  1. Keep Albion up? I'm a huge advocate for West Midlands football. Was gutted about Wolves as well.

What's the point of a rivalry if you can't play them and beat them?

Because if you are Wank Brom & we are in the Championshit they will try & claim that they are the bigger club when we all know in reality that they are shit.

It's also for that reason that they would be more than happy to help send us down.

  2.

Said this in the PL thread, but I'll think we'll be fine because I can't see Norwich getting to 40.

They might put  40 past Wank Brom next week.

West Brom did enough to win yesterday. It was sheer luck that Wigan did.

Simply don't trust Wank Brom. They weren't out of luck when they beat Liverpool at Anfield a couple of weeks back I noticed. One of the jammiest wins i've ever seen.

They won't turn up at Norwich next week either because they want us down. (Forget about all that bullshit being spouted by Steve Clarke about competition being healthy for WM football.........................My Arse!

Imagine the situation in reverse. Would you want Villa to do all they could to keep Albion in the Prem?

I know what my answer would be!

  3. Said this in the PL thread, but I'll think we'll be fine because I can't see Norwich getting to 40.

They might put  40 past Wank Brom next week.

  4. I think the Gabster is now at his peak. There was a rumour a couple of season's back that Wenger was going to sign him for £15m & Mon was also reportedly interested in taking him to scumberland for the same figure before swooping for Fletcher from Wolves.

So glad Gabby is still here because he is Villa through & through & his best years are still undoubtedly ahead of him & with him Benteke & Weimann we may potentially have a more prolific front 3 than in 1977 with Andy Gray, Brian Little & John Deehan. Really hope this is so.

  5. How can so many people be trolled for so long  .

Thanks Keyblade - The best way to sum up this thread is Eat Shit for breakfast, after all 20 million flys can't be wrong can they!

& in the words of Duncan Bannatyne - For that reason I am out!

  6. If we stay up or go down I'm very much looking forward to next season.

If we go down into the Championshit I will hate every second of next season. We have had to write off the last 3 seasons & I don't want to write off next seasons already come May 19th.

With the new finance deal looming this would be the worst season ever to be relegated & would set this club back 10 years minimum.

This is why you can't relax currently.

I hate this relegation nightmare because it leaves me constantly on edge & unable to relax & as  earlier posters mentioned feeling physically sick when Stoke & Norwich pegged us back to 1-1 in recent games that we should have been out of sight in.

This is what loving the Villa does to you.

  7.

If we get 0 points from next 2 (Quite possible):

Norwich need 1 win to finish above us - They can get there at home to Baggies

Newcastle need 1 win - Capable of beating both QPR and Arsenal though 2 draws would probably put them on a better GD and equal points.

Sunderland need 1 win - Home to Stoke or Southampton

Southampton need 1 win - Home to Stoke

Wigan need 2 wins - Us and Swansea. Though we know they are capable of Arsenal.

Quite a negative slant o it, but like I say, 40/1 is stupid.

1/200 to avoid relegation. All the above is v possible and dont clash with one another.

All of those need to happen, even if just one doesn't we stay up.

Problem is, many posters believe the probability of the above to happen would be a miracle! ( Bookies included)

In truth it would actually only be a `minor miracle` for the above to happen so I for one am still extremely nervous.

Also, if the worst comes to the worst some clearing in the woods at William Hills will be collecting his/her p45.

  8.

Are people still worried because we've been down there all season? I don't understand the worry! We don't need to rely on Wigan losing anymore.

The worry is quite simple & justified by the following.

"We are not safe yet & Woodytom has highlighted a highly probable set of results that could still send us down"

I won't be getting any sleep again tonight worrying. Fact!....Nervous or what!

Well I think think that set of results with Villa getting 0 points is pretty improbable

I hope & pray that you are right!

  9. Have always loved the Gabster. How many times has he sent the sha in breds packin? I just love it when we have a true member of the Holte-End that turns out to be actually good enough to go & play his heart out for his boyhood club & the supporters.

Gabby is a true, true Villa legend & I;m so pleased he holds our Premiership goalscoring record. No one deserves it more.

Pity he was unavailable against Fulham recently because I'm certain he would have made the difference that day with his pace & power & eye for a goal.

I could never ever knock Gabby & like many posters confirm he does loads & loads of charity work too & really does care.not just on the field but off it too.

This scenario is the terrifying truth & it is certainly not beyond the realms of possibility & still leave's me feeling desperate.

I hate Wigan because they always pull it off & you just know for absolute certainty That Wank Brom will lose to Norwich next week.

Also, I wished we didn't have to play early next week because a defeat will give massive incentive to all those teams & make the above scenario even more highly likely.

It's never over until it's mathematically over. Fact!

  12.

Tbf, every time we win shouldn't be a trigger to bash one of our players. What does it say about us as fans, that every time we win a game we bash a product of our own youth academy for the simple reason that he wasn't playing. I think we should talk about him when he next plays a game.

    Which will hopefully be never

    Seconded!

  13.

Your opinions sail into a hurricane facts suggesting the opposite is true.

