You are by far the better team but the finishing has been diabolical. Although with these on the counter there is that risk it could end badly. Can’t believe some of them misses though..danny ings as a premier league striker has to bury the one from the coutiniho free kick

They are fighting for him an bar some appalling finishing you should be a couple of goals up..he needs time. Unless you gonna get an absolute elite manager they all need time

Peter. I'd agree you are right about the key decisions, and I'm grateful for once to have a ref who didn't ultimately influence the outcome. But that still doesn't mean his performance was acceptable - just not as bad as some of the shockers we've had to endure. There were quite a few obvious mistakes like giving/not giving corners and throws given the wrong way (for both teams) that had me wondering if he could see straight. The incident where he yellow carded Mings happened a few feet in front of him and was as clear as day a foul on Mings. Mings jumped for the ball and was backed into and taken out mid air, which also endangered him. He gave Everton another one first half when Richarlison was clearly backing into Mings or Konsa rather than being pulled or held. And the non-foul on Ramsey running through when he was clearly kicked. Too easily conned I think. And despite ultimately not influencing the outcome, he seemed to be doing his best by adding 5 minutes from nowhere, and then playing an extra one on top giving Everton one final chance from a corner. You may rate that as acceptable, I think it's a sign of the appalling standards we are used to that some people do, and I'll have to disagree.
I think the Prem/FA really need to invest in the refs. The standard is so poor. When you consider we have the best league in the world it’s not acceptable. Need to put some money into it an no also give the refs some respect an stop the abuse from players

No change then from the last two games
Ha ha I actually think the Everton fans hate him more. A scouser who supported Liverpool as a kid going onto play for Liverpool, win trophies an score against them numerous times. Oh an be better than any midfield player they ever had.
It’s enough to make an evertonian’s balls itch.
They can’t handle it trust me..but the reassuring thing for villa fans is gerrard won’t give a s**t in fact he used to love smashing the blue s**te an hopefully that continues tomorrow -
I can’t stand the blue s**te but I think the sacking of Benitez is not good timing for villa. they will likely have ‘big dunc’ in charge Saturday / they cannot STAND Steven Gerrard (in fact he is probably the person Everton fans hate more than anyone ever) so the crowd an players be well up for it.
you could do with a decent start to calm the place down. Won’t take long for them to direct their bitterness an anger at their players if villa take the lead.

I honestly wouldn’t worry about Coutiniho. I think he is here to play for Gerrard but also to be part of moving villa to the next level.
He has been at Liverpool Barca an bayern. He plays for Brazil..what would be the point of him going to an Arsenal or a Spurs etc??? What would that do for him.
I think providing he performs an gerrard wants him he will be a villa player for a few years. he wants to be somewhere where he is loved like he was at Liverpool an I reckon he has every chance at villa.

no thanks, i think he's one of the most overrated players in the Prem.
I agree. Not a massive fan myself. Although his career has vastly exceeded what I thought he would do

I’m just waiting till your linked with raheem Sterling. I can see that happening in the summer

He's a cheating rat faced, diving, biting little wuck-fit.
But as soon as he scores a winner for Villa in front of the Holte End I will love him more than my own children and never hear a bad word said about him.
That’s what I thought until he came back to anfield an cheated like **** diving round kicking people an in 20 minutes managed to wind up a fan base that previously adored him.
the thing with Suarez is he does not give a f**k
thus is a guy who pissed off the African continent an then danced round after the game celebrating

Ok an 18 month deal on sensible wages, why the hell not? Seriously?
He’s made all his money and if his choice is going back to South America on 20-30k a week (at a push) or coming back to the Prem with two of his mates for 50-60k a week then why not?
We’re not talking about a normal player here, or even a Coutinho, we’re talking about one of the best players to ever play the game. Think about our profile and how it will give the other players a boost. It may even help us lure a couple of players that would never have joined us. And then there is the effect on the younger players.
This would be incredible if it happened. This is Villa and we’ve been subjected to a really tough 10-15 years. Let’s have some fun!
One thing I would say about Suarez is his will to win is unbelievable (like gerrard).
Gerrard may be looking at this as a signing that will help develop the younger players etc as they all say Suarez trains the same way as he plays.(hopefully without the biting).
I don’t think there is a centre back who would enjoy playing against him. Even though he was constantly getting kicked he would always give it back.
When I have seen a few of the Gerrard interviews he clearly doesn’t think the team is aggressive enough. Digne adds a bit an Suarez defo would ha

Suarez was the best forward I have ever seen play for liverpool. Granted dalglish was before my time an rush was on the slide but I rate him higher than Fowler Owen an Torres to name a few obvious ones.
I’ve been really positive about the coutiniho an digne signings on the other threads (top players who can do it for 5 more years) but not sure about this one unless he being signed as a squad player.
he is starting to get injuries an when I have seen him recently clearly isn’t the player who left us.
that said if you want someone who would push his own nan under a bus to win a game of scrabble then maybe he could offer something as a squad player

He's doing ok but you can't say that performance was better than the away game at Manu in the premier with Smith at the helm, it wasn't. Unless your blind to football........
Now Gerrard has a plan to take us forward and I'm looking forward to it but let's stop trying to dismiss what Smith did within Gerrard first few games, let's give him time and judge then , if he can improve us as much as Smith did over his reign then we should be winning the league within 3 seasons , I would accept top 6. UTV
I would suggest that there is big difference between getting a side promoted an stable in the prem to breaking into that top group. That’s why the likes of Steve Bruce an Neil Warnock have numerous promotions on their CV but don’t get near the top end of the league and/or a look in at the top jobs.
Be interesting to see if Gerrard can get you amongst the top 6. I’m sure that it will be his aim. Players like coutiniho an digne haven’t signed to be mid table an I don’t reckon gerrard has either.
The lack of patience in football is staggering at the min an must be at an all time low. Im not a villa fan but I can quite clearly see a step up in performance since Gerrard came in. The game on Saturday was so unfortunate with that early howler - an it’s so difficult to legislate for that.

one of my mates smashed his tele when gerrard scored a hatrick against them once an he is isn’t that bad compared to some of them.

