Signing Tyrone Mings is incredibly important to us.

His huge presence is felt on the pitch, in the dressing room and in the stands.

He is already becoming a talismanic figure for us.

Come on? Really? Yes he was good for a few games for us but he’s 26 and he’s played 89 professional matches. Think with your head not with your heart.

  2. I think if we got Cahill on a free and one other young CB with potential for about 15m that would do us, have 2 with experience with Cahill and Chester and 2 young CB’s to learn from them in Hause and +1 should be ok with that and if needed bring one more in January. Maybe Mings in January when he hasn’t played for Bournemouth and his forgotten about and his price is cheaper.

I don’t care about Mings anymore. Im just desperate to see us sign a couple of centre halves. Mings or no Mings.

I totally agree. Loved Mings last year, was great to watch a real leader. But the fact is he’s played 80 games in 8 years that’s not good enough for me he obviously struggles with injuries maybe to the way he plays, I would sign him if the price was right but if we go in for someone else I won’t mind I just want a decent centre half and il be happy, Mings or no Mings.

No Webster was at Ipswich 2016-18, Mings was at Ipswich 2012-15.

As @useless said above, Mings was a LB at Ipswich, and i believe Bournemouth bought him as a LB pretty much, he really only played consistently at CB at Villa.

Webster also looks like he started as a full back, not sure when he played mostly at CB, but he defo plays CB for Bristol.

Would be funny to have a 6ft 4 CB (Mings), and a 6ft 3 CB (Webster), then add that to Targett who is 6ft.......just Guilbert who is 5ft 8 and a half :)

then up front we will have Wesley (6ft 3) and El Ghazi (6ft 2).......if we arent rubbish we could be nasty from free kicks/corners next season.

Not sure el Ghazi is that tall tbh? When seen him play at villa park he looks about 5 10 and he’s definitely not very good in the air

to be fair he did well at Carlisle, but again in all fairness he needs to be performing at a higher level than that at 21?

I saw a couple of interviews with him, and i actually thought he came across a bit childish (or maybe im just old and kids are like that these days!), i think he needs to harden up and grow up a bit.

i dont think he's ready for the Prem, i think he needs another season on loan, preferably at a ball playing championship side to see what hes really made of, then we can make a decision.

Only issue is, he only has 12 months left on his contract.

I think he has what it takes to play in the Prem (in another 12-18 months), but i think its all down to his application as to whether he achieves it.

I agree but I do think the premier league is less physical than the championship so in a sense easier to bed in young players but although it is harder for management to trust young players and bed them in in such a intense and high stakes league so they are less likely to give them a chance, so rock and hard place.

Please...  EVERYONE knows  that Bristol City is at least 1.5 times the size of Brentford.  It's going to take AT LEAST a bid of £30 million before they'll talk to us...

I think it’s a ploy to get Mings, Bournemouth now scare themselves and think we are now looking elsewhere and accept our 12m offer. Easy. Well played Smith/Suso

Id be surprised if Newcastle players are allowed to leave before a manager is signed.

I wouldn’t be that’s Ashley all over. Cash in now and have no manager to annoy or fall out over. Then get in any old Tom dick or Harry and say here’s the team you’ve inherited

I'd really love the guy to sign, but even if he doesn't, he's just really a top bloke. *man crush intensifies*

Villa fans getting inventive now fair play.

  9. Yes let’s get this topic back on track. I think he’d be a good signing he was great for Sunderland for years, he was ok when he came to us last time, he has lots of premier league experience but his spell with the bluenoses is a slight blemish on his record and apart from his quite annoying voice he would be a good fit, it’s a yes from me.

freebies tend to be expensive...as ridiculous as it sounds. their agents tend to demand high wages and ridiculous signing on fees, so the amount it would end up costing us probably wouldn't be worth it

100% true. Look at Sanchez at United. On 500k a week because he was ‘free’ but then upsets the dressing room because ‘how come he’s on twice what I’m on boss’!? ‘Well he was free’? You can understand why it would upset certain players at United. Could do with out that starting here.

Personally I think we are getting ahead of ourselves talking about stadium expansion. We need to consolidate our position on the premier league for a couple of years before we even consider expanding

They didn't 6 months ago, they must do now, otherwise this would be a straightforward £6mil+extras deal.

Why? If he had done it in the premier League maybe but he didn’t. It’s probably more like they no he’s coming to us so let’s just sit it out and wait for the fans to get impatient and see how night they go. If they get 8mill for him they should take it imo as he is more fragile than when they brought him and he hasn’t really proved anything apart from being a success in the championship, again. Oh and don’t forget the discipline issue of stamping on people’s heads lol

We can find much, mych  better  players around in Europe than Hayden for the dcm role.

I disagree I think he would be a excellent addition, the right age, premier league experience, seems like the right type of personality that would fit in the squad, he’s also versatile as can play CDM or CB even RB, I’d be very very happy if we could pick him up and even better for a cheap deal with Ashley likely to accept a bid with no manager to fall out over it at the moment.

Arsène Wenger has described Hayden as a player whose key assets are concentration, intelligence and strength. Equally comfortable at centre-back or in central midfield, whilst having also previously featured at right-back and as a playmaker.

What we gotta remember is that Bournemouth are not only selling us their defender, but they are also strengthening their rival for survival next season.

And that has to be worth an extra 5-10mill on top of their asking price.

How? They obviously don’t believe he is good enough for the premier league so surely they would be hindering us?

Off topic but isn’t it nuts to think that like 20 odd years later, if someone said that they’d be rounded upon because people are so messed up that they could take it literally!

I think it was quite widely reported and frowned upon even back then tbf but yes there would be a field day now the mental health police and the whole lgbtq brigade on board too

I do think we shod have better nightime illumination, it's a very prominent landmark from the motorway. We should let people know it's the mighty Villa they are looking at.

LED lighting is cheap and doesn't waste a ton of electricity like traditional lighting.

I agree I always take great pride in asking people that come up the m6 if they have seen the mighty villa park they always say no

Mings was a left-back at Ipswich, it was his performances in that position that prompted Bournemouth to pay £8m for him. Even now he's played more as a left-back than a central defender in his career. It's only really with us that he's excelled as a centre-back.

This. We all loved Mings last year, but is he really worth 15m plus? Bournemouth brought him for 8m from the championship, they obviously didn’t think he was good enough for the premier league so shipped him out and yes he the did brilliantly for us but only again in the championship! Put his injury problems on top of this I just don’t see how or why we should play double what Bournemouth did just because he had a awesome 4 months in the championship  with us.

I understand your point but don't completely agree. The first big advantage we're going to (hopefully) see of having super rich owners is that we have money to spend without having to firstly establish ourselves in the league for a year or two first. I can't see Norwich or Sheff Utd being able to do this.

The rest is a mystery I guess but history suggests that club with rich owners spend more than those who don't have rich owners.

I think the big thing will be is that our owners won’t want to cream and profits off the top so all our income (TV, Tickets, league position ect) will be pumped straight back into the club. Some owners take away profit with a short to medium plan or view (i.e Mike Ashley) but hopefully with our owners they are here for the long run and have a long term vision to make the club profitable by making them a great established premier league club, so when the time comes to sell us be that in 3, 10 or 20 years we will be worth a lot more (i.e Roman Abramovich.

With regards to ex players the only one I would take back is James Milner. He would fit into the team well and has the right attitude, he has just won the champions league and various trophies with city, he has winning mentality, and would be good to have around the squad, he could easily sit the deep CM role or even cover at full back. I wouldn’t step foot in Villa Park if delph was in a villa shirt again.