Not just one fact. Lots of them pointing the same way, which adds to credibility of a positive interpretation of Bannan's play for us this season.

    Exceptional
    * Crossing
    * Set pieces
    * Key passes
    * High points per game ratio (was highest)

I can't 100% guarantee I'm right - this is where opinion comes in - but the probability's all these separate pieces of evidence add up to a great player who needs more game time.

That is why it's not whether "we" want to sell him - we want to keep someone who can pull these numbers - it's whether he'll demand a transfer for a team that will use his undoubted abilities.

Why isn't he in our team? My guess is he is much weaker defensively and Westwood while not quite as good as Bannan at set pieces is good enough for us not to miss him, except when Westwood has a bad day.

Con - As stated previously, your stats are all about opinion that do not qualify closer scrutiny. All I will say is , whoever is wrong ( & I'm not saying who those person or persons may be -  I'll leave that for others to decide) this is surely a classic case of:

" Should have gone to Specsavers!"

  14.

I would put Friedal as being one of the more useless. The only thing he could do was stop the ball if it came at him. Anything to the side, or commanding the area/defense he was the worse!

Or perhaps Given. Hasn't played much, but with his wages and his poor displays and cockups as got to be the worse all in.  (He use to be a top keeper, but we got him too late)

    Rubbish.

Friedel wasn't amazing, but he was very good. To call him the most useless amongst some of the others we've had is madness.

Same with GIven. He started this season poorly and was rightly dropped, but everyone seems to forget that he was one of the reasons we stayed in the league last season. He was perfectly fine in goal last year.

No. People only judge keepers on what they notice. ie. the saves they make.

In Friedals case you notice he made a fantastic stop. What you dont notice was that it was straight down his throat or within reach. You don't notice the goals he lets in that are a yard either side, or the fact that another keeper would have in fact saved them. You also don't notice there poor ability in the air, catching and commanding his players.

People only have a perception on keepers based on saves and mistakes and not there overall game or their performance compared to other keepers.

I also didnt say he was most useless; just that he was one in a group of under performing keepers we have had.

I',m sorry but you are so wrong. "People" don't judge a keeper from his saves. Maybe you do, and maybe some other do that too, but "people" don't. And it certainly doesn't define a good keeper. A good keeper is a keeper who's positioning is that good that he mostly doesn't have to make great saves. That's Friedel. A great keeper is a keeper who's good at positioning but still can make those fantastic saves when good positioning isn't enough. And commands his area. That's Schmeichel at his best. And actually Guzan if he keeps on like he's done this season. A keeper who can make fantastic saves but make some howlers ain't a very good keeper. That's Sörensen. But I liked Sörensen for his sometimes fantastic saves. But Friedel was/is a very good keeper. Just not a great keepr. And a little weak at commanding his area.

Pelle - A good keeper is one who can save a Swedish Villa flag from going missing at Scruffy McGuffy's when a bunch of Swedish Villa Fanatics (pissed out of their skulls) are passionately shouting " Bork! Bork! Bork" for all they are worth!  :P

PS - So happy your flag turned up - Villa Sweden, WE LOVE YOU! "Bork! Bork! Bork!"

  15. All I'm saying is, whatever your opinion is, it's impossible to argue against the fact that Bannan has been a net positive effect for the team this season.  You don't have to agree with me he is a great player but it is impossible for you to contradict that fact. Points accrued in the games he's played tell the story. Had he played all 35 games we would be on 43 points not 37 at an average of 1.22 points per game.

Con, as usual I totally & 100% disagree. Had Bannan played in all 35 Games this season we would undoubtedly now have less pts than both Reading & QPR & would be welcoming the likes of Bournemoth & Doncaster Rovers to villa Park next season & would be staring into the abyss. With his continual selection The 8-o loss to Chelsea would seem like his & our best result of the season

I know you love your stats but plain old common sense tells me & surely anyone with half a brain that the upshot & conclusion of all your research is just plain wrong, Wrong, wrong! wrong wrong wrong.

Currently, Bannan is crap. That may not be the case forever & the guy certainly can & may well  improve. ( let's face it, he really, really couldn't be much worse!) However, until such a time that he does I for one will forever remain groaning my nuts off & brickin' it whenever he is selected.

His name on the teamsheet fills me with dread & my common sense statistics (my eyes) tell me that the guy is an absolute nightmare both on & off the pitch!

  16. If we stay up and kept the same side where do people see us finishing next year?

Truthfully - I believe we would end up In another desperate relegation struggle. This team need's serious investment & we're not kidding anyone. Lambo has been extremely brave & I admire him immensely. However, we need  2 quality Central Defenders, one to cover Vlaar who is injury prone. We also need a proven left back who Joe Bennett can directly compete with. Cover for Matty Lowton & an absolute quality ball winning Midfielder who is comfortable in possession & at least one more half decent striker in case the Monster get's injured.

If we do this & Lambo picks up some more of the jewels that are available in the lower divisions we could really go far. However, it is vital that we hang on to our really talented players & do not become a feeder Club for the so called top 4 vultures.

