Depressing that this money sponge and Richards are still being paid by the club. Every time I see an update for either, I am initially elated, as I immediately think they have gone, only to be instantly depressed.

When does his contract end?
2020 unfortunately, so he's on the books till the end of next season unless the club pays him off.

Would keep Bree, De Laet, Lansbury and Elphick from AvfcRigo82s list and would add Jedinak as he is pretty much like Whelan (too old, slow etc)and Kodjia as he seems far too injury prone. As for the rest of your list of players, I think its sell or release. In Richards and McCormacks cases, release both from an airplane at 30000 ft without a parachute!!!

Anyone notice, that we seem to think we are the only club in the universe that is going to have some FFP problems?
Other teams, (and I think there will be possibly 9 or 10)will be in the same boat, but have their fans gone into panic meltdown like us, have they feck!!!
Lets just wait and see, and in the words of CPL Jones "Don't Panic".

As I said, I got the info in the last 24 hours off transfermkt, which said the contracts ended when stated.
It will be interesting to see the full retained and released list from the EFL, which is out some time next month.Then we'll know for certain who we've got to play with/sell on.
-
checked the contract details via transfermkt and they are out of contract end of June 2018, unless of course they have recently signed new contracts.
-
As I've previously posted, the following players are out of contract by end of June 2018;
Terry, Bunn, Hutton, Samba, Agbonlahor, Sarkic, Watkins, Abdo, Blackett-Taylor, Borg, Pastorek, Prosser, Coates, Cox, Idem, Johansson, Stretch, Boucher, Bazeley-Graham, Williams, Rowe, McKirdy and Doyle-Hayes.
Finnerty and Hall have recently been sold.
That will reduce the wage bill by a fair amount, and we won't (in my opinion) miss too many of them, if any.

As previously posted in the end of season chop list, the following is a list of players who are out of contract from the end of this season to 202/22
At the end of this season;
Terry, Bunn, Hutton, Samba, Agbonlahor, Sarkic, Watkins, Abdo, Blackett-Taylor, Borg, Prosser, Pastorek, Clarke, Clark, Finnerty, Coates, Knibbs, Cox, Hall, Idem, Johansson, Stretch, Boucher, Bazeley-Graham, Williams, Rowe.
2019;
Richards, Whelan, De Laet, Jedinak, Elphick, Green, Davis, Steer, Lyden, McKirdy, Suliman, O'Hare, Mooney, Gil, Pressley, Revan, Walker, Guy, Patterson, Birch(J), Ige, Ramsey, Birch(M), Tait, Brunt,Sea, Odutayo, Hooper.
2020;
Bjarnason, Chester, Elmohamady, Kodjia, Grealish, Adomah, McCormack, Gardner, Hepburn-Murphy, Doyle-Hayes, Tshibola, Bedeau, Gollini.
2021/22;
Hourihane, Lansbury, Taylor, Bree, Hogan.We won't know who to replace, that's all dependent on where we are (Premiership/Championship).
In my opinion, try to keep Terry for one more season, regardless of where we are,and only keep Hutton if we don't go up.
Other than that, if we do go up, I think we would need a goalie, at least one full back, at least one decent centre half, a DM, at least one winger, and a goal scorer. maybe a couple of midfielders too, if we get rid of some of the "dead wood".

Do any of you know where I can buy the away shirt 2016-2017 season (mainly white by Under Armour) in a size XL? I've told the kids that they can get it me for fathers day, but having looked on the internet it does look like anywhere has my size. Any ideas, apart from going on a diet?

I'd be interested in the results of a poll as to whether VT'ers think Gabby should be on the bench or not.
I am firmly in the "get the **** out" camp for him, but, there's a little of me that thinks him being on the bench might make some difference.
Totally agree, the only bench he should be on, is a f***ing park bench!!!

