  1. I'm from the island of Guernsey where we don't have a professional team, so there tends to be a lot of 'glory hunter' fans over here as they have to choose a team to support as there isn't a local one to automatically follow.

The closest team to us is Southampton, in terms of geographic location and the personal link as their legend Matt Le Tissier is of course from Guernsey. Most young players over here who are decent end up having trials with them as the club has a link with the island and they use to take on a batch of players from here every year, however I think they may have stopped this now, we havn't had a professional player come from Guernsey since Le Tissier.

I support the Villa as I was one of those that was born into it, my dad's parents are from Sutton Coldfield and so my dad's side of the family all support Villa, we still have family over there and occasionally go over to watch the odd match when we can.

There's hardly any Villa fans over here, the majority are Liverpool, Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and people always find it strange when you tell them you support Villa, there's hardly any of us over here, but I like that, it's good to be different and not support one of the 'mainstream' teams over here.

  2. Assisted the Lowton goal with a cross yesterday and had another assist with a cross for one of Helenius' goals. Apart from that I havn't seen the matches so don't know how he's been doing in general play unfortunately

  3. Is it actually his twitter though?

I don't think so, he keeps tweeting to all the Villa players and none of them have ever responded, however the official account follows him, but none of the players do.

  4. 'AVFCAgent' on good ol' twitter seems to be very confident of this happening. Can't say he's convinced me however, and I don't think he's fooling many.

Belhanda will agree terms and sign this weekend and will be revealed early, next week probably Monday #avfc

@AVFCTransTweet @HeartOfTheHolte fine if Belhanda signs delete your accounts and if he doesn't I will delete mine

    @CustomMade_x @AVFCTransTweet @HeartOfTheHolte I've seen him in Birmingham that's how confident I am

So it's been confirmed that Junior shirts and the Youth team will wear shirts displaying the 'Acorns 25 logo' for the 2013/14 season.

Nice touch I suppose for Dafabet to allow this, looks like they're definitely trying to build a good relationship with the club and fans.

Acorns, the Club's official charity partner, will have their 'Acorns 25' logo displayed across the front of shirts worn by the Villa youth team during the 2013-14 campaign.

Premier League restrictions on sponsorships mean that junior shirts cannot feature the logo of Dafabet, the Club's new official main sponsor.

But Dafabet's desire to work with the Club in our continued efforts on behalf of Acorns has been demonstrated with their support for the Acorns brand being displayed on junior shirts, acknowledging the Club's long-standing association with the Midlands-based charity.

Villa Chief Executive Paul Faulkner said: "We're delighted to now be able to confirm that, thanks to Dafabet, the Acorns logo will be able to be used on our junior shirts this season. Everybody knows how special the Club's relationship with Acorns is and that was something we emphasised to Dafabet when we entered into negotiations with them. It's great that they have embraced Acorns in this way and that together we are able to give additional awareness to the charity during their 25th anniversary."

Acorns Chief Executive David Strudley added: "The ongoing support shown by the club and fans for Acorns is immeasurable and clearly demonstrated by their efforts to include us in their discussions with Dafabet. We are extremely grateful to both Aston Villa and Dafabet in what is a crucial year as we celebrate 25 years of caring and look to a future where we can help to provide care and support to each of the 2,000 plus life-limited and life-threatened children in the region."

Villa will display an 'Acorns 25' logo on both the home and away youth match shirts and junior replica shirts next season as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations for Acorns Children's Hospice.

From Wednesday, June 26, supporters who wish to buy junior replica shirts may have the Acorns 25 logo applied at purchase, except on match days.

Those fans who have already purchased a junior shirt online, in-store or from other outlets can come to the Villa Village store at Villa Park to have the logo applied free of charge.

Villa's Acorns ambassador Gabby Agbonlahor said: "The support for Acorns by Villa fans and the wider community has been incredible over the years and we want to make sure these efforts are continued.

"Acorns is very much part of who we are as a football club and raising awareness and raising funds for the children and families is vital.

"As players, having responsibilities within our community is good. There is more to life than football and Acorns is a very real reminder of this to us.

"The work carried out by the staff, the nurses and the volunteers who come in and help is inspiring and it's great we will have the 'Acorns 25' logo on all junior shirts and shirts worn by our youth team."

  8. Since I left for work this morning this thread has almost doubled in size!

Liking both the kits though, the home kit looks smart and the away kit is a bit different, which I think is always good for away kits.

  9.
    1. Yet, doesn't strike me as a fwd that relishes the physical side of the game. A "second striker" rather than a "9" despite massive size (3/3)

    2. Technically sound, moves well off the ball, quite agile for his size + proved a decent goalscorer/finisher (at a much lower level) (2/3)

    3. I hope Nicklas Helenius proves successful at Aston Villa, but not the kind of signing I would expect them to make (1/3)

  10. We're linked a keeper called Jesus and there are no "crosses" jokes?

    Or have I missed something?

If we sign Jesus he'll be hoping that Lowton and Bennet get better at stopping crosses coming into the box, because he's probably not going to want to go any where near them..

  11.

I never get how anybody can be so downright rude to a guy who plays for Villa, has never said anything wrong about the club, disrespected the fans or not given anything but 100% to the cause.

He may not be good enough, but some of the bile in this thread is just unnecessary.

Yeah, Stevens looked decent enough in those games he played in, I wouldn't write him off yet, beside he was cheap, wasn't it like 250k? I was actually surprised he didn't get more games last season as he looked more consistent defensively than Bennett.

I imagine that Mcleish bought him with the view to make him the first team left back, unfortunately for him though with Mcleish leaving and Lambert bringing Bennet in that probably now won't happen.

  12. I thought this Stevens did an alright job the few games he played, I think if he hadn't gotten injured he would probably have had a longer run in the team. Can't see that he'll ever be used for anything but backup at Villa though.
