it definitely sexual assault? I would be very surprised that Brighton are still picking him if that’s the alleged offence

Play him upfront when we need to. I cannot get my head around people thinking we LITERALLY CANNOT have more than 1 good striker. It's utterly bizarre

Having more than 1 good striker when your midfield is poor is the point though. Why spend £25m on a bloke who you don’t need as much as a couple of centre mids! It’s literally not that difficult to understand!

There are some bizarre comments on here.

We sign one of the most clinical strikers in the Premier League and its a panic/poor/confusing buy. Get a grip people.

Where would you play him and what would that mean for Ollie? I can only speak for myself but my view is you can only play one of them. Our need is much greater elsewhere and thus that is why I am confused by his signing.

Offload him? Is this a joke?

Why don't we start delivering him some service so we can get the best out of him?

It's been a tough start to the season, the team have been out of form, pre-season was all over the place, we've had a change of manager and Ings has missed some games due to injury. A bit of stability at the club, and a change of playing style to get the best out of him and we'll see Ings bagging goals like he did for Southampton.

Not a joke at all. I am 100% serious. I am certain that we can only play either him or Ollie. Ollie has a better all round game to play that lone striker role. Therefore Ings is back up. I doubt he will want that. We should cash in whilst we can still recover our outlay.

It’s nothing against him. I just don’t think his game suits a 4-3-3 unless he is the CF. It’s the same for Ollie. They can’t both play there.

  16. It’s interesting that Gerrard chose to say that about Sanson. It felt a little bit political but it could just be totally innocent. Until this guy plays a number of games consecutively and plays well, the conspiracy theories will continue. Hopefully he will put them to bed soon by proving his worth on the pitch.

  17. Ollie looks like a player who has totally lost all of his confidence. It’s painful to watch him sometimes as you can see him over thinking everything, rather than just naturally playing his game. Hopefully the goal will do him good. He is a good player when he is on form.

He has to play down the middle though. I know that he tends to drift into the left channel a lot but that is different to playing as a dedicated left forward. He is not good enough. His goal was actually a good example of this. He played with his head down and never looked up once. His whole focus was getting into a position to get his shot away, which of course he did do brilliantly but if we are being hypocritical he should have passed to Bailey who would have had a simple tap in. He is technically not good enough to play as a left forward and he doesn’t have the intelligence to play there either. He is what he is which is a hard working, nuisance of a nine who will score goals if he gets enough chances.

We need to let him play down the middle and make sure that whatever we do behind him is dedicated to getting the best out of him. Where that leaves Ings, who knows. I would happily sell him and replace him with a Young up and coming player who is happy to play back up to Ollie.
