  1. good win - midweek away game against a team battling relegation? never easy but good job well done.

great finish from gabby - good thing too cos carew would have throttled him i think if he had mucked it up!

i thought we lost control of the game a bit after we scored and couldnt get hold of the ball but other than collins non-shall-pass block hull didnt really create anything. the second half we turned the screw a bit and got the all important second goal which quite often eludes us so we were able to relax a bit, enjoy the rest of the game and really should have got more.

everybody played well i thought. carlos was a bit infuriating because several times he made good tackles or intercepts only to go running off with the ball either straight into touch or into an opposing player but thats not news.

nothing has really changed from what my criticisms are - because my criticisms are of the manager not the players. he still played the same XI, he still doesnt seem to want to use a proper right back, still doesnt use the bench to any real effect BUT when we win a game the manager has acheived the number one priority so well done martin - i still dont agree with how you do everything but you deserve credit because you have managed to pick up some very good points recently from a couple of potential banana skin matches.

i cant help feeling that the team, as a team, arent really clicking and very few tricks or fancy passes ever come off - but in some ways that merits even more praise for the players because they are grinding out these results now by sheer effort. sometimes (frequently) the football is pretty attritional to watch but they deserve everything they get at the moment because the effort they are putting in right now is bordering on the superhuman!

  2. i dont believe the "manyoo have no money" myth.

its kidology from fergie. they have seen what happened to chelsea in the past and now man city. united have always had the readies for the right player (ferdinand, rooney, berbatov, carrick, hargreaves)

if milner does move and fergie does want him, they will come in for him.

They do have to service more debt than the entire German League though, that would put a crap on anyones spending...

i'm aware of that, but they cant NOT afford to keep pushing on. if it is a disaster for liverpool to not get into the champions league, for united it would be melt-down catastrophic!

  4. This is without a doubt the strangest argument against O'Neill that keeps coming up. Before we played Chelsea having played most of the season with Cuellar at right back we had THE BEST DEFENCE IN THE LEAGUE. That is to say that our regular back 4 had been the best combination of defenders the league had seen this year. Maybe we should accept that he is infact a quite capable right back, albeit a defensive minded one.

Shockingly enough Carlos didn't play that game against Chelsea ( not that I'm blaming Young but it has to be mentioned )

its true that we had been defending well for most of the season, but that doesnt mean that there arent places to be improved upon does it? throwing young in when he hasnt played for months against the best team in the country is typical of mons tactical mastery. its the same approach that sees him throw youngsters on for the last ten minutes of games we are losing and expecting them to work miracles but wont let them have a run out at the end of games that are safely in the bag.

ask any number of england fans whether they think heskey should be in the england team and 95% will say no. but then how could anyone consider dropping him when we qualified so easily for the world cup with him in the team???? that is your argument.

  5. come on now drat - whats with all the balanced reasoning and common sense???

also, if there is more than one person complaining that it is all negative on villa talk, then surely it is not all negative is it? you are a collective of people who share the same "positive" view of things - even if it appears to be a minority one.

  6. At this stage of the season it does not matter how pretty the game is as long as we get the 3 points!

The amount of pressure on the team must be great ATM, with this to come back from a goal down away from home deserves a lot of praise.

I wont give a flying fcck if we play like a pub team for the remaining games as long as we get the points to propel us up the league as high as possible.

    spot on.

-but it actually applies to any given moment and is the attitude that has basically carried us through the second half of the season. (it doesnt mean we should dress up the performance from players and management alike to be anything other than what it was though either.)

  7. we need to beat 63 points - if we do will be our best haul since 92/93. there is still 12 points for grabs in a fantasy world we would win all 4 and finish with 70, only 4 points beind what we got in 92/93. this is also likely to be the first season since the premiership began that we have lost less than 10 games (if only we didnt draw so many! - MON needs to work on that next!)

i understand some of the frustration with the way we peter out of some games but we are still very much progressing and have a lot to look forward to. before MON took over we hadn't hit 60 points since 96/97 and our GD was always minimal. MON is rectifying this...lets have some faith..a good victory today and the fonz have given him something to think about for the remainder of the seaosn, not just for next year.

    i'm sorry i disagree.

we are not very much progressing at all. we have better players than we have had at any time since 93 and that is because mon has been given the means to buy them. thats all.

the same means that have been denied every manager between big ron and the current one. mon has bought some good, risk free, solid, proven premier league players and turned us into a solid no frills team.

that is not huge progress, its a decent return on the investment and the good quality of the players is showing up the fact that the manager doesnt know how to use them to their strengths.

mon never had the luxury of having quality players at his disposal and as a result doesnt know what to with them.

in the past mon carried average players by building a great team spirit, right now i have the impression that a collection of talented individuals are being forced to carry a manager who doesnt know how to use them.

  8. Hang on a minute, what the **** is this ref doing? Boeteng just had a shot from about 25 yards, that is a booking isn't it? I didn't think you were allowed to shoot until you had passed the ball from side to side a few times and from one side of the pitch to the other before putting in a shite over hit back post cross. Refs these days.

who is this A. Shot you speak of? surely not a villa player as i have not heard of him before.

  9. No idea up front. Just can't see us winning this. As said before this is a game where both sets of players know their season is over. Going through the motions.

well if i was the villa manager they would find out within seconds of walking into the dressing room at half time that the season isnt over. when we werent in the uefa cup it was the holy grail, now we have got there a couple of times we are playing like we deliberately dont want to qualify for it. yes martin, it will mean more games - AND MORE MONEY.

Some people dont know what theyre talking about...........

feel free to clarify at your leisure...

or do you feel that we are busting guts here?

Thanks for giving me the freedom to respond........We're doing ok going forward, should have had 2 penalties and Carew missed a sitter....thats 4 goals we should have already.

I was more worried about the way Portsmouth were breaking at will straight through the middle of the pitch and the way we werent picking up runners.

    you are right.

some people dont know what they are talking about...
