What stats? He's playing most of every game, they appear to be in decent form.

Marv is hardly expected pass or shoot, let alone get any assists or goals, so his WhoScored ratings are never going to be great.

Basically every single stat aside from his tackling is not good. I’m not saying he’s shit or the team is playing poorly, just that his stats don’t look good.

On the topic of whoscored ratings, specialist DMs like him are very capable of posting good ratings there without goals and assists anyway. Kante posted a 7.61 rating which is insanely high the year Leicester won the title for example.

if there are players who I think are underrated via whoscored’s system, it would actually be DMs who are less physical and more passing oriented because they don’t have the defensive nor the attacking stats to boost their rating. High passing accuracy tends to be meaningless when it doesn’t lead to high amount of key passes.

I would be interested to read up on how Nakamba is playing/doing at Luton, their fans views etc, but i cant even find something remotely resembling a proper fans forum for Luton.

If anyone knows of one....let me know!

I don’t know what Luton fans think of him, but his stats there so far do not look good.

Bailey is good but only as a left winger. It’s definitely a problem.
Go to the stats of Bundesliga and you’ll find his best stats are when he’s playing left. It’s not only about stats for goals and assists. But the consistent threat.

Tbh, his stats looks about the same to me either wing.

170 minutes per goal or assist on the left wing

170 minutes per goal or assist on the right wing.

He's had more total goals and assists on the left but that's primarily because he played more on the left than on the right at Leverkusen.

What about every other season where he's had very good goal contribution rates? Do they not count either? Even when he had limited minutes at Chelsea he was putting numbers up.

Nobody cares what he did 5,6,7 years ago for christ's sake.

  5. Not sure if he actually fouls him, but regardless you can't put your hands on a player like that. If he falls, its always gonna look like you pulled him down even if that's not the case.

His stats are high, including his progressive carries and passing stats (2.19 and 3.32). Mings stats are 0.44 and 2.50 in comparison.

He’s also got good tackles won and interception stats as well as dribbler challenged stats.

What do we think he’d cost, £15m? £20m?

Its the Championship though. Comparison with Mings is a bit unfair considering the differing standards of football. But yes, overall I agree his stats look good.

Sofascore and transfermarkt rate him at about 10m. Seems a bit low.

Why is he playing at such low level?

He couldn’t cut it at league 1 first half of this season, so they moved him down a league

I was very excited that he was coming back. And I never expected him to play more than a few sub appearances.

He was brought in because we didn't buy a new forward. He is a cover in case Bailey/Buendia/Watkins/Coutinho are out.

It was a great move - rather than restricting ourselves to the tricky January window, we've given ourselves essentially a free cover until we can actually improve in that position in the summer.

It was a very good, smart move.

Yeah that doesn’t compute for me. You can think its a good move to bring him back, I certainly agree, but if you don’t even expect him to step foot on the pitch more than a couple times than that level of excitement seems a tad extreme no?And judging by the way people talked about us bringing him back, people definitely expected him to play a lot more than just a couple sub appereances.

It seems to me that the hype around his return was mostly driven by people who were desperate for a reason to defend our  lack of transfer business in January.

Yea people might think we are referring to the goals/assists but his tackles, passing etc are all in the top 5-10% for pretty much every metric

To put it into further perspective, I think those stats are undisputadly better than what Kamara showed in his last season in ligue 1. Although yes it seems like he's a lot more attacking oriented than him but still.

I get that but as our RM who’d be the better pick up?

Just a random name but how about ademola lookman? Can play right-wing although probably not his best position. Currently tearing up Serie A with a goal every 115 minutes. Sofascore and Transfermarkt evaluate him at 20m euros, although I think we'd be comfortable with paying up to 30m. Can probably double his salary too and Atalanta might not finish in a european spot this season.

Sign 1 that your central defenders aren't doing their job: When they are drawn to the ball and off their man.

Konsa is marking no-one - may as well replace him with those cut-outs they use when practicing free-kicks.

Mings is on the wrong man and completely unaware of what is behind him because he's too far forward- since he's been drawn towards the ball.

Anyone remember Dunne and Collins? They used to get opened up easily because Collins was always drawn to the ball (and then doing last ditch slide tackles) which left Dunne trying to cover both positions.

In this picture, it's Digne trying to cover that position.

This sounds just like the second Leicester goal scored

McPhee was livid when the second goal went in.

