  1. I don't want to bring all this up again as we had a full summer of it but Houllier had a blue-print and was building something and was finding out the trouble causers, the lazy ones who didn't care etc

Now when people say they didn't want him and now they are saying they don't want Mcleish it makes it look like we are the problem especially as many didn't want MON either. Like Barry Fry said: Who do they want?

A healthy Houllier would have been great for this club. For me those who deny this lack footballing knowledge and I can't take their opinion seriously.

Dream on. He disrespected the club and the fans from day one and his comments were so contradictory it was laughable.

Those lazy ones you refer to such as Dunne and Warnock have arguably been 2 of our better performers this season.

Houllier was a footballing dinosaur and for you to call loyal season ticket holders who stumped up hard earned cash year on year morons because they didn't buy into his outdated philosophy is nothing short of appalling.

The morons I tag as those who seemingly don't want any manager including MON. Every club have them, even us. I wouldn't go as far to say those who didn't want Houllier are morons, but I would say they lack footballing knowledge most certainly.

    How very condescending of you

  2. I'll take Mcleish with gabby over houllier and gabby being sold.

I'd take a winning team without Gabby over a mediocre team with Gabby :winkold:

Was that the team that won the last 2 games without Houllier pitch side?

Or are you referring to the losing team that was perilously close to relegation when he was pitch side?

  4. 64% say no.

Bloody hell we're a third into the season.

what if we win the FA Cup and finish 4th?

How can people possibly say no??

    Are you for real?

    The point stands.

To say in DEC you wont renew due to 'the football' is idiotic.

Yes we're a third of the way into the season and it's absolutely dire.

Tell me why you think it will get better given his track record?

4th place and win the FA Cup - welcome back General.....

  5. His quality has never been in doubt for me, i wish others would judge him on his current form rather than what happened last season. A lot of what was written about him appeared to be largely based on rumour and hearsay. Unlike some he's rarely resorted to the hoof ball although he's still prone to the odd mistake.

  6. For me he's drinking in the last chance saloon however I'd like to see Lerner stay. I think he's done more positive things than bad so I'll give him the benefit of doubt and point the finger at those who are advising him ie Faulkner.

I can't see anyone buying us in the near future so I think he's here for the short/medium term but I'd have a little more optimism if Faulkner and McLeish were handed their P45's.

  7. Big NO for me!

I was all for giving McLeish a chance to prove me wrong and hoped that he could, but it all depended upon him changing his previous playing style. The fact that he managed the Bluenoses didn't matter at all to me and I mean that. Let's face it, if he had got them a top 10 finish and a cup win last season, whilst playing attractive football and making good signings, not many of us would have been concerned about his appointment.

The fact that he relegated the noses twice, managed Rangers to 3rd place in a two horse race, made some really poor signings - Zigic, Ridgewell, Davies, Jerome etc - played really negative, dull and defensive football, all added up to a very poor choice of manager for Randy Lerner to make.

I will say one thing in defence of McLeish. I think that you could throw any other manager in the world into our football club and he will still struggle to get us keeping the ball out of our net. I would say that McLeish realises more than anyone how bad our defenders are and that is the reason he is trying to give them as much extra cover as possible. However, that is also is biggest flaw because surely the best thing to do in that situation is to play to our biggest strength, which is our attacking play! I was going to quote Jeremy Clarkson and say that our defenders should all be shot but let's face it, the bullets would miss them all. Those defenders of ours don't get in the way of anything!

Houllier wanted us to play to our strengths last season and had two very good wingers available to him to do so but McLeish does not have this luxury. But, playing Heskey on the wing or in the hole when there are far better players at the club to do so is also a poor showing from him and shows up his lack of competence as a manager in the Premier league. He has a jewel in Bent but seems determined not to play to his strengths for some reason.

I think we can all appreciate Randy's decision to watch the bank balance and the wage bill but to do so whilst having McLeish in charge is just too much for us to take as fans. If we had a manager in charge who tried his very best to get us playing some attractive football then we could probably live with the cut-backs a whole lot more, even if results were not always as expected. But, to see our stars leave and then have to endure the poorest management style ever, well, that is just too much to sit back and watch.

I think the only way we can try to make Randy take real notice is to threaten to stay away. There are 20,000+ of us season ticket holders who have already parted with our hard-earned cash to watch this season unfold. Not too many of those 20,000+ will want to have paid that amount of money and then stay away, especially with the current economic climate. However, I propose that all of us season ticket holders who are against McLeish - together with as many fans who attend random matches - all write to the club, maybe addressing the letter/email to Paul Faulkner or/and Randy himself, expressing our anger and feelings at McLeish and the performance of the team under his management style.

I am going to send my email after the 19th game has been played. Then we will have seen half a season under Mcleish's management. I am going to write to the club stating that, if they fail to employ a new manager by the start of next season, they will have lost me as a season ticket holder, together with my Dad and Brother who feel exactly the same as I do. The three of us are that disappointed with the quality of football that we are seeing that we all feel like we cannot get excited for the upcoming Villa games, which is a bloody terrible state to find yourself in as a lifelong fan of your local club.

