    the 3rd one

we buy £200m worth of players to suit his system, its still shit, we ditch him and none of those players work with the next managers system and are too old and on too big wages to be sold

    we're all dooooooomed

The only real difference between players for his system and not for his system is that there are no wingers involved for his system. He still needs to repair the CM, which is the same as any manager, and the players he's likely to be able to bring in to do that would still fit in a midfield that also has wingers. Modern football is 3 in the middle, so the difference is whether it's a narrow 3 ahead of that, or a wide 3. If performances don't pick up and he gets the boot, we shouldn't need major surgery for anyone who comes in thereafter, as they'd likely just need a couple of wingers

You mean brand grealish that's about to sign a record deal with gucci?

Yup, I do. 12 months ago there were articles about him in women's magazines, he was the most exciting player in the premier league, there was blanket sports coverage in the UK and overseas about him. Now he's barely mentioned. The Gucci thing has probably been in the works for a while.

I know that. Sometimes it's still poor, it depends on the acoustics of the room. Wouldn't have worked in this case anyway - the mixing desk was on the stage, over at one side. Go figure.

That’ll be why it sounded crap then lol

  4. Random thought, but I'm really surprised that there doesn't exist software that will use historical match data from all the top 5 leagues from, say, the last 10 years, to identify the optimal position for every player on the pitch given every possible position of the ball, opposition, and teammates, whether in attack or defence

Something where basically you create the scenario by positioning the opposition and ball, sticking in the phase of play conditions, and then having it spit out where the mathematically sound best area for every one of your players to be is, as well as transitioning through the likely outcomes based on the opposition team and players

Obviously it'd potentially ruin the game, but given some of the tech they're using now, I'm amazed this isn't a thing yet

If rumours are true, the midfield three next season could be Bissouma, McGinn, Ramsey.

Bissouma is a good player but I’m not sure about the composition of that trio. One runner, one fighter and one who is a bit of both. Is there enough ball playing skills?

Need to upgrade McGinn too IMO

  6. One thing to note is that when I blocked a user, the first time it brings you to a new page that asks what content you want to block - make sure to actually tick what you want to block on there or they'll be blocked,  but none of their content will (so they won't be blocked at all, basically)

Thank you!   I'm off to have fun pressing that button on the usual suspects!

Not sure who the usual suspects are just yet, but from my short time here I've reached my limit with some in particular basically posting "Gerrard is rubbish sack him" in basically every single active thread on the site for the past few weeks. Fine with that opinion, but shoehorning it into every single discussion becomes tiresome very quickly

Has Digne been better? For 25 million and 80k a week more

Yeah, he has been better. That’s not saying much, but do you not remember us getting targeted (no pun intended) down our left game after game after game while Matty was playing? He was brilliant last year, but a pub player this year, for whatever reason

How many times has he been an unused sub since January. There's your answer. I know Digne keeps getting injured an we have to use Young as a sub but he's third off the rank compared to Bailey and Bunedia so that shows you where he is in the pecking order.

Not sure anyone will pay what we signed him for so might have to be a season long loan.

In todays market he’s a bargain for what we paid for him

For a former midfielder and supposed premier league great he really has no idea how to set up the midfield.

And I mean if that isn't ringing huge alarm bells for any Villa fan then I don't know what else would.

I’m not actually sure we have sufficient players to set up anything but a bottom 8 standard midfield. Several very good players, but we basically have 4 sides of a box - it’s useless without the other bits

The obvious solution is to reduce the size of the goals.

I know this isnt the womens football thread, but its something that pisses me off...

The standard of goalkeeping is awful in general - there's never an admittance that a keeper should have saved a shot or held a cross under no pressure that's been floated in. Pundits are terrified to criticise mistakes/poor play. Male players get slaughtered, and I appreciate that the media spotlight is different, but there's a reluctance to admit what are glaringly poor players/errors.

I think reducing the size of the goals (and possibly the pitch, but that's a seperate debate) would make a huge difference.

The reason they won’t do that is because it’s require separate gear for the women’s game, and most grassroots pitches etc wouldn’t be able to afford it. Having everything the same specs makes it more likely for the women’s game to remain accessible