That’s actually hilarious. He’s so animated, like some kind of cartoon villain

Honestly, this.  It's been completely lost in translation.  Emery says something like "I never ask my goalkeepers to go forward because there's a 5% chance we score from that but a 20% chance the opposition score on the break".  It's not him criticising Martinez, it's him saying that the goalkeeper going forward doesn't add anything and then he goes on to say where we were bad.

If he says he would never tell the goalkeeper to go forward then why was Martinez forward? Do you think Emery saw Martinez saunter up the pitch and just went “oh well, I would never tell him to do this, I explicitly think this is a bad idea, but I’m just gonna let it happen anyway”. Him stating that he would never tell the goalkeeper to do this implies that its a criticism of Martinez.

    After 10 games....

    Gerrard 13 pts......Emery  16 pts

Now, I think its widely accepted, that UE is a far superior manager....but the results are hardly much different.....The system has been changed, so its hard to blame that......there's not much left, to blame.

Also pretty sure your maths is wrong. Both were on 16 points after 10 league games.

That does not seem to be particularly old if he was good enough.

If he’s good enough, of course it doesn’t matter how old he is. The problem is we don’t know if he is good enough. And the problem with his age is that if he isn’t good enough, its much less likely that he will develop into a players that could be good enough in the future.

Lets say Azaz gets a loan next season in the championship and he fails to impress. Do we cut our losses on him then? Well the club is far more likely to do that compared to if he was only say 19 years of age. The odds of a 24 year old player suddenly improving from not being good enough for the championship to being good enough for a pl club like us just isn’t very high.

That story is mental to me.

Firstly, I don't think we should be looking to sell him. I've said before that selling him is certainly an option. I think it's very possible he'll want to leave and his stock will never be higher so it would be good business to listen to offers as the fee would be astronomical.

But I don't think we should be openly looking to sell him.

Also, advertising the fact is also mental. Don't let clubs know that we want to sell him.

Yeah you don’t normally go openly announcing something like that for a player with such a high asset value, especially for a club that doesn’t need to sell like us.

It strikes me as if something serious has gone on behind the scene with him to the point where we must either really want to sell him or we must really think we can’t keep him beyond the summer.

I think his mentality has changed since Cutler left, and that has affected his decision making.

Cutler left in Oct-22. His goals against per minute is terrible compared to when he joined. Obviously i see that the whole defence is responsible for Goals Against, but numbers is numbers.

To be honest, with those stats, I'd be looking to replace him anyway.

    (Stats from FBRef).

Fbref has much better stats for goalkeepers you can use. The picture they paint is that he was genuinely world class in 20/21, but was only average in 21/22. Even this season his stats are only decent.

I know we all love Emi but lets be honest, despite his international exploits, he hasn’t been an elite keeper in the league for a long while. He’s merely been alright. Not irreplaceable.

Other than a six game spell in October and November Kesler started most weeks for Huddersfield, he started five of his last seven appearances for them and in one of the games that he didn't start he came on at half-time. If Cash is sold then we will obviously bring in a replacment, and a decision will have to be on whether Kesler is ready to be back-up or not, maybe the plan is to give him some game time before the end of this season to help with making that decision.

Huddersfield played 23 league games when he was there. He only started for 9 of them.

Didnt we lose Heaton and Steer in the same game. Rare but has happened

I feel like this happened as well but after googling it, but I don't think its quite true as the lineups for the game where Steer got injured didn't include Heaton whatsoever, just Nyland and Steer. Heaton must've been injured before the match itself which explains why we had Nyland on the bench.

This is the most interesting bit to me:

"We are not taking risks. Football is to play. We have to make combinations and be the protagonists. We are not doing it."

We try to play safe too much.

Interestingly, our passing accuracy was actually lower than usual for that match at 75.7 percent. That's quite a low number in general. If that was us playing it safe, I shudder to think how low it would be if we were taking risks.

We’ve been relegated and promoted in the last 8 years or so, and been to Wembley 4 or 5 times across a similar period. Surely the likes of Everton and West Ham are far more middling (albeit that might change this May…)

Our average league position for the entire premier league era is 12.4(assuming we count championship positions as position number 21, 22 and so on).

Everton is probably the most middling club in the pl with average position of 10.4 but after that, its between us, Newcastle and West Ham.