I have posted about rebuilding, but having looked at the contract end dates of all of the players I can find as definitely being on the books, below is a who's who of players and their contract end dates. (Info from AVFC website,Transfermkt,Wikipedea,Google amongst others.)
At present, we definitely have 74 players (1st team, reserves and academy) on the books.
Out of contract at end of season (2018) 26 players.
Out of contract 2019 30 players.
Out of contract 2020 13 players.
Out of contract 2021/2 5 players.
At the end of this season;
Terry, Bunn, Hutton, Samba, Agbonlahor, Sarkic, Watkins, Abdo, Blackett-Taylor, Borg, Prosser, Pastorek, Clarke, Clark, Finnerty, Coates, Knibbs, Cox, Hall, Idem, Johansson, Stretch, Boucher, Bazeley-Graham, Williams, Rowe.
2019;
Richards, Whelan, De Laet, Jedinak, Elphick, Green, Davis, Steer, Lyden, McKirdy, Suliman, O'Hare, Mooney, Gil, Pressley, Revan, Walker, Guy, Patterson, Birch(J), Ige, Ramsey, Birch(M), Tait, Brunt,Sea, Odutayo, Hooper.
2020;
Bjarnason, Chester, Elmohamady, Kodjia, Grealish, Adomah, McCormack, Gardner, Hepburn-Murphy, Doyle-Hayes, Tshibola, Bedeau, Gollini.
2021/22;
Hourihane, Lansbury, Taylor, Bree, Hogan.
So who would you give a new contract to? -

If only this were true!!!
£7m for McCormack and Elphick!!!!!!
Leeds fan forum talking about this. Probably untrue, if the two club rule includes playing in the A League, and stops them signing McCormack.

Also looking at Chris Martin apparently.
1 goal in 23 for Derby, very much a cold player in terms of form
Is this one of them ghost stories, or have you had a rush of blood to the head?

The list being the majority of our squad that will be left after contract expirys and loans ending will look something like:
Steer, Gollini
De Laet, Bree, Elmohammady, Chester, Elphick, Green, Taylor.
Adomah, Thishbola, Lansbury, Jedinak, Whelen, Lyden, Grealish, Hourihane, Gardner, Bjarnasson,
Hogan, McCormack, Davis
That is the squad we would be left with come June 2018 if we where promoted. Scary!
The bold for me highlights the players that will not cut it in the premier league now and would need to be moved on.
The underlined represents our own who we would look to loan out to a team in this league and not yet ready for PL yet.
The remainder I feel would do well amongst a new team which is what would be required, however. It could be a task offloading some of the others.
Would it be a bad thing, if the above squad was all we had come June 2018?? I for one would be the proverbial " Over the moon" if our squad does look like this in June.

Hi BOF could you please tell me if the 41 player list on page 1 is up to date, as I was under the impression that Swift and Watkins were released. I'm sure Swift plays for Margate and Watkins did play for Slough (not sure if we re signed him). Reason I'm asking , is I'm playing FM 18 and wanted an up to date full squad list that the club website doesn't provide.

Carlos Sanchez was sold on July 1st to Fiorentina for £2.5m, and as previously stated, Vertout has been sold not loaned out! Cissokho has also been sold.
As for the rest;
Gollini make a decision as to keep or sell at the end of his loan spell, unless someone makes a bid.
Richards fit with concrete boots and drop off somewhere in the Atlantic, if we can't afford to pay him off.
Hutton if as we are led to believe, Sheffield are interested, then sell,sell,sell!
Amavi do not loan to anyone, Unless a sale at the end of the loan is written into loan contract! Any formal bids, then sell,sell,sell!
Gil as per Gollini.
Bacuna as per Amavi.
Tshibola as per Gollini (he has been loaned out).
Gardner as per Amavi.
Lyden unsure of how long he's got left on his contract, but needs 1st team game time, and is unlikely to get it with Villa. Loan/sell asap.
McCormack wanted on loan by Sunderland. I'd only sanction this, if a sale was written into the loan contract.Sell,sell,sell asap.
Elphick Supposed interest from a couple of clubs, then sell,sell,sell
Agbonlahor as I don't buy into giving this parasite any more second chances, sell or get some more concrete....see Richards
As for Steer and Bunn I'd get rid of both as soon as the season ends, if not before

