  1. Villa fans baffle me at times.

Who were people expecting? José Mourinho? We’ve never appointed a more successful manager than Gérard Houllier and there’s literally nobody with a better CV who we could attract – in or out of work. Jol got fired by Spurs as they’d failed to meet their goals, same with Hughes. Goals that were the same as ours.

It seems to me that a lot of this comes down to bragging rights amongst fellow fans. We wanted Hitzfeld or Koeman or Klinsmann because it’s something shiny and new that nobody else in the Prem has had. Liverpool's former boss Houllier? It’s like going out with one of your mates’ exes.

People are moaning that he sold Carew. Yep, he signed him in the first place too. They’re moaning that he signed Heskey. Yep, Heskey scored more goals under Houllier than the rest of his career put together (a guess but likely true).

Played boring football did he? What? Worse than Spain have for the last 4 years? Or Villa for that matter.

If he signs the type of crap players he did at Liverpool and the team perform as badly as his did there I'm looking forward to seeing strikers score over 20 goals per season, more trophies than we've won in the last 30 years and the majority of his players go on to win the Champions League within months of him departing VP.

    What this fella said.

  2. If we're going for a manager not currently in a job. There is no excuse for why they couldn't have been in to conduct transfer business.

If you'd prefer Randy to rush into appointing a manager, without identifying and interviewing other candidates, then yes there's no excuse. Thankfully our chairman has a bit more about him and will make an informed decision once he knows what options are available and what they can bring to the table. Getting the right man in, regardless of their current employment status, will take time.

  3. I wonder if the new manager would have wanted Milner or Ireland? The lack of a manager didn't stop us from completing that bit of business did it?

Milner, the player that had his head turned by Manchester City? The player who we received a massive fee for in a deal that had already been put into motion before MON's resignation?

It's irrelevant if a new manager wanted Milner - Milner wanted a move

  4. I was asking BOF who he would have played instead of Beye. What's Warnock got to do with anything? He wasn't in the squad. Whether Warnock should have been in the squad (or the starting eleven for that matter) is a different discussion entirely.
It's not a different discussion at all. You asked who I'd play at left back. My answer was someone who was available to MacDonald and is on our books. That he chose Beye instead of Warnock was his mistake and it cost us the group stages. That one single selection directly cost us 2 goals. And yes, I could have told you that before kick off. Beye in his preferred position is a disaster. Dropping an England leftback to take that **** cabbage and put him in an unfamiliar position would be hilarious if it wasn't a) true and B) done at Villa.

Warnock wasn't in the squad for a reason. I don't know why but he wasn't. McDonald made a decision to leave him out. Whether that was the right or wrong decision is irrelevant. For what it's worth I agree - Warnock should have played.

My question was, other than Warnock (as he wasn't in the squad that day) who would you have played? It was a genuine question. If Warnock isn't available, who would you play at left-back?

    Jeez

  5. re- Beye, MacDonald probably thought "this right back who is absolutely shite AT right back and who is no better at centre back, might be brilliant at left back. His positioning which is so bad at right back might be perfect at left back where he won't go missing at all". Yes, no-one could have possibly foreseen that Beye would even out-do his own high standards at left back where he was even worse than usual, directly cost us 2 goals and almost single-handedly sent us out of Europe.

    Who would you have played?

  6. Appoint MacDonald and he'll be gone at the end of the season and we'll be starting once again. We'll flirt with the drop zone and the worse teams than us we do us a favour and be even worse and he'll be asked to step down.

I can't shake off that feeling that there are many on here who are desperate for the Villa to fail this season.

The well of top class managers is dry, although a few VTers could perhaps start a football manager recruitment agency, as it is clearly easy to appoint a manager at this time.

If it's KMac, so be it. Let's support him and the club.

    Couldn't agree more, thetrees

  7. We have a list of candidates. I don't believe for a second Kevin McDonald is our first choice. I trust Randy and I believe everything Paul said in his statement. "Two of the traits we believe are of crucial importance are that candidates have experience of managing in the Premier League and a strategy for building on the existing strengths in our current squad." A manager with previous Premier League experience is not Kevin McDonald.

    However...

If the manager we're looking for can't be prized away from their club (let's face it getting someone like Moyes [for example] isn't going to be easy) I'd rather have Kevin McDonald put in charge for a season than get a second-rate manager in just for the sake of it (i.e Curbishley, Pulis or frickin' Pardew)

If Kevin McDonald is appointed I am not going to blame Randy and start spouting this "We've been lied to!" bollocks. Randy will appoint the best man for the job out of who is available - if that's Kevin, so be it.