Ha ha I think them 2 signings will make a big difference.
You need more quality from wide - I think from the right too. But I just think it will improve the forwards too as they will get more chances so won’t be snatching at things an players like coutiniho play that early pass which just kills defenders

Just reading few articles on it an it saying he took a pay cut (I appreciate he on daft money..) however he could have earned his current wages at other clubs who would have made up the 100%.
Doesnt surprise me, as in the time he was at Liverpool there was never any issues with him an he always came across humble an someone who wants to play.
Id be really encouraged by it if I was a villa fan as he clearly wants to be part of the project that the club are building.
As a neutral I’m really keen to see him back in the prem as I’m convinced it will be business as usual an you have a lot to look forward to.

i saw one guy on the Everton forum so desperate to claim he was 29 and over the hill, saying that the normal way to ascertain someone's age is to "round age up", so if you are more than 28 and a half, you are 29......he argued it for ages too lol.
They aren’t called the bitters for nothing. Angriest bunch of fans in the country.
Trust me they are not happy with this one but trying to play it down because he not had best start to this season. But their whole season has been a nightmare an they riddled with injuries.
Bottom line is he is one of their best players an was their main creative player last year I believe an before but they now have to try an convince themselves otherwise.
As a liverpool fan I’m naturally delighted that Rafa is continuing to dismantle them from within

Was talking to one of my mates about it today an he was saying to me you reckon be same player who left us.
I think it is a top signing. Coutiniho has the ability to play for anyone in the league - us, city Chelsea anyone.he would not look out of place at city - far from it.
he only 29 he just needs the fans to get behind him an a bit of love from gerrard an co (which I’m sure he will get) an I cannot see why he won’t rip the place up.
not like your signing some 35 year old has been.
yeh it didn’t work out at Barca but what a gig that was..145m signing , iniesta replacement in a team that was on the slide with messi Suarez etc past their best an the crowd on his back as soon as he didn’t display the iniesta messi levels in the first couple of months.
Plus what’s not to like about a player like coutiniho - he is an entertainer

4 hours ago, TRO said:Good, Honest post.....is it because we are twinning Birmingham with Liverpool?... just kidding Brummy humour.
Its natural, that Liverpool fans will watch us with Intrigue.....and Naturally, we will watch back, to see how long we have SG.
But SG has to perform, well for us, for Liverpool to have any real Interest as SG as their manager.....and I also believe, so satisfy our owners burning ambition too.
The one thing, I have always admired about Liverpool, is the pursuit of betterment....never settling for second Best.....I am hoping with NWSE we are too on that train, albeit further down the line.
Sure success comes with a sense of entitlement at times but that can be a by product of the pursuit of trophies.
I have not watched Lucas with close scrutiny, but it appears he is an upgrade on what we have.....so, I hope it goes through.
best of luck to our sister club....
Ha ha I’m not sure about sister.
Il be happy if Klopp stays at liverpool for a very long time as whoever comes in after him has got a hell of a job on his hands trying to compete with city an Chelsea with a fraction of the budget.
don’t get me wrong but I’ve seen plenty of poor liverpool teams but been fortunate to watch some quality ones too!
I don’t think many would begrudge villa a rise up the league an I honestly think digne is a quality player.
I know managers need courage in their convictions but with Rafa he is so **** stubborn if he has had a fall out he will not back down.
digne deffo improves villa I’m pretty positive if he signs in a months time every villa fan will be saying the same thing.
ps defo getting a few quid on you sat..United can’t ride their luck like that again

Thanks and yeah I agree - where Gerrard has improved us elsewhere it’s highlighted the full backs needing to be top level to play his system and we’re short of that at the moment.
They often the outlet aren’t they an need that quality. Similar to ours I suspect digne will at times get caught out of position but that is a calculated risk that most of the top clubs are willing to take now. An it will be why I suspect that the next move gerrard makes will be a holding mid who can get about the pitch an cover them when they do. (If not a right back)

Ha ha I’m a liverpool season ticket holder ha ..from liverpool. Although I like speaking to different fans.
An to be honest with you I always find when you just speak to your own hard to be balanced.
With gerrard coming in I been watching with interest - not because I want him at liverpool..quite happy with klopp! - but as arguably the best player I ever saw play for us it automatically creates that interest.
don’t get me wrong it doesn’t mean to say he will be a great manager but the early signs look good to me.
you were very unlucky tonight but when I compare you to us - which is natural - apart from being more clinical the full backs is the obvious difference. Digne bridges that gap

I would be more worried as a United fan than a villa fan watching that game. Yeh they got through but they are doing **** all this season.
anyone with any sense can see gerrard is improving villa.
countiho an digne will make a massive difference right across the team. Forwards will get so many more chances

While this is a very poor run Gerard needs to be given time surely. Not even been there 12 months?!!?! His 2 signings are significant upgrades on their predecessors.
he is obviously managing a fragile group with a lack of resilience/strength of character. This ongoing talk of captain seems unusual to me an highlights the fact he must be shaking his head at what he is witnessing both in the dressing room and on the pitch.
easy for me to say but I don’t think it’s time to panic yet
