That’s how I took it. Almost seems like Percy has taken it as a given that 100m would be accepted but since then something has changed.

Mate John Percy is practically the comms dept for villa these days. If he has stated there is a medical then this info will have come from direct from the villa end. I doubt Fabrizo has anywhere near as good access on villa end as Percy. Since villa will ultimately dictate the terms of this sale I think that means it’s done.

  2. If it’s “done” pending a medical then the clubs should just announce it’s “done pending a medical”. I will lose respect for our club here if we make our fans suffer through another few days of silent speculation about Jack only to sell him after a medical.  This is different to most transfers and they need to respect that. Grealish is representative of the fan base and this transfer will hurt like no other in history.

  3. The club should get ahead of this now before the fan meltdown continues. We will end up looking like mugs if they stay silent and he slinks out the back door with a 2 line thank you statement, even if it’s for a record fee.

Either announce (via Percy if necessary) that we are negotiating his exit as he wants to leave but we want a certain fee, or announce he is staying at all costs. It will be a lot less painful to do this than the slow drip of information from Fabrizo et al that usually occurs. This is different to other transfers. The relationship of Grealish to the villa fans means this plaster just needs to be ripped off quickly or it will damage the relationship with the fan base.

Grealish should want this too (assuming he wants to leave). His legacy will be better if he honest and upfront about what is happening and why he is leaving.

The kit must have been delivered to the store by now surely? How many people will have seen boxes full of kits by now and not one of them has taken a quick photo?

Maybe they like having a job?

Well I hope our "negotiation" tactic is £130m or go away.

Despite being the most loaded club in world football city seem quite tight with transfer fees. It’s the reason pep has previously stated that Grealish is too expensive for city. Wages on the other hand they are happy to have the most expensive wage bill in the league by a distance. Their tactic seems tap up players with promise of trophies and fat wages so they agitate for a move ala Harry Kane rather than pay the going rate. Jack won’t agitate and city won’t pay so I think he’s going no where.

  6. Sam Lee needs to take a break from Twitter (we all need to take a break from Twitter).

To be fair to Sam Lee both Man City and Villa run extremely tight operations with minimal leaks. Commenting on a potential transfer between these two clubs is probably a hard and pointless task. His employer is no doubt pressuring him to churn out an article on the transfer and he is leaning on any third rate sourced information he can find. The surprising thing is that he seems genuinely surprised that this has gone down badly with Villa fans. Articles like his go down badly from whichever outlet churns them out, only normally it is from a betting account,  'Sky sources' or an uncredited newspaper article, so there is no one to rail against for long.

He has decided to take clear ownership of this information, and he has given conflicting accounts, so he is reaping the consequences of that. It's similar to any other Twitter ITK - they get plenty of abuse too. There is a reason that the likes of John Percy and Romano only comment when the transfer is all but complete...it gives them credibility.

I seem to remember when the Athletic launched in this country they confirmed that they weren't going to run articles on transfer rumours as it was beneath them. I see that has fallen away in search of clicks.

  7. It’s agony for us fans but there is a certain logic for Grealish’s personal ‘brand’ to drag this out for a while before resigning for villa. He gets wall to wall news and social media coverage and it lets everyone be known that the champions and Pep Guardiola himself, the so called best manager in the league, wants him in his team.
Then he shuns it all to resign for villa showing loyalty and the individuality that makes him such a star. He also probably nets him a nice pay rise in the process.

  8. Cheers John, you’ve been a big part of the villa story in the last 4 years. No doubt you helped bring a winning mentality to the team that had been badly lost in the Championship. All the time he has gone about his role quietly and diligently which has no doubt been a shock to a few.
I do wonder if Shakespeare was actually brought in as his replacement last year but John decided to stay another year?

  9. I think Wes is fine as back up given Oli is a freak who never gets injured. Give Wes the cup games to build his fitness/sharpness and to keep Oli fresh for the league. Yes Oli could get get knobbled in the first game but that is true of most teams in the league - very few teams have a an equal replacement to step in when a player gets injured.
Wes was our record signing not too long back, if we sold him now we’d be lucky to recover 10% of the fee so we may as well continue to develop him as second or third striker.

Does he not play in the same position as Buendia?

It’s part of a new tactical trend to play 3 overlapping right wingers in Bailey, Buendía and Traore. Then Matty Cash overlaps the lot of them and Konsa comes and overlaps again as an overlapping centre back ala Sheffield Utd. Eventually the ball is overlapped directly into the oppositions net. Easy.
