Very disappointed Paul Lambert spends next to nothing gets a ManU player on loan when he could have doubled his spending for the season then only beats a team that cam close to winning the premiership by one goal. Starts Baker when every fan knows he is rubbish.

Great work by all the team players and backroom.staff. thought the team at annualised Liverpool's play and advised a strategy to nullify it. Well done the Villa including all those traveling fans.

I have been critical of Gabby in the way he has played and that when he played as captain he did not play well, I take it back great leadership and loved how you reduced the threat is Stevie Gerarad. Well done today.

I sit behind the dug out and DB did not look overweight to me when he swapped tops. May be I am judging him on my own skinny waist line. Is he my favourite Villa player no but while he wears claret and blue I will support him.

Great first half we looked like we were playing a lower league club.  Now I know why Gabbi and Andi continually get picked.  Thought Westwood played very well,  Having options in the midfield seems to have made him play better than ever.    Bent need match time but i would not want to replace any of our present forwards with him.  

When are we playing them?  i hope its soon while their still rubbish.

I live and work in Milton Keynes and was surprised how many of my work mates were going to the match tonight, a lot because the follow Man U but a lot who were not big football fans just going to see their local team play the big boys.  Those that were not Man U fans must have had a brilliant night.  I could hear the crowd from my house.

What a great night few thing beat a big team getting spanked by a little one.  Just hope it does not happen to us tomorrow.

It will be the same people complaining  who are not at the match supporting the team.

Man was a star, I hope he is not seriously hurt. Put a couple of lovely crosses into the box pity nobody on the end of them.

Thought it was a good game, hoped for a win second half of last season nearly every game I sat thinking please don't loose. Defence was solid midfield good. They played like a team not a load of individuals all chasing the ball.

The way Newcastle had to foul our players and their keepers time awaiting with the balloon makes me think they were concerned they were going to loose.

I know Gabby gets stick on here but I did not realise the officials don't like him either.

Delph reminded me of Ashley Young the way he is last man back on a corner.

Saw this thread and thought result Palace have made him manager. No it is a foreign club but good luck to him. He is no longer connected to this club and I harbour grudge.

I think a lot of the problem in defence last year was lack of experience, if Baker or Clark were to play with 3 experienced defenders I do not think they would be making those big mistakes as knowing you have capable support around you removes a lot of pressure and let's you get on with your job.

Regardless of the chance missed and the lack of goals, Gabby due to his pace remains an important element in the team at this moment in time.

I think that is the problem Gabby is not the greatest but he is the best we have at the moment. With Gabby in the team they won against a team with a good home record for last season.

I like Gabby for his love of AVFC. He does not seem to be playing as well as he used to.I did not see the stoke game only the mod highlights and they did not show enough of him to make an opnium. I thought at the Parma game he was one of the weakest players on the pitch, they may have been that it was a friendly and the responsibility of being captain.

If he is dropped who do we replace him with? On Saturday we needed his help in dropping back to assist in mid field. I am sure in the same situation Darren Bent would have scored, but would we have been in that situation without Gabby`s efforts in the midfield?

We did not have Sanchez at Stoke. This would mean playing with one striker. Is Andi good enough to play up front on his own?

Apart from the front two it looks as good as we have got. I would rather have Bent on than Gabby though.  Was very disappointed watch Gabby against Parma.  

I know their is a few on here that do not think Lambert knows what he is doing but he know more than me so if thats his choice hope they win. 

I thought it was a good game.  I have read all the hype on here about Grealish this was the first I have seen him play,  He stood out from the other players in a big way he looked really good.  I do not think we should start him though against Stoke they play a very physical game and I do not think that would be sensible for his debut start.

Two biggest cheers of the day were when Vlaar the Darren Bent came on.

I do not understand the logic of making Gabby captain in Vlaars absence, to me Delpth would be far better at this and the responsibility may reduce his tendency to dive in and pick up fouls.  Delpth seems to have awareness of where other players are. He is pointing at where he thinks they should be when responding to throw in and free kicks and generally seems to trying to control the field.  Gabby appears to be thinking too much about every thing else while captain and forgetting he is there primarily to score goals.  I really like  Gabby I love his loyalty to the club but I do not think he is captain material.

If he leaves for manu can we have Young back?

I like him. Yes there are better managers just like there are better players out there but unless Lerner finds lots more money or we gets old to someone very rich he is the Villa manager.  He sees the players all week and should no who his best team is. My only criticism is that he rarely makes substitutions until it's too late, 

The problem is that nobody else will pay him the sort of wage he's earning with us.....and he's on that for 2 more years!

Then surely it is better we use him as second keeper and let Steer gain experience for a season.

Send Steer out on loan 

He kept 10 clean sheets from 16 game at Middlesbrough last season so is still a half decent Keeper.  If the club is paying his wages they should try and get as much value as possible..  If Steer can be sent out on loan where he is number one keeper for a season it can only improve him making a better second keeper for next season.  

Shay made some howlers but he also made some amazing reflex saves and I thought he was good at controlling the back four, maybe this is nor as important now the captain plays CD.
