That's fair - I'm just not sure given the wider context of his career to date. I don't think he's a lost cause, though, and I wouldn't want to sell him right now - but we're talking about a guy who has 1 assist in almost 50 appearances at senior level. It's a side of his game that he definitely needs to improve. He's got a lot of good things about him, but we need to see more. I'd loan him again this year to a side that'll be looking to make the playoffs in the championship.

He also scored 4 goals in the Championship last season though.

  2. I’m drunk now but just felt the need to login to VT to say how much I adore Unai. Wonderful this internet

  3. Just checked with Transfermarkt, and Arsenal now have the highest net spend on transfers of all clubs in Europe (last five years).

It’s not all Arteta magic, The Kroenke’s have been spending like drunken sailors.

Imagine a few bedwetters on Twitter deleting their “he’s off to Juve/Bayern/PSG” tweets

I can’t even wet the bed anymore, all dried up inside.

  5. All those spanish sources say things like ”unless a more attractive club arrives”. Sounds like ”someone come and get me please”. Doubt he’ll come to us.

Absolute non-story as far as I can tell. The strike off is due to being late filing. Imagine would get cleared up.

This company owning the trademark and appearing dormant at last accounts also looks like nothing to me.

There's plenty of other issues with being sponsored by this company without clutching at stuff like this.

The whole article is worth reading anyway, seems very well researched as you’d expect from the brilliant Philippe Auclair.

  7. Saint-Maximin, Adama Traore, Bailey … It looks like someone is pointing out the players with the worst decision making.

Bernardo Silva and Luis Diaz are placed in the ”worst” quadrant.

  8. Isn’t all this quite similar to when Sheikh Mansoor decided to build the club around Guardiola? Appointing a whole structure from Barcelona, with Txiki Begiristain and other, to make things comfortable for Pep. That was Man City’s Spanish revolution and this looks like ours.

He's played his part but without these owners nothing good happens. I think some give far too much credit on Purslow.

When Emery joined it was obvious Purslow had been pushed back slightly and it doesn't surprise me we offered him a different role.

Gerrard was a huge error and TBH we didn't invest the Grealish money well.

I'm thankful for his time here. He's contributed to the success. I'm not worried in the slightest.

The most important people in all of this are the owners.

100% agree. In football these day the owners are the most important people at a club (which isn't good really). But we're lucky to have brilliant owners, who aren't only rich but also seem very smart and actively involved.

Well, him being offered another role in the club because he's not needed in his current role is kinda being gotten rid of, no?

Purslow has been much less visible since the Gerrard sacking, and it's not exactly a surprise he's gone now. Wish him well but can't pretend I'm sad he's out of the club.

  11. I’d be ecstatic with 6th and hopefully Europa League qualification.

Chelsea will most likely be miles better next season and Spurs could be too. It’s possible Villa could perform at a very high level next season and still ”only” finish 9th or 10th. The Prem is a difficult place these days.

  12. Done deal according to Ornstein

Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sign Youri Tielemans.

The former Leicester City midfielder departed the King Power Stadium this summer after his contract expired. He has previously been heavily linked with clubs in the Champions League and there has been competition from across Europe for his signature.

Drat, West Ham have beaten us to it. Oh well, we'll just have to be the 2nd English club to win the Europa Conference League (if we manage to win it, that is, of course!)

Don’t really want to mention it, but could also become the first English club in the UECL not to reach the semi-finals.
