We need two CMs added. Kamara is out and no idea level he can perform at in the first few months back. In planning terms we are planning as if we don't have him for next season

Luiz, Tielemans, Barkley, Gallagher, McGinn that works as a group of CMs. Especially as a few of them can play Second Striker and one of the wide midfielders who become a narrow 10.

The other one is rumored to be Ndidi on a free based on comments from Dan Bardell and a few others.

So he's coming as a DM? A position he's excelled at that much Luton shipped 85 goals with him screening the back line. Fantastic.

An upgrade on Chambers(a player we couldn't give away) and Tim is seriously nothing to shout about. It's not going to be too difficult is it.

He doesn't upgrade our midfield, which is my original point.

Anyway I'm done discussing bringing him back. I've said my piece tbf.

He’s not the DM. He still can’t tackle for toffee. He will need a Kamara or an Ndidi next to him.

  3. Watch the Paul McGrath Podcast and you’ll see exactly why we want him. He’s basically a rotation option in the double pivot for Luiz……with significantly better numbers than any of our midfielders. In a significantly worse team.

If we had him Instead of Chambers last season we’d be in the final of the the Conference.

Oddly enough, my mates who support other clubs have been messaging me that they like it. One even said he liked the drop shadow. Genuine.

Shows the dichotomy between Villa fans and what others think.

You lie. As if any fan of any other team in the whole world would message you and say “you know what, I adore that drop shadow”.

Monchi? Emery? Vidigany messed up the translation so bin him off? **** off the big dogs in Sawiris or Edens? Both of them?!

Who would you like to see fired if we decide to sell Duran, but the highest bidder bids £20,000,000, so that's what we accept?

20m would indicate huge incompetence. As you’re implying the people we have at the club know what they’re doing so no chance he gets sold for “just” 20m no matter how desperate some posters are for us to sell the lad (who just to point out again is nearly 6 months younger than Louie Barry).

And that's what I think will happen.

If he gets sold for 20m someone at the club needs to be fired -  immediately. Unless we get Gallagher for a similar amount of course.

That's just a symptom of a wider issue though.

Emery's methods require full buy in and its becoming pretty apparent that Duran may not be willing to provide that.

Emery himself has very publicly recently spoken about his belief in Duran and that we have to be patient with young players. He spoke about how he speaks to him regularly and has his agent involved as well. Just seems like par the course with a young kid in foreign country with nothing other than football to keep him occupied.

So, if we have Emery’s own words from a few days ago being supportive of the lad maybe, just maybe, we as supporters should also be supportive.

Hopefully gets the extended game time he deserves today but no doubt some will turn into body language experts and will reference a pained look in his eyes or some other gibberish when it’s clear that the boy just wants to play as much as he can.

  8. Everyone should just stop stressing.

Unai has spoken in very paternal tones about Duran and has specifically referenced the need to be patient with this young man.

    So, let’s be patient.

If Unai has had enough at any stage, we will sell him and we will trouser a nice profit and move on.

Really no need to do a pile on or get upset because he’s fluttered his eyelashes at Chelsea on X.

  9. The club won’t be planning on sacrificing either the champions league or the league next year. The manager fully understands what’s needed and we have the summer to build the squad that’s needed to compete on multiple fronts.

    It’s Monchi’s time to shine.

Goodbye to Sanson (gone), Coutinho, Hause, Chambers, Donks, Timbo, Kessler-Hayden, Barry (loan maybe), Archer (again) and maybe to Digne and Carlos if we get good money. Hopefully we manage to retain Duran.

Shift all of that then there’s plenty of room to strengthen the squad where needed.

I mean, that's pretty much how Spurs' game vs Man City earlier in the season went: Got battered for 90 minutes but managed to score three goals from 4 shots on target and an xG of 0.4 for the whole game. Because Angeball is so high risk/reward they will go for it on Tuesday and the result will probably come down to how many chances City miss/Vicario saves/Van de Ven is able to sprint back and stop.

They won’t even fully go for it v city. And they have Skipp at left back and this is now the real Man city hunting down the league. A totally different proposition to what spurs faced at man city earlier this season.

But yes, of course they have a chance.

  11. It’s actually insane how quickly it’s gone from “Ange is the messiah” to people beginning to realise how stubborn he is and how badly he’s out of his depth tactically.

They have a punchers chance against City. It would basically need to be a similar game to us v Olympiakos in the first leg where absolutely everything would have to go for spurs and everything would have to go against Man City.

He's not going to replace the whole team so players will want to prove themselves.

Yes the atmosphere might be different but I think the idea the fans aren't fully in for it means they can't get anything from the game is mad to me.

Ange specifically said after the Chelsea game that you only have to look at Arsenal and Liverpool to see how drastically their squads changed within two years when speaking about their plans for the summer. The very clear - and incredibly naive - message to his players was that nearly all of them will be sold and replaced because they’re not good enough to play this mythical “Ange ball”. He’s more than likely to be sacked by the end of next season if he doesn’t very quickly realise  that you need more than one tactic in this league.

  13. Spurs will get absolutely battered. Anyone who watched them get ripped apart by Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle can see exactly what Man City, fighting to win the league, will do to them with Skipp at left back and with Ange utterly incapable of even flexing his sole tactic by 1 percent.

And then add on that at least 50 percent of their fans would be quite  happy for them to lose so that Arsenal can’t win the title.

  14. 1 hour ago, DCJonah said:

Yeah I don't get why people keep going on about the fans.

The players will want to win. The manager will want to win and any players that want to still be part of his plans next year will want to prove that.

It will make a difference because the players will sense the weird atmosphere. They might want to win but if/when they fall behind they certainly won’t feel the same push to get back in the game.

Also after Ange basically said he wants to replace the entire team over the next few years after Chelsea I very much doubt those players he didn’t buy are going to push themselves to get champions league football for him.

    Granted.

Is Bad Diaby better than Unproven Rogers, or Injured Ramsey or Buendia?

Because, if I had to pick, right now, he's not in that top 3.

Stats are sound. Performances have been dog, I'm not sure why we're defending £45m on a player that hasn't had one good 90 minutes yet.

Adjust and adapt. yes that's fine, but stop being so petulant, stop making terrible decisions. Do the basics right. No one is asking for 20 goals, they're asking for him to track back, work harder, make better passes. Each of the other three mentioned above manage it.

I want him to come good, but right now I'm struggling to see what he offers us.

    Not one good 90 minutes?

We have short memories. He was being lauded as a potential player of the season in October because of how well he started the season.

  16. Burnley were ok for the first half but utterly pathetic in the second half considering they had to win to have any chance of staying up.

Spurs will get absolutely battered by Man City as there is zero chance that Ange will adjust his tactics and Man City will need to win to maintain their title charge. Hopefully Arsenal beat Man Utd as then even the majority of spurs fans are going to want to lose v City otherwise they’ll be gifting Arsenal the title.

  17. It’s fairly obvious Tim has no meaningful future at VP otherwise he would have been asked to make some kind of meaningful contribution since Kamara’s injury. Seems like a good kid so hopefully he gets a good move and we get some money.

  18. This thread is ridiculous.
Either a club pays a huge premium or we have our potentially best striker in the league with us.

    • Haha 1
  19. He has gone MIA because of a number of factors the main one being that he is being asked to perform as a 6 because of the complete and utter lack of faith in Timbo during Tielemans absence.

We should see an upswing in both McGinn and Luiz’ performances if Tielemans comes back raring to go.

We then need to get competition for McGinn in the summer if PSR allows.