The bottom line is that we do not want to spend next season gambling again with untried youngsters as talented as they may potentially be. Especially when it brings our future so tantalisingly into doubt.

Perhaps it might be an idea for you to start your very own thread in relation to the question that you pose!

  17. My biggest fear is spontaneity. When you go to the theatre you know exactly what is going to happen.

When you go to a football match (especially following & involving every nail biting moment of  watching our beloved Villa) you never quite know what is going to happen next. (Except Man U away ofcourse)

    Compelling or what?

NB* Can I claim the VT philosopher quote  of the year award or what? ;)

  18. We are in for a biblical clearout of massive proportions whether or not we stay up. There are just so many bad apples on the fringes and players who have been frozen out that will be looking for moves. A fair number will have their contracts paid off I reckon, Given, Ireland and Hutton come to mind.

I can't see anyone in the team we started against Sunderland leaving though. That central midfield position is just massively bloated with huge numbers of mediocre players. Get that position right and we'll be on our way.

With a strong, big defensive midfielder who can boss teams, an experienced central defender to forge a partnership with Vlaar and a genuine box-to-box midfielder who supports the front three with chances and gets in on the goalscoring, this team could finish in the top ten. Add someone to add depth to the front three, and a pacy left back to take the pressure off Bennett and we could go even higher. We should be looking in continental europe really; as previous posters have said that's where the value is. I hope we've had an army of scouts out there this season!

    Quality Post!

  19. If beating Reading and QPR makes Bannan a Championship player * does beating Liverpool, drawing with Arsenal, make him a Premiership player again? Guess it depends what your fixed narrative is.

*that doesn't even make sense. Beating Championship players makes him no worse than a Championship player, more logically a better than Championship player.

What about losing 8 - 0 at Chelski?????? Con- Please explain.............No Excuses!

  20. Lambert doesn't wear his glasses to training, it's all so clear now!

    30aqav8.jpg

I bet this is what PL is thinking@

" I'm sure that's our wee Barry Bannon being chased along the motorway there by the old bill. Oh well at least he's getting some training done even if his corners are a criminal act"  :P

  21. Big clear out in the summer if possible. Don't think we'll offload everyone we want to but in an ideal world i'd let the following go:

    Given, Marshall

Dunne, Stevens - Loan, Williams - Loan

Ireland, El Ahmadi, Albrighton - Loan/Sell, Holman, Makoun, Dawkins, Bannan, Herd, Johnson - loan

    Bent, Delfouneso

    Leaving a squad of:

    GK Guzan, Siegreist

DF Vlaar, Clark, Baker, Bennett, Lichaj, Lowton

CM Westwood, Delph, Sylla, Gardner, Carruthers, Grealish

    Wingers/FW N'Zogbia, Agbonlahor, Weimann, Bowery

    CF Benteke, Burke,  Drennan

That squad would be too light on numbers and experience but it would give some youngsters a chance to get in and around the squad - the likes of Siegreist, Grealish, Drennan, Burke make make a handful of appearances.

I think Clark could move into central midfield much like David Luiz has at Chelsea (I'm not comparing the two on ability!).

IMO we need to sign about 3 or 4 players who are aged around 24-28 who have a decent amount of games under their belts and have the potential sell on value. I think a CB, CM, winger and CF are required to boost the side. For me I'd be raiding Belgian players and looking in Holland and across Europe. Clearly this is where the value is - you'd never pick up a player like Benteke in England for £7million and in one season is looking like a £25-£30M player.

CB: Toby Alderweireld (Ajax) - looks a handy player wouldn't be easy to get him but would be a good addition

    Winger: Necer Chadli (Twente)

CF - Jelle Vossen (Genk) / Wilfried Bony (Vitesse) - only issue with African players is the African nations every couple of years takes them away from the team for a while.

Not sure on a CM but we could do with an enforcer in the mold of Fellaini/Toure but, again, someone who isn't going to cost the club £20million. Saying that I've been impressed with Sylla, Westwood and Delph lately but I'm still unconvinced we can play with just 2 CMs which is an option we could do with at times.

I hope the powers that be at the club are thinking somewhere along these lines to reduce the amount of dead wood and to continue signing up and coming players whilst giving our own youth a chance. As long as we stay up of course.

Agree with you on the majority of this, but would keep Herd (Highly versatile & underated) & sell N'zogbia because he only ever seems to play one decent game in every 6 or 7. I think the rest of your post is spot on.

  22.

This is a first class post & provide's great insight into the thorougness of preparation by Lambo, Karsa & the rest of the management/coaching team.

The bottom line is though.............and all managers will tell you this...............it's ultimately down to the players on the pitch to bring it off!

Just to further add that it also works both ways. You're not going to like this, but FSW deliberately allowed both our full backs the freedom to roam high up the park so that Chelski could exploit the huge space behind them in the nightmare of Stamford Bridge.

    FSW??

    Fat Spanish Waiter!

  23. 2 mill for Bannan

More likely to get 2 mill for the tea lady

Rumour has it Alex Ferguson has just put in a £5M bid for her after watching her take a corner kick.

    2 sugars please! ;)