I want to go to see my Aston Villa try to win football games, not try to lose by as few as possible! I have had enough of seeing McLeish's boring, defensive, dull, negative, non-imaginative style of, well, I was going to say football but it isn't, is it?

    UP THE VILLA!

I'm all up for the non renewal of season tickets as a genuine expression of concern. I travel with three other season ticket holders and on the way up to the game we had all pretty much decided not to renew if McLeish is still in charge next season. I will admit when I saw the team sheet I had a little flicker of hope, but the performance was the same old same old and we left in the same opinion as we arrived. I don't think I would watch this team on the TV never mind pay for a season ticket. I've had a season ticket for some 25 years and we have all been going as a group for the whole time so this is not a decision taken lightly. We have decided that we would be better just going out for a meal and a drink and rely on each others company for the entertainment.

Pretty much sums it all up fro me. After 40 years of being a season ticket holder, i won't renew my 3 tickets if McLeish and Faulkner are anywhere near VP next season.

  8. Be interesting to see if Mcleish shares the view of Faulkner. I very much doubt it and I very much doubt he will appreciate Faulkner coming out with unrealistic bollocks.

Very true. Given the word from the club at the time of the appointment/before the season that we were still aiming to reduce the wage bill and hence meet the forthcoming UEFA wages/revenue guidelines etc, this really is baffling from Faulkner. Can't make up my mind as to whether he is extremely naive and thinks his statement will appease some of our support or is simply an absolute moron who has no idea what is going on.

    The latter.......

  9. Id like to think that we have enough intelligence within our manager and scouting network to be able to sign a defender who isn't a complete **** disaster - yes. Hutton wasn't THAT bad, Warnock was terrible, Collins even worse. Still - all shit.

    Step forward Mr Ridgewell....

Hutton was truly dire, as was Collins. Warnock done ok for me, at least positionally he knows where to play which is something Collins and Hutton can't be accused of.

My sunday team are better defensively than those 2. I hope when I rock up on sunday those 2 aren't amongst the team sheet.

  10. That was terrible tonight- I had no frigging idea what we were doing tactically? What, what was the plan? Did Bent even play? Did we have a midfield? Bloody terrible and I feel sorry for our representatives who went to watch that. Poor them.

Bring on January - we need players, more specifically-defenders.

But do you trust his ability in the transfer market? I was willing to give him a chance but Hutton is truly dreadful and his continued selection of Collins ahead of Clark is mystifying.

Unfortunately for me I can't get excited about January although I hope I'm wrong.

  11. Yet another defensive master class from Collins first half. Can't wait for his second half performance. The guy is clueless and how he's keeping Clark out of the side is a mystery to me. His positional acumen is non existent. A modern day Steve Sims.

With him and Hutton in the team it's like having 9 players on the pitch.

  12. FWIW - I still think Randy could be a decent owner for us. However we need a football bloke at CEO level - or at least someone more enterprising than faulkner.

Agree with this. IMHO a lot of what's bad at Villa is down to Faulkner and a lot of what is good at Villa is down to Randy.

  13. no desire makes u laff. there goal come from nzogbia losing the ball hutton being out of position. Warnock was more at fault than anyone on the pitch. Out of position let his man have an easy header at the back post. Too many people jump on the band wagon to have a go at ireland. What about when he ran the whole length of the pitch but nzogbia never passed him the ball. If he did pass him the ball and he scores does he go from having no desire to having lots of desire.

    Absolutely this.

The trouble is, I really can't see Ireland winning over the doubters at Villa now unless he starts scoring a hattrick every other game while getting back for a few goal-line clearances/Bobby Moore style saving tackles at the other end. Just putting in good solid 7/10 performances with some nice passing and movement isn't going to cut it, sadly.

Spot on guys. 100% agree. Sadly because there are so many that want to criticise him at every opportunity I doubt we will see the best of him in a Villa shirt.

  14. He's behind Weimann in the pecking order so my money's on him leaving

    who says he's behind weimann?

McLeish won't let Weimann go back out on loan but is happy to send Fonz out.

    how do you know?

From a very good source. I don't want to say who mentioned it to me for obvious reasons

  15. His mistakes have been crucially poor

    1. Allow MON to run the shop

    2. Appointment of Faulkner

    3. Ditto GED

    4. Ditto Eck

A catalogue of very poor decisions

Agree 100%. Randy is a nice guy and no doubt well meaning but when it really matters his judgement is flawed.

  16. I actually feel sorry to Eck. I think he is a genuine, good man who seems to be really PROUD to be managing us and I am behind him and think he should be given a fair chance. I do feel he has been dealt a marked card though and I am now starting to think that maybe it would be best if he did go, sooner rather than later, because there are a certain section of Villa fans that will NEVER accept him and maybe we should try and get a manager who we can all get behind? (Would that ever happen??) I just feel it's all a great, great shame.

I agree with a lot of the above, IMO he's a far more honest and respectful manager than Houllier was. Having said that, I never wanted either manager at Villa but he deserves a chance for his honesty alone.
