  1.

Repeat: All the figures were supplied by the government's own calculator.

    This?

    Edit:

If so, the results from that would suggest you have double counted the WTC.

Also I believe they only represent the tax credits for between now and the beginning of April, not for a full year.

I would prefer to see your numbers but as you are claiming that I massively understated just how generous the government are, I am more than satisfied with that.

You are quite correct, I did massively understate the generosity of the government; thanks for putting me right.

  2.

Clearly the single person living solely off the 15k is way better off.

But he/she doesn't have the luxury of a partner at home who makes no contribution. ;)

p.s. Bod above appears to have double counted the WTC.

Repeat: All the figures were supplied by the government's own calculator.

Based upon 1 partner earning £15300, the other earning nothing, with three kids 3, 7 and 10.

I merely multiplied the child benefit and added the numbers provided.

  3.

There is a lot of harsh things said about the present government and a lot of whining about them being only interested in the rich but despite all this, it seems that when you look at the figures of the amount of money they actually hand out to people with children on low incomes, it not only looks like socialism, it actually looks quite generous.

A couple with 3 children and an income of around £15k a year will be handed nearly £8k of tax-payers money in the form of working and child tax credits and child benefit.

So for doing the same job and even having the luxury of a partner at home who makes no contribution, the person with three children takes home 50% more than the childless person doing the same job.

    Seems very generous to me.

I think this post got lost on it's way to the Jokes thread ....

Here are the numbers from the government's own site:

    Husband working earns £15300

    Working tax credit                513

    Child tax credit(3 kids)       4787

    Child benefit                      2392

                                           £22992

  5. My name is Fred and I live in Sussex and have supported Villa for many years.

Don't manage to get to many home games these days, usually just Christmas, when I am up visiting relatives in Erdington.

So tend to read the debates on the Villa forums, to keep up to date and tuned in with the mood of the fans.
