  1. One can't really imagine where will this go. In Israel most of us thought everything would be over by now, but Assad is still there.

If there's one thing I've realized from all the "Arab Springs" going around here - is that no one can predict what's going on or what will happen the day after tomorrow. Egypt is the best example, where a dictatorship was overthrown, only to be replaced with a Muslim-religious government and an too many border incidents, bringing suggestions that a conflict between Israel and Egypt is to happen sooner rather than later. The same fear applies with Syria. True, Assad is far from being a friend, but who knows who'll take his place?

The Syrian and Turkish armies are now trading mortar fire

    Click

The Turks have said they won't invoke Article 5 of the NATO Treaty over this, yet, but even if they do Cameron has cunningly ensured the UK can't fulfil its NATO obligations by sacking half of the armed forces in advance. Genius.

More seriously a conflict between Syria and Turkey has the potential to escalate into something huge and totally uncontrollable, but in a US election year its hard to imagine Washington allowing things to go that far.

  2. I got this one a couple of years ago and it's one of my favourites. It's not exactly this shirt (a bit less yellow and without the wonky stripe down the front) but I couldn't find a shot of exactly the shirt I have. Beitar Jerusalem:

    Adidas doing Beitar's shirt?

Yep. But the one in your pic is an old one. This season's shirt is this:

  3. I am shocked! Israeli football on VT!!!!!

    OK, let's see:

    1. Eden Ben Bassat has the potential to be a good striker but up to now - he had only one really good season, which is the 2010/11 one and this was in Hapoel Haifa. The equivalent of Hapoel Haifa in the Premier League is... uhh... Well, maybe Bolton or Fulham. He can succeed in the Bundeliga but he's yet to prove he's cut out for this level.

    2. BOF - Maccabi Haifa is our great white hope since they are the best managed club here. Their chairman does an incredible job and he alone made them the best in Israel. Since they are so well managed and their current manager is probably the nicest person in Israeli football, they are not really hated, beside their local rivalry with Hapoel Haifa. Let's say that in this year title race, I preferred them to win the title on Hapoel Tel Aviv's expense. They have :)

The Tel Aviv clubs heritage is much more significant. Maccabi Haifa won their first league title in 1983, when both Tel Aviv clubs had around 10 titles each at that time. Maccabi Tel Aviv is the most decorated club here with the largest fan base. Still, for 10-15 years they managed to win the league only once. You might be interested to know they ruled the league during the 90's with Avram Grant at the helm :).

Hapoel Tel Aviv is not that big, but still - a significant club here. They are the Man Utd here. They are not that successful but they are hated by everyone :) In the past they used to represent the political left wing (Hapoel means worker), so they used to have a lot of clashes with Beitar Jerusalem.

This was the coverage of 4 biggest club here. If you'd like, next time I will go over the rest of the nothingness we call "Ligat Ha Al" (which means - Premier League) :)

  4. Wow, love their badge.

    Beautiful design. :thumb:

Beitar Jeruslaem!!! They used to consider themselves as the representatives of the poor (in contrast to the teams from Tel Aviv, which supporters are a lot wealthier). I don't like them due to a couple of reasons:

    1. They are filthy rich now.

    2. Their "Ultras" are quite insane. Very right wing - oppose any chance of allowing an Arab player to play for the team.

Beside, they are too strong. I can't support a team that actually win trophies!

  5. I've got many:

    Galatasaray

    Israel

    Canada

    Brazil

    Milan

Milan GK (Short sleeved - Green)

    La Coruna

Juventus - the pink one from couple years back

    Inter Milan

Werder Bremen away from 93 or 94. Navy.

    Croatia

    Slavia Prague

and I'll need to review my collection to add more to this list. It's been a while since I checked it out.

