  1. Anybody know how Holman and Poulsen were linking up for AZ last season? Could be the thinking behind this. If they already have an understanding then it might just be a shrewd signing. Our left side was utter shite last season. Zog needs to be playing on the right cutting in or in the hole IMO. Hes not a typical 'get to the byline and whip it in' type of winger is he

  2. Just a question for all those championing a young up and coming manager... How long do you think they'd get if results didn't start wellbefore people on these boards start claiming we should have got somebody with more experience and that Lerner didn't know what he was doing?

The reason I ask is I assume you're all calling for said managers because of their reputation for playing decent footy, but with our squad that's not likely to wield results instantly (if at all) I'd love to see Guardiola trying to teach Collins and Dunne how to pass!!

So unless they canliterally change the majority of the playing squad, again not likely to happen, I dont think we'll see any real benefit in the first half of next season. So how long a period of grace do you think the likes of Poyet would enjoy before people start writing him off as not being up to the challenge of such a big club etc?

By the way I'm not pro or anti Poyet et al I'm just curious.

    Are you sure?

I'd like to think he would but what if we went and lost our first three games of the season against fairly easy opposition because his style, formation or tactics weren't working with the players?

A lot of people though, and still think, Houllier was sensible appointment yet his style failed and regardless of his health issue a number of people were calling for his head.

I guess my point is as Villa fans how do we define a sensible appointment? You might think Poyet is very sensible, the next guy might question what he's actually achieved at the top level and might be expecting failure. It seems to me that even when things are going well we're happy to have a moan, so what chance will any manager have who doesn't get off to a flying start?

Ive been saying the exact same thing for months mate. I think people are expecting an instant massive turnaround when we appoint a new manager. The reality is our squad isnt good enough and any manager coming in will struggle IMO.

A new manager with massive backing from the chairman is a different scenario though...

  3. Just noticed in the gossip columns that Norwich are hoping to sign Robert Snodgrass. Now, if we do get Lambert (and im warming more and more to the idea) then the first thing he can do is sign that lad up for us. Always rated him. Quality player.

Oh and bring Pilkington with him too. That would be a great start

  4. He was happily giving out autographs after the game on Sunday, although he wouldn't answer any direct questions (like most players - the exception being Carlos). He also looked incredibly cool; he even had a cocktail stick in his mouth, and as we know only the really cool cats can get away with that.

Makoun was at VP on Sunday?? Didnt realise that. I hope to God Randy said something along the lines of 'look, i dont care who the manager is next season your coming back here'

Whatever peoples opinions are of him as a player its just naive to think that we havent missed somebody of his experience and (IMO) blatant ability to play football this season

  5. No Mantis, ive said that a new manager needs at least 2 years, but given how shocking bad we have been this season and the fans feeling towards the manager then any sensible person would sack him now.

I was against sacking him 5 games ago because that would just have been disruptive in our survival chances.

None of this means i wanted him as manager though. I dont know why youre so determined to make out otherwise. It was a disaster from the start and we shouldnt even be in this situation talking about alex **** mcleish

  6. First off, sorry for the insult. Ive stated in the past that any manager needs time, is that not true? Doesnt mean that if Lerner sacked mcleish in Jan i would have been up in arms about it. Of course i wouldnt. Id be fookin delighted. Im hoping he goes now because its just not working. Im still adamant that the squad is shite and need to take part of the blame though.

That doesnt mean i want or ever wanted mcleish to be our manager

  7. Has anybody said they want him? Ever??
    Err, you? :P

Think McLeish was afraid to take Zog off due to the potential reaction of the fans ?
    What are you on about?

show me where i said that. The ignorance of some people here is mind blowing. Saying that the players must take some of the blame somehow equates to me wanting mcleish to remain in the job??

    Idiot.