Goalkeepers: Jed Steer, Mark Bunn, Sam Johnstone Gollini
Gollini and Steer to go.
I prefer Steer over Bunn just because Bunn is not that good.. but i think Bunn is good for the squad morale. Looks like a bubbly character and i havent seen too much of Steer to pick him over Bunn. Also Bunn is happy to be a number 2. Steer may want games.
Defenders: Alan Hutton, Richie de Laet, Micah Richards, James Bree, Tommy Elphick, John Terry, James Chester, Nathan Baker, Neil Taylor, Jordan Amavi, Aly Cissokho [11]
Micah Hutton Elphick Amavi Cissohko to go.
Aly is gone by all reports. Hutton said he wont be leaving. Amavi is going. Elphick should be going if we keep Samba. If Hutton stays.. maybe Bree can play in midfield?
Midfielders: Jedinak, Bacuna, Tshibola, Lansbury, Hourihane, Veretout, Bjarnason, Gardner, Lyden, Gil, Adomah, Green, Grealish, Whelan (probably) [14]
Bacuna Tshibola, veretout Gardner Gil should go.
Cant see Bacuna leaving. Tish is not liked much it seems. Veretout and Gil will go. Gardner will likely stay but i think we should flog him to Forest. Lyden on loan maybe.
Forwards: McCormack, Kodjia, Hogan, Agbonlahor, Hepburn-Murphy, Davis (6)
Just loan for Davis.
GKeepers...... get rid of Bunn & Steer, Gollini will be in the second season of his loan agreement so keep for the time being, and look elsewhere for a GK, as I don't rate Johnstone.
Defenders....... Get rid of Hutton, Richards,Elphick,Amavi and Cissokho. Don't sign Samba, and pay off Richards if nobody comes in for him.
Midfield.......If they don't want to stay, get rid of Gil and Vertout. Sell Gardner at any price. Loan out Tshibola,Lyden..Tell Bacuna, Adomah and Grealish to shape up or ship out. Hope Whelan is cheap and signed on a similar basis as Terry.
Forwards.....Sell or Pay off Agbonlahor. Warn McCormack as per Bacuna/Adomah/Grealish, to shape up or ship out. Give Davis and Hepburn-Murphy more game time.
So it's a case of selling/getting rid by any means,9 or 11 and sell 4 others if we get decent offers.So could effectively be 15 gone from the above list. We can live in hope eh?
-
I was under the impression that Sanchez had been sold,but from the retained list it seems not.
-
I see that we are one of the few teams not to have produced a retained/release list at present, yet all of the premier league sides from last season have.
Wonder why that is? -
Using rodders0223 list of player he'd like to see got rid of (see earlier post), the following savings per player could be made;
(I have used FM data for wages per year and loyalty bonuses, based on length of contract)
Bunn total wages till end of contract (TW) £ 910 Loyalty bonus (LB) £ 235k
Richards (TW) £ 5.2m (LB) £ 1.1m
Elphick (TW) £ 2.6m (LB) £ 350k
Cissokho (TW) £ 1.248m (LB) £ 525k
Gil (TW) £ 2.912m (LB) £ 650k
Gardner (TW) £ 4.056m (LB) £ 350k
Vertout (TW) £ 4.368m (LB) £ 725k
Gabby (TW) £ 2.86m (LB) £ 950k
Bacuna (TW) £ 3.9m (LB) £ 600k
Amavi (TW) £4.68m (LB) £ 900k
Sanchez (TW) £ 1.924m (LB) £ 925k
Kozak (TW) £ 1.3m (LB) £ 525k
Add to that, the money saved on reserve/academy players already gone, and you come up with;
£ 36.41m in wages saved
£ 7.9m in loyalty bonuses saved.
Before anyone laughs off the above figures, just remember the figures put out for how much the club lost in the last year.
On average paying each of them £ 3.5 million for their time.
God knows how much Learner spunked up the wall during his tenure based on figures like these eh?
-
Looks like the clearout may need to be of biblical proportions, as I reckon the wage bill alone may see us in breach of the FFP. As I've said on other Villa sites, quite a lot of the reserve and academy players are out of contract in the next month or so, and unfortunately I think this is where the cull will start.
Aside from that, I know Sanchez is going/gone, due to a clause in his loan contract, does anyone know if Cissokho has a similar clause?

With todays news that we have to sell to fund new transfers, it's just as well we have the deadwood to cut adrift and potentially cash in.
hypothetically speaking, if a club were to come in and offer £20m+ for Grealish, should we take it?
Yes I'd rip their arms off, cos

We came down with a punctured tyre.......we have spent this season taking off the tyre and repairing the tube......we should be back in the race next season.
Sorry mate, but we came down in a "British Leylandesque" pile of crap that was rusted to feck, had the wheels removed, up on bricks, having had the engine and gear box drop out.
We have spent a season replacing various parts on the aforementioned wreck, and its now back on the road, how it goes from now to the new season remains to be seen.
In answer to the opening question, my answer would be a clean slate till the first 45 minutes of the new season. If we are the same as this season, then get rid of Bruce, but I feel we need to get rid of a lot of the coaching team at Bodymoor Heath asap first.
