Do you really care? Just don't buy into the hype that Moyes doesn't spend money. Same goes for the myth that Arsenal pick up all these youngsters for free.
-
Can't remember who posted this, but someone said we were thrilled to get UEFA last season, while this season it's "meh". And this indicates progress.
Same goes for our matches against the top 4. We actually feel we should have beaten United twice, something I haven't thought for as long as I can remember.
-
I thought we did better, perhaps not in points, but definatly in performance. Won away against Arsenal. Should have won home against United. In fact with the exception of the trashing Chelsea and RS gave us away, I thought we looked decent. Deserved a win away against United as well, but we lack a bit of experience it seems.

Impossible to say without considering the money invested this summer. But I'd like to think 5th/6th and a trophy.

I think we won't win anything with Barry as a CM cause he simply isn't good enough. Which is kinda ironic considering Liverpool want him.
Or, the players around him at Villa simply aren't as good as him.
Yeah that's more like it, I think.
Nope. Barry can't play a holding midfielder in the PL, and he can't be an attacking midfielder. So unless we reverse to 4-5-1 with a 3 man midfield we should replace him. Right now Barry offers very little for us.

With Barry Petrov and a Benayoun type of midfielder, you would have an ideal 3 man midfield for 4-5-1 or a diamond, but MON insists on 4-4-2.

I think they should sign him tbh, then everyone can see him fail. He will be benched, drop out of the England squad, lose legend status here and just fade. Please leave Gareth.

if barry had been SO excellent this season then i think that this discussion would be less evenly split, and maybe he might have got the player of the year.
most people forgave barry early in the season because he got back into the team, got his head down and worked hard, which ultimately got most of the fans back on his side. you can not, however, escape the fact that the second half of the season has been dreadful - yes, i know that we had key players out, and some others who played badly, but the one single player for me who stood out as being exceptionally poor was barry. he showed no fight, no desire to motivate those around him and has repeatedly disappeared in games when we needed him to stand up and be counted - and HE IS THE CAPTAIN.
he has serious flaws to his game - mobility, tackling, shooting, lack of right foot etc, and has shown no signs of trying to sort them out - in any case none of his weaknessess seem to shown any signs of improving.
we have had many important players over the years, but we have got over the departure of every single one of them, and we will do the same with barry
Spot on.

Atleast I'm debating the topic. You shouldn't come with personal comments, it's against the site rules. Ooops, here I'm educating you again.

Must suck to be educated by a school child then

Yes. Because I am full of knowledge and you should take notice and learn.

Yet if you fail to see the difference between the premier league and international football its not much here to debate.
Sorry, is there no tackling in international football?
Sorry, if you can't see the difference between the pace and style of the PL and international football it's not much I can do. There is a reason why some players are shit at club levels, yet excell in international football.
It's also a bit different playing defensive midfield for a Villa side facing spurs, united and chelsea, compared to playing the passing game for an England side, who is the epitomy of no bottle, against sides like Slovakia.
-
Barry brilliant at tackling, now that made my day Guess we both got it

Maybe the point was that making a single tackle or few tackles indiciates he is shit at tackling, because he IS shit at tackling. He is a good passer of the ball, but totally shit at tackling and anyone saying otherwise is wrong. You might have a different opinion, but then you simply don't know what you are talking about.
Barry is capable of passing the ball, he has vision, decent on the ball, but he has no aggression or tackling ability. Which is why he would NEVER work as a defensive midfielder in the premier league. And that's also why he is more suited for a 3 man midfield where he don't have to attack or defend, but can pick out passes and dictate the play.
Petrov is a better defensive midfielder then Barry and that is by some distance.
-
If you think Barry's tackling is very good you haven't seen him play much. He is **** shit at it and loses possession by simply not making an effort of gaining the ball, Half the time he gives away stupid free kicks by running into players backs and yelling at the ref after doing so.
Petrov is way better.
-
Ok, he has managed one tackle. Makes him a decent defensive midfielder that lmao
-
And tell me a single match in the Premier League where Barry has dominated as a defensive midfielder. England matches aren't even relevant.
-
No he can't. In fact tell me a single tackle he has made this entire season.
-
Barry by a mile. Can do everything Petrov can do and a whole lot more besides.
Can he tackle? No he can't. In fact he lost the ball dangerously versus Fulham because he wouldn't/couldn't get his shorts dirty.
Barry's idea of tackling is running into opponents backsides.
-
Barry is twice the player of Petrov in the holding role.
No he isn't, and when has EVER proved this? Barry doesn't have the aggression or tackling to keep that role. In fact he can't tackle at all so he would be rubbish at it.
-
Petrov by a mile. Barry is a luxury player and not suited for 4-4-2
