  1. Also, I had more respect for Lambert when he was signing young and hungry players. I felt, as fans, we had something to 'hang our hat' on and that improvement in style of play and results around the corner.

His about face in the summer, was an admission of failure of the previous policy, and nothing I have seen so far has proven the new way forward as having the potential for success.

  2. Surely, instead of just thrusting names out, we should do what is not done when Villa actually discuss a new manager and think about where the club should be going and the ethos we would like to instill?

Then select a manager based upon a long term plan for progression.

Then when that manager leaves, choose another manager with a similar philosophy.

You know, like the successful clubs do.

  3. Okore had the chance to sign for other teams. He signed for us because he'd get game time. Now, I am not advocating a player should walk into a side performing well, but surely, a side that isn't performing well should see other players given a chance: isn't this one of Lambert's biggest faults?

  4. Looked good in champions league and for national team.

Didn't look bad when he has played for Villa.

I just don't get how he is always first reserve. Defenders from outside the previous match day squad are called up to the first team ahead of him when he was sat on bench previously.

  5. We play not to lose. Therefore, Lambert is basically playing for a draw or 1 point a game.

If we played to win, we may actually win.

Under Lambert it'd take 3 games to earn 3 points.

Under a manager who tries to win, it may only take one.

If anyone questions whether Lambert plays for a point, look at our point hauls over 38 games.

  6.

He actually did quite well with Wycombe, Colchester and Norwich. Shame he's not been able to replicate that success here.

I don't know for certain, as I only really saw Norwich out of those periods of Lambert's career, but I get the feeling that he's changed his tactical approach when taking charge of Villa. I remember his Norwich side often playing down the wing, whipping in crosses and Grant Holt being on the end of them. With us he seems to have abandoned wingers, and opted to play 3 forwards and fewer attacks resulting in a cross. Maybe he tweaked his style because of the players available.

He's always played relatively narrow in my memory. He used the diamond regularly, including against Rodgers' Swansea, whom he has a excellent record against, and has been noted as where rodgers picked the idea for this system up.

  7. What you probably mean is that his team has been losing a bit lately, and hasn't scored many goals.

I've never been able to identify the "plan" or "ethos" of any football team, and judging by how few football commentators talk about such things, I'm a bit inclined to think that they're like unicorns.

There are many teams in the league who have an ethos/plan from top to bottom.

Arsenal, City, Liverpool, Swansea, Southampton, Burnley to name but a few.

  8. He's as good as gone.

As is the other one with a contract running down.

Who is to blame? Those running the club. You do not let two of your most important players go into the final season of their contract, whatever the situation at the club.

The reason he got a new contract is because he achieved his remit from the owner.

    This much is obvious.

As I've probably already said I think if Lerner wasn't selling the club then he would have got rid.

As for achieving his remit did Mcleish not achieve exactly the same thing? And we know what happened to him .

The major difference was the Bolton game.

Which because Lerner has not been able to sell the club is all the ownee now aims for.

I think he has been aiming for that way before Lambert showed up and you know it.

Staying up is the limit of the ambition now and it should be more.

Ashley gets grief for his ambition being 8th-10th....

  11. We have been spending 15 to 20 million it was only this season we haven't due to players not moving to us it would be 14 with our loan player alone and you can bet that we spend in January for once because of it hence why increasing 15 or 20m a year is 35-40. We can only break even ATM because of losses if we ever want to have a go again

Hence my point that we didn't spend that this year and we can afford £15-20m a season. I think we may be arguing the same point here? I am not advocating £40m spends a season as our club cannot currently sustain that - but we need to be able to through increasing revenue streams as you have noted.

Our scouting system would seem to be the area that needs the most work....

  12. In reality the only reason he is still here is because of Lerner. In a different situation he would have been gone last season, if not definately after the last 7 results. There's no other owner in the premier league regardless of our bleak transfer funds, that would have kept Lambert here based on results. I dont think even the Lambert supporters can argue with that!!

I understand why they gave Lambert a new contract. With a club up for sale, a bit of stability is no bad thing in general, but needs to be the right stability and keeping PL is not the right stability.

  13. Hadn't been at his best in recent weeks, but was outstanding again yesterday. So many times during Lambert's tenure he has had to drag us out of a hole with the defence and midfield sat on him, trying to soak up pressure. Good work Brad.