There is only one HUGE problem. Due to the insane exchange rate of your damn Pound-Sterling and our Israeli Shekel (1 to 6 or something in that region) I find it impossible to lay my hands on an Aston Villa shirt. Yes, this is lame, I know, but 40-50 UK pounds way over my financial abilities at the time. It's 3 or 4 times more than we pay for shirts here (regardless of the fact that the teams here are crap).

That's it. Got it out of my system :(

  6. There should be more filters there:

    1. With/Without kids

    2. During 3rd to 6th month of pregnancy (give or take).

    3. Gay? Lesbo? Animal lover?

    4. Number of wives (applies to Muslims, mainly :) )

  7. Well, I didn't have the chance to comment up to this point and as this discussion is now on its 102nd page I will say only that - Bent is a good footballer. Still, splashing 18 or 24 Million on him is sheer stupidity. This is silly money that could be much better spent on great footballers who are not English and cost less. van der Vaart is the best lesson - Spurs got him for 8!

We could have bought a prolific goalscorer such as Miroslav Klose for about 3 or 4, for instance. We keep on looking for English players who cost way over their real value. With 18 Million we could have bought, I guess, the two leading strikers of Villarreal. I hate this!

  8. I wish the Heat will crash and burn! Manchester City of the NBA.

The NBA has a salay cap, there can't be a Man City of the NBA. (Just a group of players who're willing to sacrifice $$$ for titles).

True, but that does not matter. The fact they have 3 super stars who chose to play together in order to increase their chances to win the title disgusts me. Much like Milner who went to Man City "to win some silverware".

  9. I wish the Heat will crash and burn! Manchester City of the NBA.

I hope that Suns or Dallas will shock the world, but unless Bryant will retire tomorrow, this won't happen.

Still, since I am a Minnesota fan, that does not concern me. I just hope we won't finish last. Up The Timberwolves!

  10. Moore, Connery first. Well, first, because Moore was the first Bond I saw as I grew up in the 80's. More than that, I liked the fact that while these two were quite efficient as 007, they were full with sarcasm and despite being efficient killing machines, they still knew to enjoy life. The latter ones became too sensitive, too caring towards women and, in general, too grim for my taste. Craig almost never smiles. It's like he's going through some rough times at home or something, while Connery could see his lover covered in gold and still go on as nothing happened.

For me 007 is not just another secret agent. He is the slickest secret agent ever!

P.S. Loved Lazenby and I think "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" is one of the best Bond films ever made.

  11. Just wanted to inform that I became a dad for the 2nd time about 3 weeks ago. Named the boy "Alon" which has a meaning in Hebrew, but it's the closest I could get to "Aston"... Just don't tell the missus. If she'll know I voted for this name because of AVFC she'll ban me from... all sorts of stuff!!!

And cheers to all the rest of you :) There's nothing like catching another dreadful Steven Seagal during sunrise, trying to calm down the farting baby in your hands :)

  12. Maybe you can help me out here - is it true there are no other players in our squad but James Milner? For some strange reason, this is the only name coming up when Aston Villa is the subject of the discussion. It will be immensely difficult if he leaves, as we will be left with no players at all!!! Not to mention that our activity in the transfer market suggests we are under some sort of a trade embargo!

  13. First - I say - let's go for Hartlepool's James Brown!! Ohhh!!! I feel good!!!

Second, and a bit more on the serious side - we have a huge problem. Our scouting is crap. Even if we'll get the 30M, the chances we'll spend them on the right guy are slim. I see people calling for 20M+Ireland and I say - Do you really thing Ireland is worth 10M?! The prices for English players are an absurdity. A good scouting team could find us some relatively cheap players from the rest of Europe or Africa. But instead of doing that, we plash the money on overrated English players. I know that a team here, in Israel, managed to get a couple of players from Spain (played for relegated Valladolid) for less than 1M Euros. If so - I guess you could find some great talents there for 5-7-9M. You just have to look.

And just as Ireland isn't a 10M player, Milner is definitely not a 30M or even 20M pound player. This whole thing got out of hand.
