I’d happily be a last pay day to an older, experienced CB. If they still had the right mentality and no injury issues, and the wages were right for us. Someone for Mings and Konsa to learn from, and there to play 10-15 games where needed.

JT get fit and get your boots back on 😜

You can't please some folks. Fans moaning we aren't buying enough players and the moment we do, they moan about the price. I'm sure the fact that he was voted Championship Player of the Year recently added a couple of million to his price tag.

True, but really believe this lad is the real deal.

Sorry Rob, Its not arrogance, But I can see the issues as clear as a bell...football is simple and yes it is a careful evaluation.

You can build a whole squad all day long, but if the balance is not right, it becomes a fruiltless exercise.

I can't really help you if you can't see what I am saying.

Hogan Didn't run rings around us, thats a myth.

No one has a crystal ball, and no your can't predict who will and who won't be a succesful signing.......but the ones who do, do it have nous and foresight and above all create balance in a team....we can't have a team full of Jack Grealish's as tempting as it might be.

But The Saunders and his team, built a balanced squad as did Leicester......Man Utd have Faultered since Ferguson.....Why, because the balance is not right....these guys knew what was needed where.

Our midfield has been woeful for some time, that's not by accident, it's by managers not beeing focused on the task in hand.....They have all took too long for the penny to drop.

as an example, Hourhane has a wand of a left foot, but does little else, we are blinded by it......that has been left unattended for too long, he is limited and we have too many limited players trying to keep us up in a league, where the opposition will fight for every ball.

Ignore ,what I am saying, I don't care.....but I want us to stay up and snowflakes like Jota and the like, won't keep us up

  4. We are all panting for strikers, but they ain't gonna be of any use if we can't get the ball in the opposition half. Our dire midfield needs sorting first. And don't tell me Drinkwater is the answer.

I think some of the extreme doom and gloom is a bit misplaced.

Defeat at Spurs - was always going to be a tough game but we defended well for most of it

Defeat to Bournemouth - were the better team on balance but undone by a couple of stupid errors, and the officiating didn't help

Win over Everton - played well and won deservedly

Defeat at Palace - played poorly, but literally the only reason we didn't get a point here is because of corrupt or incompetent officials

It's a long season, but so far I've not seen anything which suggests we're not capable of staying up.

I would echo that. Corrupt officials are at all levels of football, even the Prem imo.

He's played rb for his career. Coming to the hardest league in the world and you want him to play in a completely new position? Good right wingers struggle in this league, i dread to think how a converted right back with no prem experience or experience of the position would get on.

Didn't Gareth Bale started his career as a full back?

I think John McGinn is still awesome, but in the first two games he has repeatedly tried to take on 2 or three players and been pushed off the ball easily, he needs to keep the ball and pass quicker, there is even less space to operate in. I think he will learn quickly and adapt. I just think him and Grealish would benefit from more protection so they can play through the middle. Grealish shouldn't be playing so deep and giving the ball away.

I think Nakamba is a defensive unit, I don't think Luiz is specifically a defensive midfielder.

For certain games I would play the below, have Targett and Guilbert play as wingbacks. Grealish and Trez can come inside or go wide. Elmo can play in that system also, Taylor has improved defensively just doesn't seem to have a clue in the final third.

    ----------------- Heaton
    Guilbert - Mings - Engels - Targett

    --------------- Nakamba -----------
    -------- Luiz --------- Mcginn ----
    ------ Grealish ------ Trez -------
    --------------- Wes ------------------

That would be my team, too.

    Ahead of Douglas?

It's interesting because if Nakamba is getting in the team then that probably means Douglas on the bench.

Or, it won't be popular, either Grealish or McGinn lose their place, Douglas plays further forward and Nakamba plays deeper.

I don't imagine Nakamba will play anywhere but in the deeper defensive position based on what I know about him.

Can see Douglas and Nakamba in the team in the not too distant. Bring Targett and Guilbert in to provide the width and drop El Ghazi ( who needs a kick up the arse, anyway ).

Ref was just awful all game. Let Sanchez get away with these fouls all game, one of them crucially for what was a clear penalty.

I'm sure brown envelopes are still part and parcel of pro football.

Purslow is a world class ceo if there ever was such categories in the the world of Ceo’s he has seen it and done it all. We look like a club again. We really need to stay up though. Then next season will be the start of the 30-50 million players coming to Villa .

I'm sure that Purslow and Smith have enough nous that if things aren't going too well come January, more funds will be available.

Am I the only one thinking it's a bit weird how long it takes us to sign Marvelous, while spotting more links to Santa Maria and Phillips? Probably just rubbish rumours, but it's a bit odd

No, me too, Marvelous may well be the smokescreen for one of the other 2 you mention.

yeah mate but come on, what about Hourihane?, Douglas needs to earn his place, no player can just walk in to the team at Villa, Hourihane has shown he can play there and played at DM while getting us promoted, Douglas probably isnt even that good, never played a game in the Prem, no experience in the Prem, Hourihane is the nailed on starter for me, maybe Douglas will get his chance after 6 months or so, but i dont expect much, he's young and inexperienced, and he doesnt speak english, how will he talk to Hassan?, or Wesley?, i mean he might speak Wesley's language but they might be 40ft apart on the pitch........will they shout?, cant see it working.

Is Douglas a DM or an MC or an AMC also?, we sure he knows where he is playing?, why would be want 2 brazilians in the first team anyway?, overrated, didnt they lose 7-1 to Germany?, we need more germans.

    also Douglas is 5ft 9.......a 5ft 9 DM?, u gotta be havin a laff.

Hourihane is the man, trust me.

Also, sentiment is important boys, Taylor is the man, proved it over the season, got promoted with him at LB, what more do u want??, same for Green at RW........you ppl dont know what ur talking about.

    Best chuckle of the night.
