Signing someone like Cahill does not fill that criteria.

Only problem is this makes us week defensively. 

Can someone explain why Bruce is starting the job in February but not say now?

Actually this summer will be huge for them. Willian, Pedro, Cahill, and Luiz will all be in the mid to early 30s. Lots of pieces they need to replace.

Pulisic is a good start, and they should be playing Odoi, but I think they will need a top center back, top CM, and world class striker. 

Elphick is a good center back. I hope we give him another year especially with Smith in charge. We are not going to find a better back up/potential starter next season. Plus he is a leader. 

Sell if someone comes in. Kodjia is 29, and isn't getting any better. 

But if it's only a loan, there is no point. 

Tshibola is playing well, but it's still Scotland. Don't think he would have any positive impact here at this time.

It's best to let him continue to play well there, and reassess in the summer. 

Why have we not cancelled his loan? Do we have to pay a loan cancellation fee?

Even with Nyland hurt, we have Kalinic, Steer, and Bunn. Moreira is comfortably our 4th keeper right now.

He is our version of Rodwell. I really don't know how he can sign for any club after leaving us. 

Bruce even admitted he can't play anymore. It's not like he was even good when he was able to play.

What is his best position? For iceland he plays left mid and does alright for them. Last season he play DM with Conor and did okay.

Any player (not just Connor) on the ball needs an option or multiple options to pass too. I thought just before Christmas we were starting to show a real authority in matches because of our movement and wilingess to get on the ball.

This was not just Jack though....so what has gone wrong?

Fatigue, and lack of squad depth. 

Our midfield depth is just Conor, McGinn, Whelan, and Thor. We always play with 3 Center mids, so a congested december and January meant they were playing a lot of minutes. 

Our defense is even thinner. Chester has played ever single minute in the league, and Axel is hurt. Now we have Elphick and Hause, but before then, it was Bree back there.

Out of position players, lack of depth, and a congested schedule have ruined our form. 

I'd rather go back to the 5-5 matches rather than zero goals scored in the last two.

I read that, but surely that can't happen. Micah hasn't even played a game in 2.5 seasons. He can't even train with the team because of his injuries. He is a glorified gym trainer at the moment. 

He doesn't suit Smith's style of a DM. Smith likes to press. Whelan is slow, and can't pass under pressure. Thor at least works a little bit more, but Smith doesn't have a DM that he can count on.

I think that is why Smith recalled Lyden. He was likely hoping Lyden could fill that role.
