  1. Seems to be a lot of noise past few days regarding Luiz so I think there's definitely something in it. Guess if we do see Villa linked with more midfielders then we know why.

We've been dominating the midfield recently. Things are starting to click. It's the attack not putting away chances. Nothing to do with lacking this mythical VT DM

I agree with the attack not putting away the chances but also felt the team looked a lot more solid when Nakamba started Gerrards first 5 games. If Nakamba was still fit I don't think Luiz is getting much game time (although he would have gone to the AFCON). With the current midfield I can still see a few more Brentford away type of performances in the second half of the season.

It's the same load of need a DM obsession rubbish on here constantly. Our 433 looks great with several options for the middle 3. Luiz Mcginn Ramsey Sanson Chuk. People just love to moan

All are great options for the number 8 positions and is fine for when playing the bottom 6 teams. Coming up against teams in the top half/mid table it doesn't look solid at all.

Hilarious. Every window like spoilt children. We've had it better since NSWE than for a decade before

Disappointment will be more about possibly not signing a DM. It's been a priority for ages. Wouldn't be so bad if Nakamba wasn't injured for so long but if we don't sign one then we are going to see the same frustrations in midfield for the rest of the season.

I'm reading this thread, and I question if I know nothing about football or whether you are watching a different player.

Dougie is class, he could easily play European football and when we get there, we will need players like him.

I like Douglas Luiz. Was expecting once the buy back clause with Man City expired it wouldn't be long before he signed a new deal as the club have been very good in recent times of getting key players to sign new deals but he doesn't want to commit for whatever reason. Think I read in The Athletic recently that it's rare that once players are in the last 6 or 12 months of their contracts  (which will be Luiz in the summer) that they sign a new deal so unfortunately he should be moved on in the summer unless the club spring a surprise announcement before the season ends.

  6. With Hause and now Martinez signing new deals to me it seems like its Luiz whose the one who doesn't want to commit rather than it being because of the club. He will be gone in the summer, hopefully for a decent fee.

  7. Happy his signing a new deal. I know the club have another year option on his original deal but was just expecting him to either be sold in the summer or run down his contract for another year and leaving on a free.

  8. Ideally could have done with Rafa still being in charge for this as was feeling confident of a win but no doubt they will get some sort of manager bounce this weekend whether its a new permanent manager or if Duncan Ferguson is interim (pretty sure he did well as interim last time).

Don't play for a while after this game so be nice to go into the break with a win.

  9. Hopefully Gerrard has seen enough now and won't start both the weekend. Simply doesn't work and never really see them pass to each other during the game. Both haven't been great but I feel Ings is hardly involved in the game so I hope going forward it's a Coutinho/Watkins/Buendia front three with Ings and Bailey coming off the bench (when Bailey is fit).

  10. Can't stop watching some of his highlights from the Man Utd game. Every time he gets the ball just feel like his going to make something happen. Hopefully we will see him and Coutinho link up behind Ings/Watkins starting this weekend.

  11. After the performance last week I am not as confident about this game as I was this time last week. Gutted Watkins is injured as i'm excited to see Watkins/Ings/Bailey/Buendia and see how good the team really looks but looks like going to have to wait even longer. I'd imagine after last weekend Targett will be getting targeted by ASM, thats my big worry. Really don't want to see El Ghazi and Young start as wingers when the line up comes out, i'd imagine it will be a 4-3-3 with El Ghazi, Ings and Buendia with Ramsey coming in unless Douglas Luiz is ready to start.

Majority of home teams won last weekend so hopefully that trend continues, expect Villa to come flying out the traps first 10-15 mins. Predicting a 2-1 win.

  12. Before the game wasn’t confident as playing a newly promoted side away with fans back in the stadium for the first time in 18 months was going to be tough, had stoke away vibes and when saw the starting line up with El Ghazi and Ashley Young playing as wingers I just didn’t see where the creativity was going to come from. Hopefully we will never have to see them two starting as our wingers for the rest of the season.

Not sure how Watford’s pre-season was but could tell in the first half Targett/Cash just looked off the pace. After the first goal went in was frustrating that the second goal happened after a deflection as it was a very much up hill battle from there.

Can only be a positive that the midfield issue and this performance happened whilst the transfer window is still open rather than next month so hopefully a CM is signed in the next couple of weeks. Touchwood for Newcastle should have Watkins, Buendia, Ings and Bailey all available to start and we should see a much much better performance in front of a packed Villa Park.

  13. Hello
