The back four, which not were the same back four all the time, Hutton, Collins, Dunne and Warnock, gets lot off critism for the result of last season. Villa conceded 53 goals an avarege of 1,39 goals per game. That makes us number 13 in the leauge. We just made 39 goals, 0,97 per game and number 19 in the leauge.

The most common results were 0-0 and 1-1. We hade a clean sheet in 24% of the games (Norwich 8%).

We conceded more then 2 goals in 4 games, Man city 1-4 (away Hutton, Dunne, Clarke Warnock)m Man united 0-4 (away Hutton, Collins, Baker, Lichaj), Arsenal 0-3 (away Hutton, Collins, Cuellar, Warnock) and Chelsea 2-4 (home Lichaj, Collins, Baker, Warnock).

So I think it is hash to blame the back four as much as many do. The big problem was that we scored to little goals.

Hutton, Collins, Dunne and Warnock are not worldbeaters, but I think they deserve more credit then they got

Not that I like Dunne or Collins (Or Warnock).

But they are not the worst defenders you could find.

Seconded, however replacing Collins with Clark and Hutton with Lichaj or Lowton would be a massive improvement.

That s interesting. This time last year I rated Clark as the most likley to have an impact. It didn't happen for him. He seems to have had a terrible run with injuries - and for that reason I wouldn't gamble on him being the preferred centre half next season.

I always thought that you need experience at CB - so would have thought Lambo would probably keep one of Dunne and Collins - preferably Dunne. I wonder if Lambo will sign a £1 - £2m rated CB - and leave him and Clark to fight it out for the first team place.

We shall see.

Great point. I've always thought Clark would benefit from a season or two playing alongside an experienced player and out of the two of them Dunne would be my preference over Collins. Granted Dunne can be rash but he's a better option than Collins.

As we appear to be heading into the season with at least one if not two new players in the back 4 then I think we will need the experience of Dunne in the short term whilst the new faces gel.

IMO Clark is a genuine talent and hopefully he will cement his place in the team this coming season.

Wasn't trying to point score, your comment about the away shirt being so awful stuck out at the time as you were very outspoken in your views.

Sometimes your posts are well constructed and balanced, however alot of the time you appear quick to dismiss the opinions of other posters in a curt and abrupt manner. I'm not sure if you intend to appear to be outspoken or not but it does come across like that at times. It's not meant as a criticism more an observation.

I actually thought the devil-child, not-to be mentioned, etc., McLeish actually got Ireland and Warnock playing OK by the end of last season - Ireland in particular.

Ireland should certainly be given a chance to show what he can do under a proper manager.

Agree 100%. Gabby looked totally disinterested from Christmas onwards whereas Ireland grew in confidence and work rate.

Are you saying that anyone who plays badly is unprofessional? If so then the same could be labelled against almost every player at one stage or another last season.

Don't get me wrong - I think there's better RBs - he was a McLeish player.

When I was at Spuds game at VP towards end of season - I thought Hutton actually was one of our better players that day till he got crocked.

Agree with you JulieB, I'm no Hutton fan but on occasion last season he was ok and at least put some effort in unlike one or two others.

Having attended 90% of last seasons games I thought Warnock had a good end to the season, especially when we were knee deep in the mire. But he like Hutton will never receive any credit from a section of fans when it is merited.

A mate of mine was staying at the same complex as Hutton in Dubai 3 weeks ago. Hutton was still wearing the protective boot round his ankle so maybe he was in the treatment room rather than out on the turf yesterday?

I don't think Guzan is going to be good enough to be first choice for us - he's never fully convinced me that he's capable of developing into a top drawer keeper.
