  1. Liverpool have now needed one for about 3 days and have agreed a fee for a 30 year old experienced international for a fairly small £2m.

We signed a highly experienced French right back for a mere £2.5m, but many people on this site seem to think its the worst thing ever and poor that MON is mad or having a breakdown, or something...

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

    He's from Senegal isn't he?

Yup. Twas a french colony though.

  2. Chelsea would have become the next Leeds if Abramovich did not buy them. Chelsea spent alot of money under Ken Bates to win those FA cups, but I would still not regard them as being a large club at that time. The "much bigger following" is that now or before the money Abramovich spent? and how do you gauge the larger following, attendances?.

No, by what i see and know. I live in Ireland, and i can remember when i was younger being Far more Chelsea fans than Villa fans. It has always been the case. Im not saying we are a small club, far from it, but in terms of following and revenue through following we are a long way of the top london clubs and have been for some time.

  3. ,A good size club who haven`t won anything in over a decade.

Sounds a bit like Chelsea before mourihno

I like the way you disregard the FA cup win against us.

Tis true to an extent. But Chelsea had alot of £££ before Mourinho came in, and a much bigger following.

  4. Firstly the thread says 'Is Cuellar a good player'

Then the poll question is 'Is Cuellar good enough'

    Your asking two different things.

Thats like me saying, yeah, Danny Murphy is a good player, but is he good enough for us? No.

    Sort it out ;)

  5. Needs to stay, he inherited a pretty bad squad and did OK to turn it around. He's going through a bad patch but so has Arsene Wenger every single year and he's still there.

Are you serriously comparing MON with Wenger? That is a bloody shock!

Wenger has had a slump of fortunes recently but he is ARSENAL...he has made Arsenal what they are today and if you did see an ounce of football yesterday you would´ve been bloody happy to support Arsene Wengers exciting Guns!

Sounds like you should be the one supporting Arsenal.

No..but I like good football when I see it...and I do appreciate it from whoever it comes from. I love the sport and I would really love to see that kind of talent, quality and strength at Villa.

Whilst i agree (like most people would) that i'd much rather see us play good football and hoof ball, it would be better if you started supporting the team and the manager, rather than taking every possible chance you can get to undermine him and the team.

Patience is needed, especially after one game of the season.

As Sir Hansen rightly said, this is the big league, we cant sit around and moap, we've got to pick ourselves up, sort it out and move on.

  7. Frank Rijkaard and Robert Mancini are the only available managers that would bring something different i can think off.

Would they do a better job? Who knows, but they'd bring a different philosophy and different ideas.

I'm happy with MON for now, but if worst comes to worst those two would be my choice.

Not Alan **** Curbishley, as some tit said on another thread.

  8. I've nothing against his spending, its not my money and its not a fair assessment.

When he came in we had a SHIT, i mean really Shit team, with some quality hidden amongst it.

He couldnt go out and overhaul the team in one or two windows. It's taken him years to ship the crap out and get HIS squad together, and thats why he's spent so much.

The best comparison would be Rafa Benitez. Before he came Liverpools team was pretty pants. He spent pretty much the same if not more than MON to completely overhaul his squad, and its taken him years aswell.

Now that MON has his squad together, he can push on(hopefully) and get the quality to suplement the grafters. And much like Rafa Benitez, he's bought his fair share of crap, but you have to maintain a sense of perspective. Most of the crap players he bought have proven to be short term solutions. If Shorey goes and Warnock comes in you'll see a good example of this. Much like Liverpool had Arbeloa and brought in Johnson.

You cant go out and spend shit loads of money on quality players without consequence, and it takes a long time to build a team.

There are so many examples of this i wont even start. But everyone knows the most famous, and thats Alex Ferguson.

It is a results driven buisness, but its also a long term buisness. You cant make a quick few in Football.

Finally, i think Lerner see's the long term. And as someone pointed out, in a few years more regulations are coming in, and eventualy a salary cap will be introduced. And Lerner and MON knows this. And by then, be it 3 or 5 years, we will be well placed to be the title team we once were.

  9. Oh shit the idiots have started again

    Nice post on poster there.

As I've said, I'd really like MON to do well. But I'm not sure he will.

Perhaps a Director of Football can be brought in to sort his signings out for him?

I just can't help that on his own MON isn't good enough to take us forward.

Hell, it might be that he's simply too nice a guy to get on at this level:

    MON: "How much for Sneijder?"

    Madrid: "He's not for sale."

MON: "Okay then. Sorry for wasting your time."

No, Director of Football would mean MON would walk out.

Infact, the best managers are always single minded, and i firmly believe that a mangers reign should be a dictatorship and he should only be accountable to one man, the chairman.

David Moyes would walk out of Everton if they had a director of football, Arsene Wenger and SAF the same.

Thats my opinion anyway, if anything, he needs someone on his scouting staff with better contacts within europe.

I don't disagree with your point, but i think something needs to be done to give MON the kick up the arse he needs to get stuff done. If I've got a deadline to meet, I make sure the work is done well in advance, just in case.

It seems MON needs to buy a ****ing calendar, or at least be told when to sign players.

It's not like St holders don't pay for the first 2 home games in August because the squad's not assembled yet, is it?

I think his problem is he seeks a certain type of player. And if that player isnt available, he doesnt know where to go.

  11. I'd only sack if the manager loses the dressing room.

Soon as that happens, then the teams in trouble.

And a little part of me thinks that Moscow debacle went alot further than we initialy thought.

I think there are serious signs that the cracks are beginning to show, going back as you say, to Moscow.

Firstly, NRC must be absolutely livid that he absolutely cannot buy a game, and a 19 year old untried kid starts in the middle. Then Luke Young was unhappy last year at being played out of position for so long. Shorey spat his dummy, and I don't think Carew and O'Neill see eye to eye anyway. All of these things cn be swept under the carpet when results are going well, but when the poor form continues, I think the resentment starts to bubble over.

I agree with you on this, something about MONs body language, and the players body language today didnt sit right with me.

And Carew hasnt look bothered during pre-season.

But theres only so much MON can actualy do, after all he doesnt play on the pitch. Yes he is accountable to a degree, but if the players go out and dont try then thats their fault, not his. In my opinion no one in our team wants to take responsibilty when the shit hits the fan, and thats what we need the most.

  12. Barry was the glue in our team that held everything together.

Without him our midfield looked clueless and all over the shop, and by the looks of things Man Citys looked well organised and fluid.

Delph is not a replacement (Yet).

It was weird seeing him in a City shirt wasnt it.

  13. I did notice MON looking rather solemn on the sidelines.

    Not like him.

Probably just amazed/disgusted at the pathetic booing fans tbh.

I'd hope he was more amazed/disgusted with most of his players' poor performances, than he was at the paying punters' opinions on those players.

Even at our smashing against Liverpool last year he was animated on the sidelines, today he was just completely bereft of anything tbh.

Something must have got to him.
