There was a cricket phone in on talksport after the Old Trafford game when we drew and this snotty aussie woman rang up and said she was releived becasue she hates losing to England and how shite England are blah blah blah.........
I hope she is watching now, because you are LOSING TO ENGLAND!
MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

163-8
Dear oh dear oh dear!
Where have all the aussies gone? Usurped by the best team in the world!
Any comments from our friends down under on that fantastic catch by Strauss?
As we say in football: 'who are ya? who are ya?'

Juan has been a prolific goalscorer in two different leagues.
Not in the Premiership.
DOL's first season here he scored 23 goals.
Why is that not prolific? We cannot afford an Henry.
-
Juan has been a prolific goalscorer in two different leagues. When he started hitting the back of the net it wasn't until the 4th or 5th game of DOL's first season. And when he does score, I hope his critics eat humble pie.
As for penalty taking, I can name several great strikers who have been shit at pens: Berkamp, Baggio and Zola come to mind, I am sure other people can come up with other names.

I have long thought that Baros and JPA would be ideal together. I think the only thing that JPA has been lacking is a decent partner.
JPA / Baros must be given a try, it's too tempting for me
confuse the opposition seeing as they are long lost twins
:winkold:

Oh look another poll! And another Baros thread!
-
So its an online game for the PC right? And a huge RPG with a massive world to explore?
I would if I had the time!
-
Hey with your definition of significant - I suspect there's been quite few young ladies who gone looking for the batteries :-)
ROFLMAO!
Absolute classic!
-
Blues have a net spend of £4.5 million. Boro have a net spend of £9.3 million. Spurs have a net spend of £0.5 million.
Buying Baros will put us ahead of two of them and just behind Boro.
Where has Blues net spend of 4.5 million come from? Same for Spurs?
-
If Baros comes in OK but compared to others and in the whole scheme of things it IS NOT significant.
Compared to who drat??
Spurs, Boro, Small Heath
-
BTW, just my take on the matter. If I was a manager of a PL club and I was informed by the board to announce I would have significant funds available, I would imagine it to be in the region of 18-20 million to buy at least 3 quality players that are valued in the 6 million mark (eg Scott Parker), who could push us forward.
£250,000 net with one free, and the rest costing no more than 1 million each and a striker sold is just laughable I am afraid.
-
Ian, some people are prepaared to have the wool pulled over their eyes again and again. Just judging by the way the votes are panning out, I'd say that is one of the reasons Ellis is still in charge.
-
£250,000 is significant beacuse it shows the rest of the footballing world that we have no ambition. But we're goin to splash the cash before the end of the transfer window so its all going to be fine.
If that is genuine optimism, I'll have a pint of whatever you have just had!
:winkold:
-
Having seen the same situation for the past 20 years 1982, we can safely say there will be no 'significant' spending this year.
BTW, we are a laughing stock when people point out we have spent 6 million when it was touted it would be significant funds. Journalists have already begun to point it out.
I just wonder what would ever happen to AVFC if we had a board like Spurs have?
-
Three people have voted 'yes'
Deluded fools. Ellis has pulled the wool over your eyes again!
-
If we sign Baros we would have spent just over 6 million.
That is not significant considering how much the other clubs have spent. Forget Man ure, Arsenal. Forget Spurs, forget Boro.
I am talking about teams like Charlton who are a small club who have been languishing in Div 2 for years. Teams like Blackburn, small haeth?
As for the 'egg on our faces' comment. Its more to do with why make an announcement about significant funds? You don't hear Spurs saying that? They just go out and spend. Why say you have money to spend when in fact actions speak louder than words and so far we have spent 250,000 net and Baros is not yet a Villa player.
-
Well there have been shed loads of Baros ones but I think this addresses the heart of the problem at VP, that of HDE and the board being a bunch of dirty lying cnuts.
And it makes us a laughing stock of the PL, why make such an announcement? Why not just go out and spend the money and just keep quiet?
Egg on our faces.
-
OK, in light of our mega 250,000 quid sepnd so far (net), and even if Baros signs for the 6 million or so squid touted, that to me is not significant spending. In fact we have been outspent by teams like Charlton, Blackburn, Portsmouth, Middlesbrough and small heath.
It may be a little premature, and the transfer window is still open, but did anyone really beleive it when DOL or whoever it was who asked DOL to announce significant funds were to be made available were telling the truth?
Because I certainly don't and I don't think I ever did.
Even if we count significant as being on par with the above clubs, we haven't matched that.
Truly pathetic.
-
Not another Baros thread!
Why can't we talk about how much of a cnut Doug is instead?
:winkold:
-
No they still lied to us. Enough money for 3 or 4 quality players does not mean 4 cheap ones and one good signing making the net spend 6 or so million.
Woooohooooo! Doug forked out an extra 2 million because he came through the heart op ok!
A leopard never changes his spots and our board and HDE are no different!
-
I can't Townsend, arrogant cockney knob, he was distinctly average for us.
I would take more of that 'averageness' today then
I meant compared to who we had back then.
-
McCann again no contest.
-
If anybody votes for anyone but Taylor they are mad.
I can't Townsend, arrogant cockney knob, he was distinctly average for us.
taylors best moment for me was the league cup final goal vs Leeds. What a strike!
