  1. Bit disappointed that he hasn't shown a bit of loyalty and stayed on for one more season. Not entirely surprised though, football is all about money, plain and simple.

Can't blame him either, who else wouldn't be tempted by potentially £100k a week. Still think it will be a big risk for however decides to sign him. He had a great first season in the Premier League for us, but as PL said he had no injuries or suspensions (until the last game).

Just hope Villa stick to their guns and get silly money for him

We can then invest that money into the football club

This is a long building process where I guess there is unfortunately an inevitability that players will be sold along the way.

If the club benefits from that, helping to balance the books so we're not making a loss each year that makes the club stronger for the long term. As a supporter you don't want to hear that i know but it's a business at the end of the day.

The way we competed before paying big transfers and huge wages was not sustainable.

Anyway that's imo, it helps me to justify selling our best player and softening the blow!

    In Lambert we trust

  2. I wish him all the best next season and hope he lives up to all the expectations.

Heard he is a box to box midfielder who scores goals and can pick a pass.

Maybe they'll give him a go in the AM position?

  3. It always amazes me that people actually believe what is printed in the papers. Most of it is just lazy journalists writing BS

That's why I don't buy papers any more

Even the stuff reported on Sky etc I take with a large pinch of salt. Total pap most of it

Best place to get some info and a valid perspective is on this site or MOM site

  4. I'm expecting a finish between 8th & 10th with a few scalps taken along the way. Hopefully we'll beat Man Utd again at Villa Park, that would make me very happy :-)

We're still developing, not just the players but PL as well. He's done brilliant so far but is still learning tactically.

There is a lot to be optimistic about down the Villa at the moment. A work in progress as they say

  5. Gotta say that in my opinion out of Barry, Milner, Young & Downing, Barry was the best player.

No sour grapes but Young is over rated. He had some good games granted but never "world class"

Milner should have stayed for another season. I know he won the league with Man City but he was just starting to develop into a cracking midfield player. He was the darling at Villa and had the free role. Now he's just a utility player that will run his heart out for club and country.

Downing was just a typical modern day football mercenary. Good riddance, never did it enough for me.

Out of the four who had the biggest impact when they played for England?

Gareth Barry actually pulled that England midfield together. We managed to string two passes together with him in the side.

He was a good servant at the club and always gave 100%

  6. Always was a quality player, even at 17 he had a cool head on his shoulders.

Would be useful to have his experience in the squad but can't see us paying his current salary or him taking a massive pay cut.

  7. Why are most people on here thinking he will go? Lambert is the puppet master here, we get a good price and Lerner might have a say otherwise he plays for Villa or throws his dummy and looses all hope of playing in the world cup 2014, Lambert has proven that he will not sit back and be dictated to, Benteke has morals and his father has not brought up a spoilt brat. IMO he will be here this season.

Totally agree with that, the only reason he will leave is if someone offers us silly money.

  8. Hi

    My name is Vince

Choose the Villa when I was 7 'cause some older lads I looked up to were going to a Villa match with their claret and blue scarves tied around their wrists. I thought they looked so cool.

39 years later and I've brainwashed most of my neices and nephews into supprting the Villa. Taking my 3 kids now when I can and 2 youngest are Villa mad.

Seen a lot of the legends down Villa park over the years. Andy Gray, Jimmy Rimmer, Brian Little, Gary Shaw, Paul McGrath, Dwight Yorke and more.

First game was against Spurs on my 10th birthday in 1977. We'd just beat Everton in the league cup final and Villa Park was rocking. Remember the banner they carried around the pitch with "Aston Villa fans you are Fantastic!" then kicking footballs into the crowd. I was hooked

    UTV!
