  1. Who ever thought Tony Barton would win the European Cup? Don't think Europe quaked in its boots on his appointment as Saunders successor. Probably just as well we didn't have Internet forums back then!

    ;)

We also didnt have Billionaire owners with unlimited cash that could turn mediocre, nothing clubs into one of the most famous sides in world football inside a couple of years and tempt any world-class player to join with astronomical wages.

  2. It's actually hilarious that we would turn down a manager who won a club its first ever trophy and then won another club in another country its first ever league title over a manager who got promoted from the third tier of English football and little else.

I'm far from saying I wanted McClaren, but to choose Martinez over him is a total farce. I'm embarrassed that we are even linked with him.

Dreams of Ancelotti last week have turned into fear and dread. **** football, dearly me.

  3. If we appoint Roberto Martinez then we may as well face the fact that we are nothing more than a glorified feeder club with absolutely no ambition whatsoever.

We may as well appoint Phil Brown, Alan Curbishley or Chris Hughton.

  4. Fans who wouldn't be completely over the moon and ecstatic if we got Ancelotti are strange.

Fans who don't want Ancelotti should be sectioned.

just because you say it doesn't make it true.

Of course not but I would love to hear people try and talk away potentially the most successful and experienced manager this club would ever have had. To me its insane.

  5. Im still thinking its Hughes.

I dont believe in coincedence. Hughes resignation a day after signing an extension to his contract?

If we were to acknowledge any type of interest in him, then im pretty sure we will end up in the dock for tapping up. There is no way, we are going to admit it.

Therefore, im predicting no movement until July 1st. When hes free to take the job.

In the meantime, he will be looking at the squad, identifying where we need strengthening, and mulling over transfer targets, so when he does take up the reigns, he will do running.

    exactly my thoughts as well.

I dont buy that at all. There is no way we will wait a month to appoint a manager.

Why not? It didn't stop the board taking a whole month looking for a manager while we was in a season getting trashed by promoted Newcastle and getting knocked out by Rapid Vienna in our park.

Not to mention when they hired houllier he couldn't take over straight away either and there was weeks of him having to work notice in his old job as well.

The board do have form for this ;)

We haven't got a first choice keeper, 2 of our best players want out, we've released several players and have just had a mediocre season. Now is not the time to have players twiddling their thumbs on the training ground with no manager with their agents in one ear and players from other clubs tapping them up in the other.

We must act now and Randy knows this.

  7. I also worry about what interest he'd have in the youth side of things. Thats the only way our club will ever become big again. By nuturing our own

Tell me what clubs have built their squads and success on nurturing their own players though in the last 10 years? United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs and Man City have all expensively assembled squads with a handful of quality youth team players between them. To get big you need a shedload of cash and a good manager.

If we get Ancelotti, then we have one part of the equation.

  8. I hope we don't get Ancelotti. I've a feeling he'll come in, neglect the youths, fill the team up with pension age Italians, play turgid football and ultimately leave the club with a big bill and a bit of a mess.

I sort of feel the same way. Im just not convinced by him.

It must be all those Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup medals, vast experience with World Class players, clubs and facilities.

    I'm not convinced either.
