This will be hilarious. I’m honestly not bothered, nor surprised by this. If they want to go off and form another league, great, let them.

Football is so, so corrupt and broken. I don’t know why I bother with it. Probably because I sat in the Holte End all them years ago. Probably because my dad and his dad before him stood on the Holte End all them years ago.

But just look at what it is now. VAR, FFP, club ownership, TV rights, the salaries of players. It’s f****** rubbish.

Im a villa fan but football is really, really s***.

I have nothing of that history, but I simultaneously can't turn away, while seeing how obviously messed up it is.

American sports are way more open and meritorious than football has been for the last 20 years.

This, in a way, is the crux of it. American sports have great parity, which is really great. But it comes at a cost and is based on a fundamentally different system than football does. It would be really great if you could get the parity of, say, the NFL, but you can't do that when you have relegation/promotion.

Hinchcliffe was inferring in the commentary that Watkins had a shot on goal which came to Amwar as a fluke. You can see Ollie look up and place the cross, how can he not see that.

I saw that was how it was described in a bunch of post-match write ups, but I never thought that when it happened. I haven't looked since, but a consensus seems to have formed around that conclulsion.

As a grass routes coach I agree on all points above. That sort of stuff gets forgotten when you are winning, it can be an issue when you aren’t.

Right, and one other thing I'll add: Almost all of the time, the first person to recognize a mistake was made was the one who made the mistake. Telling someone who knows they screwed up that they screwed up very often doesn't improve the chances of the outcome that everyone wants: for players to not make mistakes.

Absolutely. I couldn’t agree more. Yesterday Cash had to deal with a tricky ball over the top in the second half and he turned to Martinez and shouted “*^%* off. What the *^%+ing hell was that call?” I assume because had told him time or man on etc and he didn’t agree.

I’ve seen several examples of that, players challenging each other holding each other to account, that is what good players and good sides so. It is a fine line making sure it is done in the right way but that comes down to the character of the players and the manager. You just know characters like Cash and Martinez post match will be completely different.

I met Cash a few times when he was at Forest and my lad was there, you couldn’t meet a nicer guy.

"Fine line" indeed. As a coach (teenagers, mind you), I tell players to constantly give positive reinforcement even if (when) mistakes are made. I will do the job of critiquing. It's so easy for it to spin out of control. Obviously these are professionals, so there is probably more lee way, but if results start turning negative, it can create a toxic atmosphere. My 2 cents

I like the Wilson move in theory but signing a 28 y/o player with 2 ACL injuries and another knee injury last year makes me nervous. I hope the medical is thorough!

Was it Micah Richards where we signed him but couldn’t get insurance cover for his knee issues so he he sat around for the duration of his contract not playing instead of being cut loose?

A ton of people have brought his ACL tears, but it should be a non-factor. Athletes completely recover from ACL tears now.

You could gather a decent “championship 11” tbf

Henderson , Grealish, Mount , Boly ,Neves just to name a few Dele Ali used to play in the championship good players from the championship are good players regardless of their experience

How would this "team of the season" (which includes Cash) do in the Premier League?  I suspect they would be decent. https://www.90min.com/posts/90min-s-championship-team-of-the-season-2019-20

Same price maybe but if Watkins is £25mill and Wilson is £10mill + Hogan or just £15mill I'd go Wilson everyday of the week. Could enable us to sign someone else and guarantees goals in this league

Worthwhile consideration. To add to the cost-benefit: Wilson would have basically no re-sale value, but Watkins might. Also, would they both demand the same wages? I suspect Wilson would demand a fair bit more.

Yeah, I agree. His quality was obvious. What was missing was he was making unforced errors, sometimes getting caught on the ball, getting by-passed at times. All those things happen a fair bit to players arriving from foreign leagues, or for that matter, lower English leagues. It seems like, from the outside, he has benefitted from some clarity being given to him about exactly what his role needed to be, exactly how to play that role and from his team mates also knowing he'd be there doing that job. The quality he has, in terms of his shooting, passing, ability with the ball will always be there. It just using them to benefit the team, and not to put the team in danger at the wrong time.

One of the things that is also clear post-lock down--and this might have something to do with confidence in what his role is--is ridiculous amount of running and energy. If anyone was trying to prove how much they wanted it on the pitch, it was Douglas. And not to be too harsh, but compare his running and energy to, say, McGinn.

he talked back to the ref a lot, i'll give you that. Tracking back was 50/50 on whether he did or not, not dissing him as a player but he wasn't always the work horse your claret and blue tinted glasses claim, especially towards the end of the season. Nor would i expect him to track back either, he's a lone striker. He often tracked back when he lost the ball, i'll give you that also.

He was the hardest working striker that Villa has had in my decade or so of following Villa. Name someone who came close.

    On a serious note though.

Most i've met who are "American", are from there.

Yes, there is, and the first Somali- American congressional representative was just elected from there (also targeted by trump with racist comments today).... anyway... this Luiz guy is in Minneapolis for one reason...

Looking at his stats and his skillset, he's Axle Tuanzebe. Which would make him the signing of the summer if he can be that good.

And if you watch that highlight video, were it not for distinguishing features, it would be *very* easy to confuse them. It was uncanny how similarly they look in how they play. (Mind you, it's just a highlight video).

  13. 17 minutes ago, Keyblade said:

Watching his highlights video and he looks almost like a clone of Tuanzebe. We definitely seem to have a type.

    This was precisely my thought.

Don't know how reliable he is, but it was a BBC journalist called Adam Pope, who said that was the figure he'd heard. Didn't sound very optimistic about him staying at Leeds though.

  15. Obviously stoked about being here now, but let's be honest, the Championship is a better competition. Not in terms of talent of course, but in that it's so unpredictable.

Now that we're in the Premier League, my expectations are currently very low. That's a good thing. Let's just win a few games and avoid the scare of relegation. Go from there. K. thanks. bye
